If you just want to watch your local news programs/stations you could buy a converter box to connect to your tv. It's free to watch the major networks(ABC, NBC, CBS..etc) with a converter box.
Occasionally I'll have buffering issues - but clearing my cache helps a lot. Also - there are TONS of popups with some of the hosting sites, but you get used to closing them down.
Sorry - just realized you wanted NEWS shows .... that might be harder to find unless it's a news/entertainment show (ie the Daily Show/Colbert Report type of show).
I use www.PlayOn.tv with my Wii (you can also use a Playstation, iPad, etc.) and it streams on my tv any show that is available online. The only thing we haven't been able to watch is college football. You can get a free trial and check their website for all the channels/stations they offer. I think I paid $20 for a 1-year subscription.
