I had my first pair for four years before they stopped holding a charge. I think DH’s first pair was similar. We’re both on our second pair now but haven’t had them very long yet.
I don’t really know prices of other brands to know how the value compares.
Yes, they are worth it. I waited WAY too long to get them. They pair instantly every time, sound amazing, charge in their own case. I wish they were less expensive, but that’s the only negative thing I have to say about them.

I just got my first pair in March, so I can’t speak to longevity, but I absolutely love them. Having them pair with my phone, watch, and iPad is seamless and the sound quality is great. I wear them while running and lifting weights and they’re comfortable and stay in perfectly (my last pair of cheap ones fell out constantly).
I've been using 2nd gen AirPods for almost three years, and I use them daily – they're still going strong! I got them for free when we bought a laptop, and I'm definitely planning to replace with my own money when these ones die. They're fantastic and sound so much better than my wired apple earbuds!

I have the airpods pro and love them. I use them most days, have had them for about 2 years and no issues. Washed H's case one, oops, and it still works not problem. I don't really know much about other brands, but I find them really comfortable and pair really easily.

Not if they won't stay in your ear. I was gifted a pair, and I cannot tell you how many times they'd pop out until one popped in a sewer grate. I'm very happy with my soundcore which stay in and are still going strong over a year later.
Ohhh, I love love love my AirPods. I fought them for a really long time but David talked H into getting them for me for Christmas. I use them every single day- on the exercise bike, listening to podcasts while cleaning the house, grocery shopping, watching TV when I don't want to disturb anyone else in the house. I love that I can answer phone calls while wearing them. If they broke today, I'd buy another pair right now.
eta: I use mine multiple times a day. I got them either Christmas of 2020 or 2021, I can't recall.
I've had my AirPods for...4 years now? Occasionally, it won't detect one in my ear so I can't get the noise cancellation to kick in. But for the most part, they're awesome. I also got a little cord that they slide into that I use during flights or working out just so I don't end up losing one. My right ear doesn't play nice with any ear buds.

I just got the AirPod pros about 2 months ago as a gift. I honestly didn’t ever think I’d like them. I have small ears and a lot of ear buds don’t fit/are uncomfortable. But I was intrigued because so many people seem to like them. I have been pleasantly surprised. I use them mostly for working out and wear them running and biking. I really didn’t think there was anyway they’d stay in doing those but they do. My old ear buds were such a big pain and battery was always dying mid run. I love always knowing how charged they are. I never have issues with connecting etc.
Oh and the noise cancellation is pretty great! I have a lot of auditory sensitivities and have found them so useful. We had a bunch of construction work going on right outside our house that was completely driving me crazy. I popped them in on full noise cancellation and the sound was gone.
Comfort wise they do bother me if I wear them for a while but honestly even the most comfortable earbuds eventually bother me.
I got dd the regular AirPods a few months ago and she likes them ok but would prefer the pros. I definitely think the pros are better for me as far as the fit/comfort. I may end up getting her a pair just for the noise cancellation.
I have a first gen pair that lasted 3-4 years before the charge diminished. Even then I could still use them for several hours. H bought be a pair of Gen 2 as a gift bc I used them so much.
I lost those and immediately went to buy another pair - I got the Gen 3s. They hold a charge just fine, but I have more issues connecting than I ever did with the other two pairs. I don’t know if I just have too many Apple devices vying for attention or if this pair is just wonky. Otherwise they’re great lol.
Oh, and I found the Gen 2 pair, but DD uses them now.

DS has the airpod 2nd generation which he got for christmas He had issues in April with one of them and apple replaced them. I am seriously considering getting the pros if I am going into the office. Someone was getting the ding from their email today but their email was also connected to their phone so all I could hear was ding, ding, ding, ding for almost 20 minutes.

I love my AirPods. I can’t believe I waited so long to get them. I don’t have the pro version, bc I like the way the others fit in my ears better. And I don’t like noise canceling - it just weirds me out, plus I se them for outdoor runs and walks and I need to hear what’s going on around me.
Anyway, my first pair lasted 2 years, then the mic stopped working. They were fine for listening, but I needed the mic feature. And of course they were just out of warranty/apple care so I couldn’t just replace them. I bought whatever the new version was (gen 3 maybe?) and I love them just as much as my originals. I am a heavy user of them. Multiple times a day, sometimes for multiple hours at a time and they hold up. Best earbuds I’ve ever owned.
I bought refurbished airpods pro (2nd gen I think) from Best Buy because I wasn't sure they'd be worth the price, but as far as I can tell they were good as new. And they are definitely worth it for the noise cancelation and call quality.

Just a fyi on the noise cancelling (in case anyone else wants to know) on the pros you don’t have to use the noise cancelling. There are 3 settings - active noise cancelling, transparent and no noise cancelling. You can easily switch between the 3 settings. I run and bike with mine and use the no noise cancelling. But I like having the option to have it for other situations or using transparent that just gets rid of some noises. I find noise cancelling a little weird at first but get used to it and like it when I need to block out annoying stuff. But yeah if somebody doesn’t like it maybe not worth the upgrade to them.

I actually didn’t like my AirPods as much as I love my Beats Fits Pro (also an Apple product.)
My AirPods were way more annoying to pair back and forth between my laptop and phone, and I had to go through the pairing process each time (but maybe my pair was just glitchy.) The Beats also fit my ears better, especially while working out, but of course fit is so personal.
(I don’t remember the noise cancelling being all that great. I like my Bose earbuds for that.)
I was one who said I'd never pay for something like that, but H and my brother got them for me as a birthday gift. I am obsessed. I love the noise canceling. I can't hear a damn thing when they are in, lol. I also like that they read texts or messages to me when I'm out on a walk.
Unfortunately Apple headphones don't work at all for me. That said, I love my Powerbeats Pro. They are around the same price point. I love that they have the rubber piece that goes around the ear. I've had mine for over a year and have never had one fall out. The sound quality is great as is the battery life.

I seem to have to replace it every 3 years but I think that’s a great RoI. I love them. Mine are currently dying but I’ve had them for 3 years now and the issue is that it just dies super quickly (2-3 days) vs how long it used to last before.
I love my AirPods. My original ones are still going strong after like 4 years. I tried the pros but they don’t stay in my ears whatsoever so they got returned.
