DD1 and I returned home from Philly this week. She had a bone marrow transplant on June 20th. After five weeks in the hospital and then roughly another month at the Ronald McDonald House we are back home. And she is thriving 🥰🥰🥰🥰 (During the transplant she was intubated for 4 days in the ICU).
We are so thankful and grateful to her bone marrow donor.
My 10yo’s volleyball team had their first scrimmage on Tuesday. They had one practice and none of them have ever played before. They got crushed by a team that clearly had some girls who play club. Afterwards, I asked her, “So? How do we like volleyball?” She responded, “I love it. And I’ll love it more when we crush that team at the end of the season.” I love her confidence.

DD asked to get some crochet supplies while we were at Hobby Lobby a few nights ago. Despite a bit of a rough start that night, she stuck with it, and has already amazed me with what she has crocheted so far (just rectangles and squares, but she's tried a couple different stitches). She brings me joy with her art.
The absolute excitement and joy of my dog running into the bedroom to jump on my bed to wake me up this morning. H got up early with her and walked her. They got back and ate and played. Some days I get up while they're on a walk or she won't come up and will wait until she hear me walking around. Other days, she decides it's time for everyone to get up and you can hear her race up the stairs, push open the bedroom door, jump on the bed, and give kisses. She did it this morning for the first time in over a week. Just always the best to have someone so excited to wake me up!
I found a paper fortune teller in ds’ backpack the other day that he had made and one of the questions was “do you like me?” and another was “do you like mangos?”.

DS is a sleep talker, if I happen to be awake for it I always strain to hear what he is saying because it is usually ridiculous. Last night he was saying "the wall fell down mommy!", his most famous line was when he was around 6 and sat straight up in bed and loudly demanded a sandwich.
Nothing beats the kids playing nicely together when the house is relatively clean and my tea is still hot. Doesn't happen often, but when it does it feels like all is right in the world.

DD took the bus when she was in kindergarten in ‘19/‘20. Her bus driver was a sweet older lady who DD loved. The last time I saw her was the day schools shut down; she was my last contact with the outside world, and she was very worried that she wasn’t going to make it through the coming weeks/months given her age and health. DD didn’t take the bus for the next 3 school years, but whenever I saw the bus driving through the neighborhood, it was a different driver, so I really had no idea if she hadn’t made it vs retired or just on a different route. DD is back on the bus this year in 4th grade. When the bus door opened up to pick up DD for the first time, before I saw who the driver was I heard her yell, “DD’s name! Look at you and how big you’ve gotten!”
I had no idea how happy I would be to see that she was okay and still remembered DD after all this time.
DD2’s first JV game is this Saturday. She’s so excited and has been practicing the cheers and dance for the last 2 hours. After dinner, we’re going to gel and spray her hair so we can get a nice, smooth ponytail down before then.

I'm excited to start my new, internal position at work in a couple weeks.
We're going on vacation in two weeks to the UP of MI and I'm looking forward to it, both because it's been so long since I had a vacation and also I've never gone there but always wanted to.
The weather this week has been amazing. Sunny, mild, cool breeze and blue skies.
We've had a tough summer but the last month has been great for DS. He got dumped by his friend at the beginning of summer and he spent this month going back and forth with 2 brothers in our neighborhood so I'm happy that's working out.
Also really glad school is starting next week. I took off Tuesday to drop him off at his new school (5th/6th is at intermediate) and then I'm going to clean the whole house. Wednesday I took off to go to the spa with a gift card.
There's a little free art gallery (like a little free library, but for art) in a nearby neighborhood. It's adorable, and I'm really enjoying following it on instagram.
I also visited it a couple of weeks ago, and got a keychain someone made. I want to make something for it myself, but I'm not sure what to make.

I am sitting in my recliner, my windows are open because it’s 66. I have a heavy blanket covering me, listening to Watch What Crappens and eating popcorn.
Next week it will be in the 90’s so I will be back to my cranky old ‘get off my lawn’ ass but this moment is my spark of joy.
For some reason DS loves watching Tiktok cooking videos, specifically Baked By Melissa, which is hilarious because she uses a ton of veggies and herbs and stuff he'd never touch. But he likes laying in bed with me every night and snuggling and watching a few of them. We might try to make one of her tie dyed cakes this weekend. It's nice sharing an interest together since I am not into Minecraft or snakes or any of the other stuff he likes, lol.
I've made an effort to connect in person with friends I hadn't seen in some time and to try to make some new friends over the past month. It has been really energizing and I in particular had such a lovely lunch with two friends I hadn't seen in person since before the pandemic. I love when you can just pick up with people and you remember all over again how much you love them.

My DD is hilarious and gives us a play by play when she is out and about. She went to a school event and made a game out of it ti keep herself entertained. She is giving the audience members names and talking for them. The last text
“Jerry just dozed off. His wife elbowed him.”
“Kid A is picking his nose. Mom just gagged. Dad laughed. Kid B started screaming “ewwwwwww.”

My bird feeders bring me so much joy. I love my lttle hummingbirds and when I look out and see bright goldfinches on the seed feeder, it makes me so happy!

Umm I love this and I think I'm going to make one for my neighborhood!

Congrats on your new job!
We did a UP day trip tour last Saturday (we live just under the bridge…call me a troll lol) and it was so relaxing and wonderful. We passed all three big lakes Huron, Michigan and visited Lake Superior in Grand Marais. It gave us such a peaceful refresh and we were so happy! Have a wonderful trip. 💙
I pulled up our favorite bakery website to place an online order. Front and center on their home page is "Mugshot Cookies" with jail bars over the photo and a "Welcome to Georgia" sign.
I got a new job . It took almost a year of looking outside of education (been a teacher for 23 years - some Full time, some part time, and some a mix of both). My new job is not teaching but does deal with continuing education for adults and analyzing all kinds of data, needs, results, etc - exactly the things I like. I can work mostly from home AND it's going to help pay these college years (two freshman this year). I am so excited for this new adventure.
My older kid tried out for a team a few weeks ago along with hundreds of others. Since we are kind of newbs, I did not realize there were only a handful of slots and apparently very long odds at placement. We found out yesterday that she made it! Now both my kids are doing competitive sports that they are passionate about (of course, not the same sport). I’m so excited for both of them to see what they can accomplish.
Also I wore a super cute pocketed skirt from www.svahausa.com (a STEM clothing company started by a WOC) yesterday, and I got tons of compliments on it, which was fun.

L was being so silly at breakfast, and we were just laughing, and eventually I told him that I love him and asked if he knew how much. He stretched his arms out big and then said "I love you too mama." And now I am melted into a puddle.

I was at a conference this week and chatting with my boss and some colleagues (who work for other companies but are trying to get approval through a program we run). My boss is nearing retirement age and we were joking about not letting him retire. I said maybe I'll leave before you do and they all yelled "No! You can't leave, the program wouldn't survive!" So it felt pretty good to feel valued. Especially as a woman in a very male dominated field.
Kid Wise - i got home last night and DD (rising senior) was so excited to tell me about a call she had with a college coach who she's been talking to (she wants to play D3 lacrosse). He basically offered her a spot on the team and said the admissions staff were very impressed with her transcript and the level of courses she had been taking. They would be willing to offer her $15-20k per year on merit scholarships. She has worked SO hard at school and took time off from her travel team to focus on classes so it was so good for her to feel rewarded for her efforts.
