I asked a friend/coworker if she wanted to take a fun class with me. We picked a date and I signed up this morning. Then I had a voice in my head thinking of this board and the fact I invited her, so is she expecting me to pay?
There is this super nice guy at my fencing club, who use to coach elsewhere. He has been helping/coaching me the past couple of weeks. But he isn’t a paid coach. I need to do something for him, but I don’t know what. I honestly get more from 10 minutes with him than the hour long class I do pay for.

My kids are back in school today, I'm so excited! H is going to the office, I'm so excited to just be alone all day, even if it is filled with meetings and work.
I woke up in a cranky mood this morning. I'm hoping I shake it, I'm in the office today so I might accidentally rip someone's face off for looking at me wrong. Can I blame perimenopause?
This is the first week of 2 days in office vs 1 and yesterday was the first day and I am SO tired this morning lol I know I’ll adjust, but for now, getting up early and doing all the things required to be in public two days in a row hurts.
Utility poles are being replaced in my neighborhood, which is great. I want strong, safe utility poles. They are working on the one right in front of my house this morning and the dogs are not amused. I keep checking my security camera, which is dumb because the utility pole is just barely out of it's view. I wanna watch!
I'm prefacing this by saying I'm a fed and we have no money for anything fun. September is our end of year, so we usually do a couple breakfasts/lunches by division. Simple stuff like bagels/coffee or pizza. Everyone in the division chips in and it's a nice way to get together for a few mins during our busy season.
But OMG the whining from the youngin's is ridiculous. I told them "hey you don't have to particpate." It's not mandatory.
Trying to figure out their currency is interesting. I've tried parking, money, and leaving early. They would rather leave a hour early than get money. Some asked for more telework days, but I told them that wasn't in my lane.
All that to say, it came up again during breakfast this morning. Lord, just stay at your cube people!
I've officially got a work trip to NOLA on the calendar at the end of November, with the bonus of a good friend that I work with going too. This is on top of an NYC trip with DD at the beginning of November, and weekend with friends to celebrate a 40th birthday (we're going blacksmithing, lol) in January, and then a second annual alone-together weekend with friends in February. It's so nice to have stuff to look forward to.
I'm basically wearing yoga pants and a t-shirt today in the office, but they're dressier versions so I look put together. Yay for professional-looking soft clothes.
rubytue , super helpful coaching buddy sounds like someone worth spending the time to bake for
Haha! I’m kind of thinking that. But OMG it’s going to be 100 this week, so I’m not sure I want to turn on the over. I might be able to tolerate 350 for a quick bread. But not 500 for a sourdough. LOL

YES! At this point I am blaming perimenopause for just about everything! DH and I did not speak for 16 hours because he was playing some video too loud (the voices in cartoons/anime are like nails on a chalkboard to me), and it woke me up. I just can't understand why he cannot be in quiet for more that 5 seconds. He is gone this morning, and I am loving my quiet house! I actually switched my cleaning lady to a day next week when I know I have to be out of the house, which meant I had to vacuum and do light cleaning today, in order to be alone.
I have had a hormone/sinus headache that has been hard to get rid of for three days. Love the "good" Sudafed. I got rid of it enough last night to meet a friend for a glass of wine and an app on her way home from work. We sat and talked for four hours. It was great!
You know that sort of smooth woven tech fabric that sort of looks like regular Chino that used to be used for hiking pants but now companies are making into work-appropriate slacks for men?
It's LOUD when you walk. Constant swish swoosh swish swoosh. This other department head on my floor at work wears them. I get church giggles whenever I notice him swish swooshing around.

Tell me more about the pants, please!
They're from Athleta during one of their sales, I can't remember which style though
I will say that they are on the swishy side like cville's coworker though, haha

Could you put it off a week or two until the weather is less miserable? I hear you on not wanting to heat up the oven this week. I picked up blackberries yesterday with the intent of making another attempt at the scone recipe from last week, but I'm definitely waiting until at least Friday to make them.

I need to know too! And do they have pockets?!?! I hate to not have pockets at work and they really shouldn't be as hard to find as they are!

DS came home from football practice yesterday and said apparently he does not have a "true" starting position. So that was a bummer. It almost sounds like they are doing first string A and B, second string A and B, etc., but I don't know how that will actually work in games. (Sounds like DS is first string B, if DH and I were correctly understanding what DS was describing.) He has a scrimmage today, so I guess we'll see how it goes.
I'm not sure if he was trying for O'Neal (mountain bike/motocross brand) or O'Neill (surf/beach brand)
But either way, he ended up with a shirt that says "O'Neil" and when you look at the listing on Amazon it is for like family reunions for people named O'Neil. Which we are definitely not.
He wears it regularly and I have never said a word. LOL.

I did the Personal Styling yesterday and had so much fun. I discovered that I can and should wear a smaller size in some things, in order to get a better fit, other things, not so much. I bought two dresses, two blouses, a sweater, a skirt, a knit pair of trousers and discovered that I'm a very different bra size and found a new bra. It was great and I'd do it again, especially as it was free for 2 hours!

Maybe I’m a youngin, but I would whine too (only privately to my work bestie) if someone told me I needed to chip in for pizza. The company seriously can’t buy $100 worth of pizza?
And I don’t know what you mean by money, but I would 100% take a day off over more money in most cases. Our HR person just did a survey of my team to gauge satisfaction and I was very direct that the number of hours I work is unacceptable and more money does not make it worthwhile.
Also do not care even a little about a prime parking spot.
Edit: I misread the fed part. But I’m still a little eye-rolly about being expected to chip in for pizza. It becomes an obligation as opposed to a perk.

Yeah, probably. Though I feel I’ll owe him more in another week 😂 We are both doing a tournament Saturday. He is at 10 and I’m at 2:30. If he sticks around a couches me for my event… for sure. I don’t know that he will though.
But, one thing I am doing is his wife runs the UD distributor for a European equipment manufacturer. And I need a new mask. So, I figure I’ll make an effort to buy from her. Even though their stuff is like twice the price. It’s supposed to be worth it. (Edit, and we are talking $90 vs $250, not $10 vs $20. But everything a hear says it worth it. And feisty Belgian is going to let me try it tomorrow. Hopefully I can get to the story on Friday).
STBX left the house at 6am on Friday and I haven't seen him since. His work vehicle is still here, so I'm assuming that he's away with the other woman, because his kids are in school this week. I feel some kind of way about this but I can't put my finger on it. It's been so nice and peaceful not having him here but it makes me so angry that he can just up and disappear for nearly a week without a care in the world, and it makes no real difference because even when he is here he isn't actively participating in the household. Every time I think I'm over the whole thing something else happens to get me all up in my feels. We had a hearing yesterday that was just for counsel to attend and I'm waiting for an update from my attorney. We are close to a settlement, but to get even this far I had to agree to give STBX my Peloton. I've had it for 14mths and he's never even sat on it, but he wanted it and was holding up negotiations until I agreed to give it to him. I'm just so over all of this and just want it to be done. The only good thing I have going for me right now is that in 4 weeks it will have been 1 year since I filed and if STBX is still being difficult I can request to go to hearing and have the judge issue a ruling. Keep your fingers crossed for me that this will all be over soon.
My MIL is a snow bird who lives in our area for the summer (traveling back to FL in late October). She lost her H of 40 years, my FIL in May. She’s doing really well, has always been independent (FIL traveled for work), has very healthy savings, and is in good health. We’ve noticed that she has consistently refused invitations from her retired neighbors (who she really likes) unless her son/DIL (also neighbors) also go. She does not host at all. Now, she’s bitter that she hasn’t been invited over to the same neighbor’s house for dinner. So, there is a little disconnect between “never being invited” from the reality of actually declining so much that they don’t ask anymore. The only plans that she will accept/make with us are for us to come to her house with food. Then she complains that “we don’t really want to be there” - while we are there. Most weekends in the summer, we go over and take her for a boat ride (she has a little boat in front of the house that BIL maintains) and she sold it today.
My DH sent me this text on his commute this morning and I can't stop laughing at it:
"Crazy roided white guy on my train grabbed some poor dude's phone, threw it on the ground, then shoved it through the door onto the tracks. Then we all had to just sit there as the train crawled 5mph to the next station. It was great."
The MBTA is such a shit show these days. I'm so glad I WFH.

ssmjlm, I agree with isabel. Are the bosses paying? Otherwise, yeah, I wouldn't want to pay for my own breakfast with colleagues and I would also feel like I had to, even if I was told it wasn't mandatory. But if the bosses are paying then there is less to complain about.
I'm taking a course right now about creating healthy work cultures and one of the primary takeaways this week in fostering engagement in the workplace is that if the basics aren't covered - like appropriate compensation packages, some autonomy over how/where they work (which I know, fed) - pizza, or anything "fun", falls flat and starts to feel inauthentic. I'm just reporting in from this week's readings, as I will take free bagels any day, but it might be a signal to look at what else feels like a misalignment to the team and gather some information about what would be more meaningful.
I have a zit on my chin that will not go away. I popped it and that usually means it clears up in a day or two. This one is sticking around.
TMI:
Also, I got a mirena back in May. So for I'm not impressed. My cycles are now 25 days long and even though the period is only 4 days long I'm getting lots of spotting in between. I think this is just a different kind of awful from the 8ish day periods with spotting in between on my 26-29 day cycles. Seriously body... get it together.
What I'm thinking this means is that my anti-seizure meds are screwing with my only viable option of BC. And that sucks.
