My once pleasant half mile walk to school with just DS (6) has now been replaced with an annoying battle between him and DD (4) about who gets to walk in front, who is going too fast/too slow, who can hold my hand, etc. A week into the school year and I'm so over it.
Ugh.
One idea that helps my kids when they squabble over something and have fixed preferences: figure out the preferred thing (in front, holding hands). separate the options (one holds hands while the other goes first). also switch off (one kid holds hands odd days, the other on even days.) It doesn't work for things with amorphous preferences (one kid wants this today, that tomorrow, etc)
I used to fancy myself a very good sudoku player, but I've been doing the NYT games lately, and I find their medium puzzle extremely challenging. Easy is a snap, but it's been five days, and I've yet to solve a medium. What's wrong with me??

That's a good idea, I'll try to set some sort of order. Main issue is that DD is generally irrational and just wants what her brother has at all times. She's...a lot lol.
We are crazy, we are adopting a Pug from Pug Hearts of Houston. We are approved, they have a big adoption event in October, we are going to go and come home with a dog.
We are narrowing down the search on their website. The descriptions are killing us, though.
Little fluffy is the sweetest little guy, Velcro Pug, just wants to sit in your lap. He’s not letting his mega-esophagus get him down LOL
Ruby is blah blah blah, the doctors are still working on figuring out her head tilt and balance issues…
We are looking for a male, age 1-4, no current health issues!, we have a few older ones on the list too.

Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I can't stop yawning today. I'm just so tired for some reason, I feel like I slept ok last night but I did stay up a little later than usual but not drastically later so I don't know what the deal is. I'm not a napper generally but I feel like I could take a nap right on my desk.
Dance class starts up this week for kid this week and she is SO EXCITED to get back at it. I love how much she enjoys dance - there were a few times over the years when I thought she was going to give it up but I'm so glad she's stuck with it. It makes for another evening out of the house which makes me pre-emptively tired because we're already out 2 other evenings for cheer and I want to participate in a book study at church but that will only overlap a few weeks until cheer ends but it starts to wear on me. Thankfully kid is old enough that I can just drop off at places and either go home or do other things until pick up time so it's not as much time just sitting around waiting.
I know I am way behind on this, but on a whim I tried avocado on toast. And I totally see why it became a thing, it's delicious. I guess I thought it would be sort of bland or weird? I'm using store-bought avocado cups that just have a little salt, pepper and lemon juice, and I've even gone way bougie and sprinkle some chia seeds and sliced almonds on top. Very tasty and filling, as snacks go.
Try a fried/poached egg when you have extra time. Yum!

Oh boy, we're in this right now too. DD2 (5 next month) seems to have hit a switch a few weeks ago where she is so much more demanding. She never was a big tantrum kid (much less than DD1) but lately it is crying over everything, yelling back at us, and also just being a LOT these days too. She was such a chill baby, which was the completed opposite of DD1.

mel, I'm getting two lasered this afternoon. On the ball of my right foot and the heel of my left. They have been so painful for months, I am hoping I get some relief soon. I hope yours feel better soon.
noodleoo, SAME. DS was a nightmare baby but has been an absolutely dream since toddlerhood. He's the chillest most go-with-the-flow kid imaginable. DD was a great baby but has been really hard since. She loses it over the smallest things and focuses on the negative most of the time. Its really draining.

Put red pepper flakes and more salt on your toast and be prepared to eat it for every single breakfast going forward. :-)
I eat avacado toast on sourdough about every morning. It doesn't feel too heavy in my stomach but also keeps me full.

Same. It's so hard! And the easy is so simple. I can't imagine the hard puzzle.

Yes, sourdough avocado toast is elite.
I love mine with a drizzle of hot honey, flaky salt and lemon. Or regular honey and chili flakes. It's also good with whipped cream cheese or ricotta as a base, sliced avocado and sliced HB egg. I do that for a higher protein breakfast.

I’m running so far behind today and I’m not sure why. Today was supposed to be my easy day!! I’m in my car at my next clients house, blasting my ac to dry my wet hair. Lol.
The kids have been in school a month and we’re on our fourth fundraiser. Omg. Leave me alone! I’m not counting what the teachers themselves have asked for, I happily provide that, but our PTAs are so woefully out of touch. I know the best way to change is to join but they’re so cliquey and elitist, I know it won’t work. My friend tried and they were so cruel to her, you’d think they were on the movie Mean Girls.
I’m making good strides in yoga so that’s nice! I’m still a woefully inept beginner but I’m less inept than usual!
Oh and between my therapist and my adhd coach, I’m finally getting ahead with work stuff, I’ve been behind for a year! It’s sucks I have to spends hundreds a month for the help but oh well.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

TR, I definitely do that but yes, I think that’s anxiety. I’ve done it since I was a kid, because i had this idea that nothing every happens exactly as you imagine it, so if I imagine the worst, that won’t happen. Thus was born a habit of planning out many and detailed variations on the worst.

I cannot escape content around this "influencer" who got married recently. I think my transition to old crone is complete, because instead of being like, squeee, she's an angel and this is the PEefeCT dAy, I just think the entire thing is totally obnoxious. They wanted it to be understated and approachable for their blue-collar families, so they shut down an entire street in Soho and she wore three Oscar de la Renta wedding gowns. Totally normal. www.elle.com/elleextra/events/a45025577/bridget-bahl-michael-chiodo-wedding/
ETA: The botox made me think of this because one of the TikToks I saw on this said her Botox went wrong before the wedding.

I’m watching Moana with Ds3 (4yo). We just saw the scene where the grandmas ghost comes to her on the boat and he said “she has a grandma ghost like meee ?!”. We talk about my moms but he doesn’t remember them at all so I’m a little shaken up.

My employers headquarters has a fantastic cafeteria. They paid for our breakfast and lunch during an on-site, and I had avocado toast with fried egg every day. I too was late to the game, but so excited. It also keeps me full for a long time, so I should try to make it at home. #basic
I'm jealous of those adopting, or contemplating adopting a new pet. Congratulations mofongo and mr. mofongo lol. DH and I can't figure out if we should try to introduce a new cat. I browse the shelter where we got our current cat (and his poor brother RIP), and this one sweet 2 year old all white female is just sitting there un-adopted. Our cat has a lot of energy, so I worry how they'd get along because she seems so docile, but I wonder if it's a sign she should live with us because no one's taken her home?
Finally, we had massive, record flooding last night. Lost power, and our generator is broken (of course!). Apparently I didn't understand DH when he said he couldn't find anyone to fix it, that it was *that* broken, rather than has some issues that need to be fixed...so now we're trying to move ocean water with a shovel. We're on a waitlist for Servpro, but probably see them at least tomorrow due to high demand. DH was working last night too, so I was trying to navigate all of this in the humid dark. He's ordered a new generator because we're watching more rain from the upcoming hurricane. Sorry to be so down, but 2023 can take a flying leap.

Oh the upside of losing power though...I got through a lot of my book, and should be able to finish tonight. I'm kind of kicking myself for not reading more this year. At this point I'll be happy if I read 20 books.

calamity, when I had my braces put on (by Fred Flintstone), I couldn't eat hardly anything even soft for like a week. I was probably a bit of a diva, but I remember drinking a lot of milk shakes. Hugs, braces stink.

I've been seeing this wedding all over social media too. I have no idea who this influencer is but, holy shit. I cannot even think about what this cost.
I don't like avocado toast. I've tried several combinations. I am alone.
It always looks like SO MUCH work for a piece of toast LOL I would eat it if someone else made it but I'm not doing all that myself.
Same. I had one I really liked at a coffee shop but I’m not doing all that! What made it good was the dressing drizzle, the spices, the super thin slices of radish and onion, the sprinkle of feta and the fancy bread. The same is true of other good sandwiches—high effort = high reward. I do a lot of cooking/baking but making fancy sandwiches and toasts at home is where I draw the line.
