I had a slightly rough start this morning. I woke up 10 minutes late so skipped putting on my makeup. I still left a few minutes late but not too terrible. Then I got in my car and remembered that I needed gas. When I got to work I went in the bathroom to put on my makeup (I only wear blush and mascara) and proceeded to to drop my blush on the floor and shatter it. At least all 3 bad things for the day have already happened so I can move on and try to have a better day.
My exH has tentatively agreed to a new custody agreement which gives me full custody and he gets no scheduled visitation, it would only be at my discretion. In exchange for this I agreed to take half of the actual amount of child support that he would owe me. My attorney has drafted the agreement and sent to his attorney for approval, so please keep your fingers crossed for me that this all goes through and I can at least be done with one of the matters that I'm paying my attorney for.
My once pleasant half mile walk to school with just DS (6) has now been replaced with an annoying battle between him and DD (4) about who gets to walk in front, who is going too fast/too slow, who can hold my hand, etc. A week into the school year and I'm so over it.
Truly random - why in the world did HBO think it was a good idea to rebrand to MAX? Until last week both me and DH thought MAX was the same as Cinemax and didn't realize they were different things or that MAX = HBO. Wasn't HBO a hugely successful brand? Why would they confuse us like this?
H is driving home today from Boulder where he stayed over the last two nights with friends. It’s a 13 hour drive. Does everyone have fully thought out plans (like, step by step down to conversations and phone calls) of what they’d do if he got in an accident along the way or is that anxiety? Lol

I hate the change! I also hate how it is now so full of reality shows (from Discovery/TLC/Food Network/ID etc) that I have zero interest in, it’s hard to find what’s new. They should kept HBO it’s own thing and then had a new channel to dump the 10 reality show channels on together. I’ve never watched any of those shows but it’s all what is suggested now because there are so many of them! No hate to reality show watchers but it’s a lot to scroll through.
Finally got rid of the last thing that was taking up space on my side of the garage, so my car is parked inside again! The person from BN picking it up has a smaller car that we probably could have gotten the dresser into with enough disassembly, but she also lives 5 minutes from me so when it was clear it was going to be a process to get it in, I offered to just load it into my small SUV and follow her to her house. WELL worth the 15 minutes to get it gone!
DD is home today with a lot of congestion and a headache, if she's still feeling crappy tomorrow I am 100% using it as an excuse for an extra telework day this week even though she's in HS and really doesn't need me home with her.
This evening is going to be annoying, and I already can't wait until it's over. DS has soccer pictures at 4:30 so I need to leave work early to go get him and bring him over there. They haven't received their jerseys yet (the league is a hot mess and we never get shirts until the first game), so I'll have to also facilitate getting him changed into that and into the new socks/shin guards in a short time window. Normally he'd get dressed at aftercare. After pictures we have a game at 5:15 at another field, so I'll need to hustle over there then. No idea why these 2 things were planned back to back. H and I are also working the food booth tonight because a parent from each team has to volunteer for every game, so we're splitting and each doing a half, because otherwise neither of us would even get to see DS play. I'm stupidly nervous about that and hope no one wants me to run a cash register or anything, because I actually never have lol. Please just make me fetch food or something.

Why do kids wait until one spouse leaves on a work trip to melt down?
L isn't feeling well. A was up until 10:30p last night. I had a work meeting at 5:30am and couldn't prep for it last night, so slept poorly and woke up at 4a to get prep work in.
I have an embarrassing confession. I have a couple of warts on the bottom of my right foot. I've been going to a dermatologist to have them removed and it's a slow, painful process (I tried OTC treatment and it didn't work). Yesterday, she lasered them and today my foot hurts so much when I walk. One wart is on the ball of my foot and any time I take a step, it's shooting pain throughout my foot. I almost took a sick day because I'm walking awkwardly to avoid putting too much pressure on my foot.
mel, I had that happen in the past and it hurt a LOT. I had a plantar wart on the ball of my foot and then one on my heel and both hurt to walk on! I hope you feel better soon!
It's my day to stay home with sick DS(7). He stopped barfing yesterday afternoon. Hopefully his fever broke during the night. Now we're on to the coughing & congestion part of the sickness. Poor kid.
I wasn't awake for the day at 3am like yesterday so I call that a win.
Going for more bloodwork this afternoon. The test is for Epstein Barr now that I read the paperwork. Then I look up the symptoms and I have zero. I give up. At least I'm not nauseous to the point of being couch bound today? I'm logged in, but told my boss I don't know how long I'll last.

I was browsing petfinder last night and saw a dog that looks exactly like my dog who passed in July, but is the same age and has some of the same medical issues as my current dog (blind with light and shadow perception, and hypothyroidism). It is not a good time to get another dog as we have travel plans in the next month, but it kind of seems like a sign. I also said that I wanted to get a big dog again, but this guy is pulling at my heartstrings. Maybe I'll check again when we're back from our trip and see if he's still available.
Epstein Barr can occasionally present with stomach issues so maybe they are covering their bases? It’s less common than the other symptoms but when my husband was having stomach problems they tested him for it.

I just got a call from my ob/gyn office that insurance flagged my rx for my birth control pill (that I take continuously to not get a period and to control hormonal changes that cause anxiety and rage throughout my cycle) because of other medications that I take, and that continue filling it I need a written document from my family doctor that she's talked to me about the risks of being on a combo pill with my other health issues (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, all of which are actually under control thanks to the other medications). But I don't know if my family dr. actually will want me on a combo pill, and if I have to go off of it, I'm going to be annoyed. I've been trying really hard the past few years to improve my overall health and would actually LOVE to be able to go off the OTHER medications and stay on the BCP, but I doubt that's going to be the outcome here...chances are I'm going to stop taking BCP and have to start taking some other type of anti-anxiety medication, which is going to be a fun trial and error process when this has been working well for years, and I'll have to deal with having a horrible period again going into perimenopause when I was hoping to just, not deal with that.

I know I am way behind on this, but on a whim I tried avocado on toast. And I totally see why it became a thing, it's delicious. I guess I thought it would be sort of bland or weird? I'm using store-bought avocado cups that just have a little salt, pepper and lemon juice, and I've even gone way bougie and sprinkle some chia seeds and sliced almonds on top. Very tasty and filling, as snacks go.
DS had an orthodontist appointment this morning. He's soooo close to the end of phase one! I just booked three appointments in 8 weeks to try and close up some gaps more quickly with power chains. Fingers crossed for braces off by Christmas!
DD was told last month that she still has ~6 months in braces to wrap up phase 2. Probably closer to the beginning of next year for her, but she's ready too!
I will be so glad to have fewer orthodontist appointments. The doctor and the staff are all great, it's really hard to schedule an appointment that doesn't require leaving school early/being late.

In a follow up to yesterday's random, I now have an interview scheduled! For this Thursday! After a slow start, they seem to be ready to move on interviewing people. And the email they sent to schedule it was a nice ego boost, "You're exemplary experience makes you an ideal candidate and we can't wait to discuss this position in more detail with you." Even if they don't hire me (I really hope they do), that was nice to hear!

It's good with everything bagel seasoning, too! My favorite lately has been avocado, egg, microgreens, and sliced tomato. It's a great filling breakfast!

My company is having layoffs today. The email came through from the CEO at 6:30am saying that the impacted would be notified by 9:30 eastern. So, I guess I'm not impacted which is good since I just go laid off 15 months ago! But it sucks to be at a company that has to do this. It makes the future feel shaky and I'm totally not a go with the flow type of gal.
My son is home. I think I mentioned he was medically discharged from boot camp. Totally sucks. But he's back at work now this week and will take an online class this semester and then off to the university next semester. I am glad that he's home. I'm glad to see him. But I hate that he wasn't able to finish what he set out to do.
candreco I also got rid of the final 3 big items that were taking up space in my living room and then garage. It was truly miraculous that H put the couch, recliner, and treadmill on Craigslist-Free and 2 families picked them up and took them away within 3 days of posting. I bought that couch when I was single and living in my former apartment. It was high quality but dated and well over-time to go. We bought DD a beautiful couch that really fits the space that will be delivered tomorrow.
It only cost me 5 bungee cords. Who picks up furniture with a car and no bungee cords?

I haven't made avocado toast in quite a while... my personal favorite is avocado, lemon juice, salt and togarashi seasoning. It has a pleasant kick. Definitely a filling breakfast!

I don't know what is happening in my office these last few weeks but it's either freezing or humid and everything we touch is damp. Ugh. I think I'm going to go buy a cardigan on my lunch because I'm just absolutely freezing, that is until the air pauses and I'm once again clammy. I just need this summer humidity to ship out of here, I'm so over it!
DD gets her braces on tomorrow. Does it hurt them right away? I should probably have some soft foods on hand?
Yes. It hurts right away. Have something like Advil on hand for the first 48 hours. And they will cut the skin in her mouth. They will give her wax, but for both me and my daughter, that wasn't useful (it tastes funny, dries your mouth out and doesn't really stay put). The brackets are also super sensitive to popping off during those first few days. Even things like pizza can be enough pressure to knock them off. Think of foods like soup, ice cream, etc.

DS2 just finished his treatment. Yes, she'll be sore and you should definitely have some soft foods for her. DS never wanted anything to eat for the first couple of hours after he got them on and/or adjusted, and only wanted mac and cheese or soup when he was hungry. She may be sore the next day as well.

I had a work event off site all day yesterday, so I'm playing catch up today. I am off on Friday because we're leaving for Tahoe and I'm thinking of taking a half day on Thursday as well so I can get some last minute things done. In my brain I know I need to buckle down and wrap stuff up here before I'm off for a week, but I am also slowly creeping into vacation mode where I don't want to do anything anymore.
DS1 started early morning swim training today so we were at the stadium for 5:30am! And DS2 finishes soccer training at 5pm in the evening so it is a long day

I do this for basically every possible scenario in life. Well, bad scenario. Lol, is that not normal?
