I'm supposed to be in the office today, but I accidentally sent my wfh alarm this morning instead of my wfo alarm, so I'm home. My boss and my grand-boss are in a conference all day, and we aren't even in the same office anyway, so they'll never know. I did have a cute outfit picked out though, so that's the only bummer
Date #2 last night was a success. We went out for Mexican and he is bilingual having grown up in PR, so when he talked to the waiter in Spanish it was super hot LOL
I started my day by dropping my blender jar at just the right angle to break off the blade... so that was a $150 mistake. I've dropped that thing dozens of times over the years and it's always been fine. I'm so mad at myself. I use my blender frequently so I can't even wait to replace it.

This morning was so hectic, dropping the kids off at their schools. There was a downed tree blocking the way, buses were turning down tiny residential streets, it was nuts. And after work, we have to divide and conquer the big kids' back to school nights. Two different schools, two different directions, same time. I don't think my mom ever went to my HS back to school nights, and I have no idea how she would do it with both me and my sister in high school at the same time. My dad doesn't do things like back to school night. Or like, leaving the house.

Our BTSNs are tonight too! Two schools, exact same time. I don't even remember my parents going to any BTSN? Anyway, I am salty. For younger DD, well, it's our second time around that rodeo and our 11th BTSN at that school so really, what are they going to tell us that we don't already know? The high school one is at least more informative bc she has new teachers every year. Plus there's the Eagles game. I just want to curl up in my bed.
Speaking of BTSN, I usually go while H stays home with the kids (DD1 is in 3rd so can't stay home alone, plus the 4 year old). H mentioned wanting to come, but we'd have to hire a babysitter for it and I'm being cheap and not wanting to spend $50 on it. Is that mean? I handle everything for the school anyway, but I feel kind of bad he wants to meet the teachers and stuff. We could switch but I really want to go too. I almost prefer when they did it virtually so we could both participate.

i forgot about the game! haha attendance will for sure be light. My mom taught at david's school for 29 years, in 3rd grade. I know how it goes! I'm sendin H there, and I'll go to the high schooler's one, bc I want to see her art room.

No kids allowed? I think the only thing school related kids don't go to are PTO meetings here.

I had the weirdest dream last night. My mom was in it, and I dreamt that she parked the car without me and then we couldn't find it in the parking garage. Then for some reason we were going to see a movie, but had to go to whole foods and she wanted me to drive but it was dark and I couldn't see? I woke up at one point (in real life) and when I went back to sleep the same dream continued. Bizarre.
I have an interview at the very end of my day and I'm already dreading how slooooow this day is going to go to get me there. I'm excited for the interview itself.
@sameoldstory, I’m a sucker for bilingual guys, too. Which is a not a good distraction at the moment.
I just need to make it through today and I can sleep in tomorrow. Not even much on my calendar today. And I’m traveling next week. I’m stressed about it already. 10-ish years ago, I was a road warrior, could leave my office 2 hours before a flight, go home, pack, and make my flight with time to spare. Now it’s days before and I’m stressed over things. I’m gone less than 72 hours. I can carryon for sure, logically, but I don’t want to. On the other hand, this is my first trip in forever with a layover. So… yes, I will. But but products! I need my products! Can I do 1 quart bag per item? Like one in my suitcase and 1 in my personal item? These are the things my brain goes to.

We definitely had kids at our BTS night. I was lucky that I could leave dd with A, but I wouldn’t judge anyone for bringing their kids!

They don't say you *can't* bring them, but they say it is for parents only and bringing kids is discouraged. I've never seen anyone with kids in previous years.

Well this doesn't help with saving money, but my neighbors hired a babysitter for BTSN and then went out to dinner with friends. The babysitter watched all 4 of their kids, so it might help to pair it with something fun to make the babysitter worth it.
But if it is more for saving money, then I would just go with the kids. Most kids are not there, but some bring them because they have no childcare and the school doesn't say anything about it.
Through the power of being in a very small community professionally we have deduced who was selected for the position. When questioned, I was assured it was not a previous employee. That was either a lie or the person's resume left off the job here previously.
There are several people that worked with them at their old job. They are known for liking a certain type of female and for harassment allegations that were of course never pursued as they jumped from job to job.

Really? Ours is full of kids.
Even our PTA meetings offer childcare. Easy way for the high school students to get service hours.

Same for us. Our district is careful to spread out the nights so there is no overlap which makes things easier - I think they do it for parking because some of our schools have to share parking lots and there is no way there would be enough space. We had to park down the street when we went to ours as it was.
I have a parent teacher conference this afternoon. My kid is in 4th grade and I've never had a parent teacher conference! According to my kid, the teacher has been threatening for weeks to tell the kids' parents at the conferences every little thing the kids do that angers the teacher. Like, I'm not going to sit there and listen to a laundry list of every time my kid does something wrong. I hope that's not what happens today. My kid said the teacher has also repeatedly threatened to take her out of the gifted program. I intend to discuss that with the teacher just to make sure that's what's actually happening. My kid already has anxiety and her perception of the teacher constantly threatening her isn't helping. DD is a people pleaser and other people's opinions of her matter quite a bit to her, which I also intend to discuss with the teacher this afternoon.
I'm tired and cranky. Feeling burnt out at work. I need to figure out how to get out of this mood slump. And I'm tired of listening to H cough. He's really putting his whole spirit into it.

Kids don't come to ours either! I attended both sessions at our K-2nd school last night and out of maybe 200 families, 2 had kids with them. At least half of the K parents had both there, but the 2nd grade parents mostly sent 1 parent. If he is expressing interest in going, I'd get the babysitter.
Headed to DPS to attempt to renew my license for the 3rd time. The system was down state wide on my first 2 attempts. Fingers crossed that this one is successful. The best part is that DPS is appointment-only but they don't notify you that the system is down so both times I've done hair & makeup and arranged my day around going to the DPS only to be turned away.
DS's BTSN was yesterday evening, I really love his teacher this year, and feeling really grateful that both kids seem to have teachers that they mesh well with. Our BTSNs (ES, MS, and HS) are always a mix of people bringing kids and not, that's nuts that bringing kids is actively discouraged.
This morning has been hectic with crappy traffic, a stop in one building before heading to another, and a bunch of time-sensitive crap to do once I finally got in front of my computer, but I think I'm just about through it all and can actually take a breath.
ETA: we have open house/block party before school starts to meet your teacher and drop off supplies and there's usually pizza or hot dogs, and then BTSN is a few weeks after school starts and focused on introducing classroom and grading policies, curriculum, etc.

LOL @ he’s really putting his whole spirit into it”!!!
I feel that way sometimes when my husband sneezes. Like, okay, we get it, you sneezed. Now stop!

Ours is also no kids (though there are a few who slip in).
My school did something new this year where they had each teacher do their spiel twice. It worked well if you have two kids so you could go to both, but I could also see it working well with two parents (one stays on the car/yard with kid and then swap).
If your school doesn’t do that, maybe suggest it for next year?

I relate to this, although I don't have a coughing H to add to the annoyance. My boss is off for the next two days and I have Monday off. I'm hoping it will help.
My nextdoor neighbors have contractors cutting metal with a spin saw directly outside my office window and my teeth hurt so bad from the sound. I think I'm going to have to pack up and go to the office for the first time in 6 months because its excruciating.

Our open house is Open House/ Back to School Picnic/ Community Gathering. They've got dinner for everyone and activities and crafts for kids. I feel like discouraging kids from attending is a really great way to discourage guardians from getting involved in the school.
Our kitchen remodel started Monday and the state of my house is so overwhelming because of it I can't sit downstairs.
noodleoo, do you have friends or neighbors that you could trade off childcare to go to Back to School night?
Our elementary does BTS for different grades on different nights, so a few years there we were able to send our kids to a neighbor's house whose kids were in a different grade. Then we did the same for them on their night.
