I know comparing isn't good, but all my friends are buying "adult" houses and it's really giving me some feelings lol. They're so big and gorgeous inside and something that I'm honestly not sure well ever be able to afford where we live. Ahhh anyways I mean I do live somewhere cool where one friends big gorgeous house is rural Virginia which I would never want. A second bathroom would be cool though lol.
Aldi has this cast iron bread baker in today’s ad and my goal today is to acquire it. It is one of my husband’s in office days I normally I reserve these days to get work done in the quiet but but clearly my bread needs this.
You never know what item is going to be popular so I feel like I need to try on the first day of the sale. It looks a lot like the Le Creuset one that’s $240 and I’ve had good luck with Aldi cast iron so I figure it’s worth some effort. It’s only $25! I wish the app had stock lists for my locations though!
Thanks to you I spent $165 at Aldi today. LOL I got the bread baker. (along with a lot of other stuff, obviously) Hope you found it too!
$165 at Aldi is like $200+ anywhere else so it’s okay!
I did find one! I decided to make the drive out to one of the biggest locations thinking they’d get more in stock and it was there! I was picturing having to drive from store to store like I have in the past so that was a relief.
This place is bad for my waistline. I texted DH that we should make chili tonight (hence my question about beans) in hopes he'd pick up (box) mix to make cornbread, but no such luck. I at least try to balance with one or two veggies, and repurpose the left overs the next day in something like mac n' cheese made with veggie pasta so it's only half not good for you, lol.
What's not good for you about chili? It's beans, meat and vegetables, that's all perfectly healthy! Or am I the one making chili wrong?
Right, that was my thought. Chili is something that I always feel good about and make a big batch so we have healthy leftovers for lunches. I do tend to top mine with lots of cheese and sour cream. And sometimes eat cornbread soaked in honey butter with it. LOL

I never make veggies with chili! What else are the tomatoes and chiles for if not nutrition?
I like it with beans so it’s more of a full meal but without is okay too. My husband lived in Texas before I knew him and he said people get really passionate about it there and learned how to make it without beans.

I guess to me (white) chicken chili is more healthy than cow meat chili. The way we make meat chili we put hamburger (it's not Hamburg sorry not sorry) and sometimes steak, with a couple different kinds of beans, and tomatos. I'm sure I'm forgetting something as DH makes it more than I do. I feel the hamburger meat is really not healthy as we often drain the grease (yuck). I also add a lot of sour cream and cheese, plus the corn bread if we have it. Chicken chili I like to add chic peas and then 1 - 2 other kinds of beans, and find that healthier because of the fiber and such. I should switch from sour cream to plain yogurt. Someone at work got me on to that years ago and I *almost* couldn't taste the difference.
I don't like deer meat, and we're not hunters so I can't weigh in on other kinds of meats flavor and healthiness so to speak.
I also don't understand the passion of not adding beans to chili. We had a cook off years ago at a job and this one (rather weird) dude was super passionate about the silly beans. What made me think of it now was watching Big Bang Theory and Sheldon getting mad as a native Texan, but I was hoping that was a joke, guess I was wrong.
ETA: I'm a wimp and don't like spicy chili after all that, lol.
I went to Costco yesterday and bought an unhinged amount of tator tots. I'd been having a craving for them, but $6.50 for a 2lb bag at the grocery store seemed unreasonable, and an 8lb bag for $10 seemed highly reasonable at the time.
I'm now looking up recipes that use tator tots, because there is no way we'll eat 8lbs of tots as side dishes. I'm thinking the egg and bacon breakfast bake seems like a reasonable contender.
I'm listening to "I'm glad my mom died" by Jeanette McCurdy and the first part is just too much. My mom was back in my teens and twenties too similar to Jeanette's mom and I'm yelling at the book. The emotional guilt. ugh.
DD got her braces off today! I can't wait to see her without them.

To combine your post with all the chili talk, I recently made a dish that was chili and your choice of meat on the bottom, a layer of cheese, topped with tator tots. It was freaking delicious and good comfort food.
I’m trying to get DS1 an appointment to get his permit at the DMV and it’s such a cluster. There are zero appointments so you have to go on this online waitlist. When an appointment opens up you gave 24 hours to confirm otherwise you are booted to the back of the waitlist. We got an email today but the appointments are all for a month and a half from now, mid day at a dmv over an hour away from us. He can’t miss an entire day of school to get his permit. Plus he has cross country every day but Sunday and no way can he miss that. I have no clue how long it might take to get a weekend appointment. I’m debating having us join AAA just to see if we can get an appointment with them faster, but I can’t imagine it’s that much easier. Why do things like this need to be so difficult?

I mean you could just add more types of beans and buy lower fat ground beef for regular tomato chili instead of getting into the weeds of the health benefits of hunting a deer, but you do you 😂
We always use Greek yogurt because sour cream isn't as easily available here, and I really don't notice any difference. I'm sure with the two side by side I'd be able to tell, but mixed in a burrito or chili it's basically the same.

CA? Just guessing from past experiences w/ DMV there. I’m in WI now & it is sooooo much easier to visit the dmv. I think after over a decade of being here, I no longer cringe at the thought of a trip there.
no MA. Biggest issue is I live right outside Boston so it’s a huge mess. If I felt like taking a trip to Nantucket the DMV there has plenty of openings! Lol

I am in a dramatic group text which has resulted in DD's scout leader offering to step down. I feel so uncomfortable ignoring it but also the issues between the leader and the rest of the troop have never involved me or DD and I don't want to insert myself. I'm tempted to send the Homer backing into a hedge gif but don't think they'd see the humor right now...

Sports parents are mean! We were at Wesley’s soccer game. It’s an indoor league and it’s so so not competitive. I mean it is, bc they keep score but it’s whatever is below rec league. Lol. Anyway, there’s an adorable little girl on Wesley’s team. She may not be adept as a soccer player but GIRL IS HAVING FUN. She’s always grinning from ear to ear, always happy, always tries. She’s adorable. She gets off the field at game end and her mother (who was yelling at her 4 year old that was drinking soda about the horrors of red dye, bc that will resonate with a 4 year old) anyway the mom says to this girl “I don’t pay to watch you barely try. You didn’t do hardly anything out there. We’re going to practice every single day bc I won’t pay for this if that’s how you’ll play”. I have never wanted to bitch slap another parent so hard in my entire life. That little girl went from elated to deflated in a nanosecond.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
Every time my H is away for work some random technology issue occurs. Last week my wireless mouse/keyboard was no longer working (I changed batteries, put the toggle in a different USB port, tried the mouse from his office using that toggle - nothing worked). The mouse pad on my laptop still worked, so I abandoned plugging into my docking station, but then I was stuck with the small laptop monitor instead of the double monitors I have in my office.
My treadmill usually acts up (it seems like) only when he's away. I'll be running on the treadmill using one of the saved sessions and it will suddenly stop the video feed and the counter at the top of the screen will freeze, yet the treadmill belt is still moving. Sometimes it's just buffering and after a few minutes it will resume and other times it never recovers. Why?
When he's been home, he's tried everything - he's an IT guy so you can imagine the set up we have with the wifi and signals and everything else that goes along with it (that I don't always understand).
Today, I'm sitting down in the family room w/ my laptop and I have the TV on. No matter what channel I have on, after 5 min it reverts back to the home screen (we use Roku). Why? WHY? W-H-Y?
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I just received a subpoena in the mail about an accident I witnessed in July involving a guy taking an unprotected turn on red hitting a police officer and breaking his leg.
It's fine except I just got a notice today that I am supposed to appear TOMORROW at 4pm downtown, 40 minutes away. WTAF. How is that even reasonable?
I'm a SAHM and DH is OOT, as usual. DD's school does not have bus service. So now I have to figure out how to get her home from school then to ballet plus drive home from fucking downtown during the worst time of day.

I check my mail about once a week (it’s in a locked mailbox in the complex) so I probably would have seen it after the fact.

I just recently bought tater tots too. It has been too long and they are so delicious. I wish I had known about the giant Costco bag!
@sameoldstory I don't think you have to apologize for posting about this HUGE thing going on in your life. You should be able to vent, and people here always have such good info and advice to share.

I’m going to take a stab in the dark with this but I’m pretty sure 99% of meat eaters that still eat relatively healthy aren’t hunters.

I could relate to a lot of the "OMG I need to manage my mom's emotions." The walking on eggshells, smoothing things over. It was a hard listen for me. But I'm thankful that at least I couldn't relate to the sexual stuff.

My source is the scamanda podcast and Michael Connelly books, so not entirely reliable, but a subpoena in the mail wouldn’t be properly served, would it? They have to give it to you in person to hold you accountable to come.

Have you considered using ground turkey breast? Add whatever beans you want. I only make turkey chili, it tastes identical to me.
