Did anyone else see the student loan PSA (tv commercial) w/Jane Lynch where she tells people not to "major in debt"? The ad advertises a .org website for students and parents to learn how to responsibly finance an education
I read a lot of articles about the mounting SL debt in this country but everyone seems to pay lip service to the issue. But a PSA like the ones they run for "this is your brain on drugs"? I guess folks are finally taking this issue seriously.

But I hope it doesnt make kids stop going to college for fear of SLs. If I did that I would be working at Sears and wouldnt have debt, but debt can be manageable. I only have $3500 left. (for me, my H has $60k) It is more about the path you follow. Dont rack up $100k in debt in a major in history of rock and roll with no practical application lined up.

There's a lot between going to college and working at Sears. Professional trades need to be stressed as a good option for kids - not everyone is cut out for college, and you can make good money being a plumber or an electrician. It really angers me that there is so much focus (from Obama on down) on college, rather than on post-high school education.
