I'm so glad it's Friday! DD has a meeting this afternoon with her Odyssey of the Mind team, their first of the school year. She isn't doing any other activities right now (in past years, she was taking a dance class and on the school volleyball team, but didn't want to do either of those things this year), so I'm glad that she will have something extracurricular to do.
DH and I are hoping to make it to our city's Oktoberfest this weekend. I would like to wear the Bavarian/Tyrolian hat I bought while we were on our trip to Germany/Austria/France last summer and eat some schnitzel.
DS is going to a friend's birthday party on Saturday night. He's in 8th grade, so tonight/tomorrow I'm going to remind him to make good choices and don't do something just because of peer pressure. At least the one good thing about him having a phone is that he can text me if he wants to come home (we'll set up a neutral thing for him to text that will signal something is going on and he wants to come home).

All the school corporations around us are on a 2 hour delay due to dense fog, but not us, so it was a slow drive to drop off the kids this AM.
I'm decorating for Halloween today. Last year I did it earlier in the month and 2 neighbor boys rang my doorbell to tell me "Our Dad says you put your decorations out too early." (I'm certain their Dad would die if he knew they did that, don't think it was meant for my ears). I asked them if I was early or was their Dad late and they left confused.
DD turns 11 in a couple weeks and given she is a huge Stranger Things fan I ordered her an 11 shirt. Girl will wear that thing 2x week all year likely.
I'm so glad it's Friday! There wasn't even anything exceptionally overwhelming going on this week but I am just tired. I actually went to sleep at 10 last night instead of my usual time of 11 and fell asleep almost right away which is unusual for me.
We have a busy weekend on tap - well kid has a busy weekend and I'm her ride LOL. Dance tonight, sideline cheer tomorrow and an out of town cheer comp on Sunday plus trying to get all the usual weekend stuff taken care of.
I stopped to get breakfast burritos this morning on my way to work and I'm putting that down as a solid choice to start my day - they were good!
Tonight we'll go to the local high school's homecoming parade and game, probably just for the first half since DS gets impatient and so do I, lol. Since H is not the HS principal anymore (he's curriculum director now), he can actually enjoy everything with us this year.
Tomorrow DS has a soccer game at 10:30. My in-laws offered to take DS with them afterwards for a sleepover with his cousin/my nephew. Twist my arm! We're going to do a little Oktoberfest celebration out on our boat afterwards with friends and grill sausages/pretzels and drink fall beers. Afterwards, our town's Oktoberfest is going on downtown so we'll probably hit that up, and go out for dinner. Excited for an entire kid free day/night. Sunday we have nothing going on, but it looks like it'll be nice out so hopefully we'll do something!
At the halfway point of DH's trip, just two and a half weeks to go, lolsob
DD is going on a friend's church retreat this weekend, so it's just DS and I. He gets his favorite takeout and homecooked dinners that DD isn't a huge fan of, picks what we watch during dinner, and I'm taking him to the Lego discovery center that recently opened near us. I'm really looking forward to some one on one time with him!

We met with the contractor for our addition last night- I cannot wait to get started! I need more space, and I’ll even get my sunroom in this project. It was a nice to have, but adding on to the kitchen and adding a larger main bedroom are the highest priorities
I’m off today, yay! Nothing exciting planned beyond running errands and enjoying the quiet.
I keep annoying myself by revisiting a Reddit thread about one of the musical versions of The Great Gatsby in production. The comments make me think there are some really crappy English teachers out there. The complainers think the released clips prove the musical misses the point of the book, but the book is so much more complex than that. Fitzgerald really does give moments of complicated happiness, and he makes you briefly root for miserable people. It’s ok if the musical leans in to those moments; the show doesn’t have to be entirely depressing to be true to the book.
I'm half day in office, getting bloodwork done at lunch, then WFH this afternoon. I wanted to come in and make sure everything was tidy for shutdown since we have to take our own trash out, etc.
I told my acting boss that even if they do pass something for Monday, I'm taking the day off. Schools are closed for students and I'm just going to spend the day with my kid. Maybe we'll hit up the cat cafe. She loves cats, but DH is allergic.

L woke up having one of those "hysterically crying but still asleep so can't calm down" fits around 12:30, and then at 6:30 when I had to go into his room because he started crying again he was totally out of his sleep sack and covers. WTF, baby Houdini?! I thought maybe he'd been cold and would be down to snuggle a bit more in our bed but nope, he wanted to be awake because toddler. I'll just be over here yawning through my day.
I am very angry at my job/boss. I woke up and had to handle another crisis at 5am. My boss's response to me telling him I was angry was to tell me to take a half day, so... I'm treating myself to good take out for lunch. I have a one on one with my boss Monday in which we'll need to discuss the root of my anger at what's been going on. It's probably better that I have a couple of days to cool down and put together some thoughts rather than impulsively throwing down first thing in the morning.
The weather has been lovely the last couple of days but it's raining again. Ophelia ruined last weekend. I just want to go for a nice, not-wet hike with my dogs on a lovely fall day. Why is that too much to ask??

I just saw that there are plans to make a stage version musical of the movie '13 Going On 30.' I would be interested in seeing that, but I would need to find some friends to go with me, as I don't think DH would have any interest, lol.

The new job actually seems to care about their employees. I have a meeting in a different town at 11 am. My boss suggested I work from home to make it easier for me. I am! This is such a nice change over the last couple of jobs.

Years ago I was about quarter into the Sex and the City Movie when I realized I should have gone with friends instead of DH. He was a good sport.
Has anyone done Rebecca's "Straight to the Core" program on Peloton? I'm almost done with week 3 of 4. Some of the sessions are completely ridiculous - like a couple of days ago one of the moves was to start on all fours and then kick your legs in the air and spin 180* on your hands - so you end up doing a kind-of handstand while you twist your legs/body around. It probably doesn't sound like that big of a deal but I was really annoyed, like, I don't need to do acrobatics here.

This is how I feel about Kristin McGee's Pilates classes. There's way too many things that I'm supposed to do lying down with my legs over my head and it's just comically not doable for me.
I'm really annoyed by these moves because there's only 3 Pilates instructors and Anna doesn't demo her moves well so I skip hers. Love Aditi but I still need more Pilates classes!

I've never done a RK class that I actually liked, too much complicated "choreography" and she just never stops talking. Crush Your Core w/ Emma for lyfe.

I've noticed this with her intermediate classes, especially, as compared to her beginner classes. (I don't think I've done an advanced class with her.) You can definitely tell she has a dance background!

This is Why I don't take RK classes. She has you doing these moves that I am working so hard to figure out WTF is going on that I don't even get to focus on the muscles.
If you are looking for a different core program Emmas is great and very straight forward!

Have you tried any Barre classes? I've taken only a couple of Pilates and a couple of Barre and haven't been able to really tell what the difference is between the two.
I am taking DS shopping this afternoon for a homecoming outfit and then tomorrow morning we are leaving for a bike race that will involve an overnight stay. He is 15 and never around anymore so I was looking forward to spending time with him.
Somehow it turned into bringing his girlfriend with us today, and bringing his best friend with us over the weekend. It's fine, but I'm kind of bummed at how the dynamic changed.

I had the weirdest dream and I can’t shake it. I’m the dream DS had a hole in his back and the food I am planning to make this weekend was coming out of it. The food was packed in the hole in layers, and then layers slowly started falling off. It was so disturbing, and I can’t get the image out of my mind 😫
Tonight starts Sukkot and I am not sure I will be ready. We have guests tonight and tomorrow night in our sukkah and I still have to shop, cook and finish decorating. I’m hoping the kids will help me with the last part 🤞🏻
I was supposed to start the day with pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds (just how everyone likes to kick off a Friday), but when I got there, they were like, this will cost $1K, and I did a triple take. It is on me because my doctor is in-network but she doesn't have this equipment in her office so she sent me to the other hospital system and I should have known that my insurance company was going to pitch a fit about it. I looked the tests up on my app, and it's supposed to only cost me $300 OOP at another hospital system (and even then, it's saying that's above what it should be under my plan). America man.
DS(7) and I have the day off. Teacher work day for certificated staff. I'm classified staff so I could work but then I need to find childcare so I didn't bother.
DS has a dr appt to get a referral for ADHD testing this morning. We already filled out the parent Vanderbilt and his teacher filled one out too (through his school). He's showing a lot more signs of it at home. Anyone with experience going through this process. Is the process more extensive through the medical field or is it much similar to the papers I filled out through the school?

It's raining here. I am so over the rain. I think DS is going to the football game tonight and then tomorrow he has a hockey game and starts work right after. I had an appointment to get the updated booster today, but CVS cancelled so now all three of us have appointments at Walgreens on Sunday. Fingers crossed they don't cancel.

I've created a little monster with our dog. DD had the idea of shoving a frozen (cooked) chicken finger into the Kong to keep him busy and it was actually incredible, he works on it for like 45 minutes non-stop. So yesterday morning he was doing his usual barking at the middle school kids waiting for the bus across the street, so I gave him the chicken finger Kong to shut him up. This morning I was getting out of the shower and heard him not barking, but yipping, like he does when he needs our attention. I came downstairs like wtf is wrong with you? He went and picked up the Kong and tossed it my way like gimme my chicken finger Kong! And so we have another morning routine I guess....
