Do you ever find that sections of your hair lose their curl? The right side of my head is really curly but the left side is only slightly wavy. My hair looks like the cut is uneven an it's to the point now that it looks weird to wear my hair styled curly. My hair is at my shoulder so it's pretty noticeable.
Has this ever happened to you before? Can it be fixed?
My hair is just weird--the outer layer is mostly just wavy & frizzy while the inner hair is curly to the point of ringlets. I almost never style it curly though...I either pull it back or straighten it. People who see my hair natural (air dried) are always shocked it's so curly so it's super rare I go out like that.
My hair is similar to CarolBrady's. I feel like there are some days when parts of my hair decided it wants to be wavy or flat, but I realize it's probably because I didn't encourage the curl when I was styling my hair.
My hair is like this underneath. All the hair closest to my neck is slightly wavy at best. I rarely wear my hair curly though just because I like being able to run my fingers through it, comb it, etc without it turning into a frizz ball. My hair is odd. When I was younger it was so straight that a professional perm (SHUT UP, it was the early 90's) wouldn't even curl it and then it started getting wavy, and now it's curly, who knows WTF it will be in 20 years.
Yes, and there is a reason for it in some cases If it is the "outer shell" of the hair, that is known as the canopy. Because that part of your hair is exposed to the elements a lot more (rain, UV exposure from the sun, etc.), that part of your hair damages more quickly.
My canopy is not as curly, but I have techniques that works to bring it "back to life." The underneath part is always super spirals and looks so pretty.
Fascinating!
The top 4-5" of my hair is almost straight, whereas the bottom and underneath is super curly.

My right side never seams as curly as the left side. I do not think that it seems uneven though. My hair is never ever the same each time I wash and dry it. I also part my hair 3/4 to the left, so I feel that is part of it.
I try and scrunch the right side more to help make it more curly.

What are your techniques? It's basically my entire left side (on top and underneath). I use a combo of leave-in conditioner, mousse and spray gel depending on the day and weather.
I used to blow it out a lot more often, but I've just gotten too lazy for it. Now I just use mousse and scrunch and air dry. Is there a better way to "promote the curl"?
I know there's that website for curly hair, but I don't feel like I really fit into any of the standard categories bc the texture is so different in different areas of my hair.
I think the the one thing that is consistent with curly hair is that you need to style it when WET, and then leave it alone until it's dry. The biggest mistake you can make is fiddling with it while it's drying...you'll only flatten the curl or make it frizzy.

Yeah, the curl is all over the place. Definitely not even. Plus, if I pull it into a ponytail for more than 10min, the hair on the outside starts to straighten, but the hair in the inner part stays curly. Fab.

Yes, the left side is not as curly as the right, and it's enough of a difference that if my hair is cut shorter than my shoulders, it looks like a crooked haircut when my hair is curly. My hairstylist says it's normal for one side to be curlier than the other.
I've never had issues with my 'canopy' unless I try to go more than 2 days without washing.

Different sections of my hair have different curl patterns. Outer layer is curl, with the upper back being super tight curls, the underneath sections are more relaxed curls/waves.
My stylist cuts each section a little differently so it all blends together.
My hair got a lot straighter after I gave birth. It's a lot easier to do Japanese on it now, and takes half the time it dd pre-baby. The Japanese also seems to last longer.

Mine has recently gotten straight around my neck. So occasionally it's noticeable if I pull the top back. I definitely want to figure out how to get that to curl again, because straightening it all is too much of a PITA.
My hair is exactly the way I wanted it in my teen years (loose curls, more brown than red), although now I find I miss the spirals and the vibrant color. We always want what we don't have!
