We just got back from our Philly trip today. I'm 99.8% sure that my 14 yo has mastitis. She told me yesterday she had a sore lump in her breast. We were about to leave for a day of tourist stuff in Philly so I gave her some Advil and hoped it might be resolved if she got her period. Today, it's larger, pink, and sore. Now she has a 99.7 temp. I'm so worried, b/c I got mastitis a TON when breastfeeding DS b/c he wouldn't eat and wouldn't take bottles due to reflux, and I know how bad it can be. I'm afraid she's going to start feeling flu-like and run a higher temp overnight before I can get her some antibiotics.
She has a doctor appt tomorrow at 9 am b/c I called as soon as we got home today, before she started running a temp.
So I guess she has to miss a whole day of school now right after missing 2 days for the trip. Ugh.
Has anyone else's KID ever had mastitis w/out breastfeeding? Or had it yourself w/out breastfeeding?
Update: so yes, it is an abscess! They are hoping antibiotics will work great, and we won’t need to have ot drained, which would be horrifying. No idea how she ended up getting an abscess. Luckily, she did great overnight, and has no fever today. I was really worried she was going to wake up miserable, with 103 temp. That did not happen. But it was definitely still sore, red, and very visible.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

Oh no! How did she do overnight? I only had mastitis once and it was awful. I’m glad she’s going in early. I felt so much improved with just an hour of antibiotics in me and I hope she’s the same!
I'm glad you have an appointment. I wouldn't guess mastitis in a young teen who isn't lactating, but I agree it could be an abscess. I hope you have answers and meds to help her feel better soon. She must be so anxious in addition to feeling terrible.
