I'm finally starting to feel better. The last two days I've been down and out with a nasty cold. It was messing with my breathing and my oxygen levels kept dropping, so I'm glad I worked from home instead of going to the office, even though it was supposed to be our required quarterly in office week. Trying to get past the guilt of that. I feel like I left my work wife hanging since she and I plan and manage all the in office events during these weeks.
This weekend DH and I might make a quick trip to NYC to see his aunt. He checks in on her and helps take care of her since she's older, widowed, and has no kids. We haven't been down at all since the spring since life was so crazy this summer. The weather looks beautiful at least, so we'll just walk around outside and explore with no real plans while we're there.
And I just have to share a picture of the Halloween costume that the girls wore to school today. For trick or treat they're wearing big inflatable tube guy costumes, but today was wear your costume to school day for spirit week and inflatables were banned by the principal. (Totally understandable, they're obnoxious). So we finally got to put together the costume that all identical twins have to do at some point... The twins from The Shining. Last night they even got DS in on it for a photo as Danny. And then this morning they stood in the hallway outside all the bedrooms to freak us all out as we each woke up. We're all having way too much fun with it, and they haven't even seen the movie! I just showed them a quick clip of the "play with us" part so they knew the context. They're so excited to creep people out at school.
This week was good on my end. However, H slipped in the shower and cracked a rib on Wednesday. He's in a lot of pain when he's not on Vicodin. However, the doctor said there is not much he can do at this point but medicate and avoid straining his injury. So...that's us.
This weekend, we're going to a Halloween-themed concert. D's are each having friends sleep over tomorrow night. A few of my girlfriends and I are doing what is likely our last mountain bike ride before snow hits on Sunday.
The Ds have to clean their rooms before friends come on Saturday. They claim I'm always nagging them to clean them, but until they actually put things away during the week, their rooms will need cleaning on weekends.
twinmomma, I hope you get some quality time in NYC with your H's aunt and enjoy the city!
We had a great week in the mountains with the kids. Great weather, too much food.
However, now I am trying to pull my house together for a Halloween party for the neighborhood trick or treating. I've go a full workday, plus I need to clean all 3 bathrooms (mine seems to be the stop every has to take a bathroom break), make my chili, put up a few decorations, and blow leaves off the porch. Dh needs to clean the garage where we will have the food set up since the mess is all his.
Saturday, there are a few fall events to attend, but it will depend on the weather and mood. Dh and I may go out to dinner.
Sunday is supposed to be rainy and cold, but I really need Dh to go hunting and get out of my house. I want to watch scary shows and make a big lasagna with a glass of wine. Alone. I've had no alone time and it is starting to show.
twinmomma, your girls are adorable (and creepy, as intended)! And (I totally zoomed in on their faces..) right on the cusp of teenagers, which is even more terrifying.
We have a Halloween party tonight. This weekend I’m hoping is relatively calm. DD is having a friend spend the night, so tomorrow morning we will get everyone donuts and have a quiet day. I want to work on a baby quilt for a coworker. That’s about it for us.
Yet another busy weekend. DD has a performance, DS has two soccer games and a team party. Sunday she's got another performance (with an arrival time of 7:30am! WAH), and then we get to hand both kids over to our friends for a birthday party, so we'll finally have a bit of down time.
And we have to figure out the dog for the weekend. He seems to be slowing down on the head shaking, so we're going to try taking the hood and gauze off today and hope that he can handle it. Either way, it's going to involve a lot of planning.
The emergency vet was SO pissed that our vet treated his ear infection, but at the same time, I don't think he understood the extent of his ear infection. He was almost 100% done being groomed when he got chopped, so when the emergency vet saw him, the ears had JUST been cleaned. Our vet said that waiting two weeks could have caused long-term issues. So damned if we do, damned if we don't.

It's so wild how old they look when they don't have their glasses on! Cusp of teenager-hood is most definitely the scariest part of all this!

We have nothing planned this weekend and I'm excited about it. I haven't seen my parents in a couple of weeks so we may go see them. We need to carve pumpkins and I want to do some decluttering.
My family said goodbye to my Dad with the perfect service. A family friend, who is also a pastor, delivered the eulogy and he did a great job capturing my Dad's spirit. Then my Dad received full military honors at the local military cemetery. Now I am back to work and trying my hardest to get back into a somewhat normal routine. Last night DD and I went to belt testing for taekwondo. We did pretty well considering that we hadn't practiced in 2 weeks. I started crying during the belt ceremony because it was the first one that my Dad missed. But my friends surrounded me with hugs and kind words. It felt so good to do something with my mind and body after being so occupied with my Dad. This evening we are taking the kids to trunk or treat at taekwondo. My mom will meet us there. Tomorrow I have a therapy appointment in the morning and then I need to find outfits for family pictures next week. On Sunday, I plan on working for a bit to catch up with what I missed over the past few weeks.
My dad has his 2nd knee surgery today. I see the acupuncturist in an hour. DD had practice and she is going to leave 30 minutes to go to the carnival at school. Entry is $5 per family but I feel odd chaperoning my 7th grader. I don't really know anyone either so I guess I will just find a spot to sit and wait.
Big plan over the weekend is to rearrange the living room furniture. The neighbors across the street cut all their bushes down and now sit out on the porch and stare into our living room window and it creeps me out.

Same boat over here.. probably why I noticed it with your girls! Every so often I look at DD and wonder where my little baby/toddler/preschooler/big kid went.
Crazy start to the day with DD2 being a pill. Got home and realized she forgot her water bottle. Normally I’d say she could suck it up but she has soccer - 80° out and warmer on turf. So I dropped it off on my way to work. DH is mad that I did. 🤷♀️
Crazy day at work led to me leaving 20 mins late for pick up. DD1 is going to a friend’s house with a few kids to celebrate a birthday. They’re new friends from the new school and I’m thrilled for her but trying to play it cool.
Dd2 is heading to a Halloween party with her soccer buddies. Maybe DH and I will do something while they’re busy. I’d love to go for a long walk and catch up, but he won’t want to.
DH was inflexible so I didn’t get my weekend away. I might plan a girls weekend after Thanksgiving since there will be some fun holiday things to do in the beach area.
Tomorrow DD2 is playing soccer late morning, and I might like to go to the beach since it’s going to be 80. Then she’s playing again Sunday late morning. Both games are local so that’s great.
Next weekend DH and I are going to the beach house and our old nanny is staying with the kids. Dd2 now has the potential of 3 soccer games next Saturday. DD1 hates soccer. She doesn’t know yet. Sorry!! 🤷♀️
As a random update... DD's done about 2 weeks of Intuniv (ADHD med) and DH and I agree that even if this is the best things get with DD, it is amazing. We were both worried about side effects and it kind of eliminating or tampering down some of the best parts that make her her.. But so far so good.
Aside from some sleepiness when she first started it, we've had no side effects.
We've had *ONE* screaming meltdown, that in reality, was probably amplified by me/DH and could have been prevented with better planning on our end. (DH and I are last minute packers - that doesn't work well when we need to get out of the house by 7am with kids - if we'd gotten everything ready the night before, we wouldn't have had the stressful scramble that set her off)
We are flying back from Hawaii…boo. We should get to our house at 11 pm, best case scenario. Then DH and DD need to leave at 6 am our time/3 am Hawaii time for her softball tournament - 3 back to back games. She’s missing her flag football playoff tonight. We have two soccer games tomorrow for the older boys, then Sunday is a baseball game and basketball practice for DS1, and more softball tournament for DD.
I’m really regretting my planning - I think we should have gone on our trip Monday - this Sunday instead of last Saturday through today. Then we would have done the sports, then rest, rather than the other way around. Oh well, I’ll remember that for the next time we do a trip like this. Next week is going to be insanely busy and sucky in terms of both work and life stuff.
I’m going to give DS3 the motion sickness med shortly, so fingers crossed there’s no puking on the drive home 😬
ETA - no DS3 puking after the flight home - woohoo!
