yes, my mom and maternal aunt both had it. so, i figured it was time. if it turns out negative well then im in same boat as everyone else. if its postive well then i can make some choices that might prevent me from getting it.
the appointment goes over your WHOLE family history...aunts uncles cousins...etc then they explain about what the test does then they draw your blood and review what the results mean and what we do from there. i believe it takes 5-6 weeks for results.
lol...yeah me too...but if not we/i will do something to lower my risk.
This is something I'm thinking about too and I'm sure I would get a Prophylactic mastectomy. I have talked to my Dr about it and he agrees but I have to get the test before and will consider it after I'm 40.
My mom had breast cancer, 3 of my aunts and 3 of my cousins had it too. The youngest had it at 43 so that's what I will think about it in about 10 years.

My mother and maternal grandmother both had breast cancer. This test is something I am considering as well so I am definitely curious as to the process and how it goes so I would love to her your feedback.

I did it but mine was a mouth wash I swished then spit in a tube. Mine was negative and so was my moms. My aunt was positive though. My moms ended up being a fluke due to lifestyle. It was reassuring having it done and my insurance covered it.
I come from a family of 4 girls....2 of us are doing it and the other 2 want nothing to do with it. I guess it just depends on your attitude and knowledge.
I just wish my mom had done it before she died because if she was negative I wouldnt have to be doing this!

Good luck...
Just curious what choices you can make to help prevent it? I know there's a million theories, but I'm really interested.

Good luck Mags. Ill be thinking of you! Very smart of you to get prepared or just be able to rule it out. Feel free to pm me if you ever want to talk or be distracted! My own grandmother had it and survived. Early knowledge can make a difference. Good for you for not waiting!!
I'm surprised to hear it's covered by your insurance. Does a strong family history cause it to be covered?
When I talked to my doctor about it, she was all like, "It's really expensive and it would be all out of pocket." I have health insurance through my work (albeit it's crappy) but it's still insurance. She said it would be like $5,000.
