I am so proud of myself. I belong to a bourbon society in the UK. It's quite big and we have a facebook group and socials. The guy who used to plan our socials has gotten busy with life and the whiskey bar that used to host us closed. I really liked the socials, where we bring a bottle of bourbon or rye or American whiskey and share them with others (along with buying drinks from our location). So, I took it on myself to research other whiskey bars that might have space, get in touch with them, visit them and then pick one that would work, while planning the night with the bar manager.
Last night was the night. Since I first joined the society, we've typically done a Thursday night gathering and we usually get 8-10 people, max. With doing it on a Friday, we had over 20 people (and a few had to drop out at the last minute). The venue is small so we almost filled it (they still had a few tables with reservations during our time there). It was buzzing! And everyone left smiling. The bar manager was thrilled that it went so well (and they made a good amount of money in the 3 hours we were there). People brought some good bottles to share. Wahoo!
I've never put together anything like this and everyone wants to come back, so I'm already starting a plan for a Saturday afternoon gathering (yup, day drinking!)which everyone thought was a fab idea (including the bar manager). Can't wait!
That sounds like a lot of fun. And quite a bit of work for you. I do enjoy a bourbon neat in the winter. I'm not super fussy like I am about wine or beer. My husband's nephew is a buyer for a chain of liquor stores in the Midwest and has shared dome amazing stuff which is fun when it happens.
I have to catch up on stuff around the house today and then meeting some friends for dinner at a freakishly good Chinese restaurant.
That sounds like a fun evening! Early hockey today so we are already at the rink. I could take a nap on the bleachers; I’m exhausted. Lots of running around today, but I am already looking forward to the extra hour of sleep tomorrow.
Sounds like fun! Hopefully now that you’ve e done the initial work, subsequent events should be much easier to plan?
C slept over at a friend’s house last night, for the first time. Nothing heard from the hosts, so I assume that means it went okay? I have to work later this morning for half a day, then H and an out-of-town friend are going to a football game tonight, and friend is going to come back and spend the night. Friend’s wife is invited to come hang with me (wine, takeout, movie on the couch?) but I’m not sure if she can come.
We are having our annual fake Thanksgiving today and the turkey is still not defrosted! I think we are going to run out and get a fresh one and then cook the other one tomorrow or Monday (?) for just “leftover” meat. I know you can cook a frozen or icy one but that would push back the serving time too far.
This is why I normally get a fresh turkey! But I hadn’t seen too many fresh ones yet and saw a good sized frozen one and put it in the fridge Monday and thought it would be fine. I’m a little annoyed it took up so much space all this time in our small fridge and will still be there after doing all this cooking today. People better want leftovers!
ETA okay no place has a fresh turkey. We’ve done this in October about 15 times and never had any issue getting one. Why is everything trash? Two stores they said they won’t even get them until a day or two before Thanksgiving. WTF.
I slept until 730am which is pretty late for me. I remember DH taking the dog out at like 630, but I guess I fell back asleep.
Amazon keeps changing subscribe and save offerings and it’s driving me bonkers. Today it’s my laundry detergent refills. I don’t want a new bottle, I like the smaller refill bags.
I think we’re going to head to Manteo today. We never make it down there in the summers with traffic.
DH texted our beach friends yesterday with a pic and the dad just started cancer treatments. 😔 I think I’m going to grab an OBX blanket and send a care package of stuff.

Today is ds's confirmation (I know they are traditionally in the spring but our church does them in the fall for some reason). I have so many mixed feelings about it. I'm athiest to begin with. Ds didn't want to do it by the end of last year and is basically going through with it to make dh happy, who only wants him to do it to make his mom happy, although we did have 'reasons' for putting him in CCD to begin with when he was little and did feel like he might as well go through with it now that he made it this far, kinda. We are also hosting family and a few friends at our house afterwards. We've hosted a few things at our house since we moved in (3 years now!) but it's mostly all been immediate family or dh's side only. This is the 1st time I've invited more of my extended family because I have a bit of a strained relationship with them, mostly due to my parents' divorce and my strained relationship with my own parents. But my dad's sister and mom (who just turned 90!) are coming, and other sister might come, and my mom's sister and her husband, my 2 cousins and one of their family is coming, and none of them have been to my house before. So I'm feeling all kinds of anxious because 1. I don't feel especially comfortable around these people in general just because I'm not around them a lot and I have social anxiety in general. and 2. I'm worried they're going to judge my house, my cleaning, my clutter, etc. (my house is big and in a super nice neighborhood, but we don't have a cleaner and I have a broken elbow at the moment so I cleaned, but with 2 dogs and kids who literally have a room of legos, I feel like people expect our house to be nicer and MUCH neater than it is). I'm trying to tell myself not to care about what these people think about me and just relax, but that never actually works.

It's party day! Everyone I invited confirmed so that's a huge relief. DS is so excited.
Question: Are 2 pizzas for 6 kiddos enough? That's what comes in the party package but I don't know if I should order another or just get some fries or chicken tenders instead to snack on.
mrsukyankee, that sounds like a lot of fun! Congrats on a successful first event!
I have so much to do today. The house is a disaster, I have piles of stuff everywhere that I need to deal with/tidy up/put away. Our first few days of actual cold weather started this week and I really need to dig out our stash of hats/gloves/etc, have everybody try on coats and see what is going to get used vs. what can be donated, etc.
I need to return a pair of shoes that have been sitting around since my birthday, I ordered a pair of white ladies 8.5 and they sent me black mens 13s, lol. No way those are working!
We are going to a bonfire tonight, which is potluck and byob. It's going to be COOOOOLD and also I want to find something good to cook and bring.
For some godforsaken reason I woke up at 5:30 this morning and had an anxiety spiral about something extremely stupid at work so there was no chance I was getting back to sleep. DS 2 is maybe sick--he had a sore throat last night but says he feels fine this morning--and a 10 am birthday party across town. After that Kid 1 has archery at 1:00 on the opposite side of town from the party and also pretty far from our house, and then we all need to get ready for family photos and be up a canyon by 4:00. H has a work thing from 8:30-2:00, so I'm doing all of the driving. All of which means I won't get the chance to take a nap even if I want to.
I’m feeling so much better after weeks of bronchitis and pneumonia. It’s been 48 hours since my last antibiotic and so now I’m just waiting to see if symptoms come back or if I’m actually in the clear. I have a script for a chest x-ray for Monday, so hopefully after that I can finally put a period on this absolute shit few months.
Except that H came home from his work trip with Covid, lol. Symptoms started last Saturday/Sunday, but he’s been symptom free since Wednesday, so he’s out of the isolation period at least, but I’m still asking him to mask in the house since I absolutely CANNOT get Covid right now. And I’m bunking up with DD. I’m not taking any chances.
Excited for the Eagles/Dallas game tomorrow. Taking the kids to a friends house to watch it and it’s the first fun thing I get to do after being sick!

Two pizzas is plenty for 6 kids. You can't go wrong with fries though.

I'm glad you're feeling better and fingers crossed for a clear x-ray and staying clear of your dh's covid germs...that would be too much. Speaking of bronchitis...maudefindlay, how are you faring with yours? Was there someone else suffering from it too right now?
blondemoment123 , that sounds like plenty of pizza for 6 kiddos.

We are at gymnastics for DS. The toddler/preschool class is playing chase. I forgot how ear piercing that age can be. They are playing a chasing game and there are 10 or so kids screaming in laughter. I think I have become a cranky old person. I’m about the only adult not laughing or finding it cute.

expectantsteelerfan thanks for thinking of me. I went to the ER late Wed/early Th as I was really short of breath and my chest hurt. No cardio-pulmonary issues found. High WBC indicating I was fighting an infection. So koko fighting the bronchitis, but no pneumonia. They gave me anti-inflammatory med and that has definitely reduced the chest discomfort. Thursday night I slept well. Last night I was up a couple times and feeling short of breath but not as bad as before. All that to say I think I'm on the mend, but slow going. Very glad DH has been off the past few days and picking up the slack. No plans this weekend other than resting.
I took the kids to tae kwon do this morning. My 11 year old led the "rules" at the start of class. "Be obedient to your parents." " Eyeroll" never gets old, lol.
It’s raining pretty hard here, so skipping the dog park until later. We have breakfast with my parents at 9:30. They might go to the Boyce park afterwards, and DD and I will probably do some shopping and chores.
DS had a friend stay over, and we put the air mattress out. Why do his friend only sleep in a ball on the floor?!? Boys are weird. Lol
This is the first weekend in awhile that we don’t have plans. So far I slept in and had coffee. I do need to go and hand out info about sponsoring wreaths for our cemetery later. I’m going to bring ds1 with me.
I need to grocery shop too. Our fridge is pretty empty. H is traveling this week though so dinners will be simple stuff.

We always keep an eye out for houses in case we see something good. How did this flooring choice get made and why? The diagonal placement is bad enough...but the random and weirdly shaped transition to a completely different flooring? Why people why?

I get not wanting hardwood in the kitchen (I have it and I hate it), but that doesn't look super-functional or cohesive at all.
Tonight is the first of a few of David's birthday celebrations. My little sister is in town so we're meeting with my dad for dinner tonight. On the aging of parents thing, mine and my dad's text exchange was so funny. He asks where we're meeting, so I text him the name of the restaurant and he responds "what is that? I don't even know what that is? Where is it?" Dad. It is a restaurant. Is your google broke? The man is only 68, lol.
My H and I take turns sleeping in on the weekends, today is my day and I’m just longing in bed until 10. I can hear my 4 year old having a full on meltdown in the living room and am very happy I don’t have to deal with it.

People really have bad taste! But that house has a lot of potential! I love the light.
Years ago we renovated our master bath and put our washer/dryer in there. It was more cramped and never exactly what I had envisioned from the beginning, but it was ok and convenient to have on the same floor as the bedrooms.
But as my kids have gotten older, and more clothes, and more clothes that need special washing instructions and/or can't go in the dryer, I HATE IT. Our bathroom and bedroom are always cluttered with clothes that are hang-dry and baskets of clean clothes that haven't been folded yet. A few nights ago I could barely get to the bathroom sink between the kids hampers, baskets of clean clothes, and clothes hanging to dry. I freaked out and said we have to find another solution.
The original location was our tiny mudroom and it's absolutely not possible to put them back there.
The only other place is the unfinished side of our basement. I have mixed feelings about it but H says he would be willing to build walls to enclose it and make a counter for folding and basket storage. It would be less convenient to have to go down two flights of steps but I'm hoping that the relief of being able to keep a clean bedroom would be worth it.
I’m really starting to like my Situationship. He’s a great guy and has really been there for me the last 2 weeks while I’ve been dealing with the legal stuff with STBX. It’s not a good thing though because I know that he is not looking for a relationship at all. I should probably just end things, but ugh.

Is it possible to have one set in your bathroom and one set in the basement. I’d have the kids use the basement laundry, and I’d want a small set in my bathroom for just me.
Also how old are your kids? Have them come get the clean laundry and put it away.
