Out of the blue, C is obsessed with the Lego Globe. It’s top of her wish list for Christmas and she talks about how cool it is all the time.
It’s pricey at $229. I know nothing about Legos. Is there a holiday sale or coupon? Do sets like this go out of stock? We already know my husband will have to help her with the actual build.
If you join the Lego club you can earn points that will get you discounts on future purchases, plus freebie kits they throw in when you spend over a certain amount. Some sets will go out of stock the closer you get to the holidays, though the globe has been out for awhile now so I'm not sure you'll have a problem getting it.
If that specific globe is a fairly new release, watch to see if it starts to go out of stock online.
Often times Legos are excluded from big box store promotions around the holidays. Sets do go on sale, but often times those sales are saturated with trademarked sets from Ninjago, Disney, etc.
I view the more decorative sets such as castles, the globe, etc., as construction and decor. She’s likely to put it together and leave it on display for years. Sounds like a great gift.

If you are a Costco member, they sometimes have Lego sets for a decent price. I doubt they're the newest releases, though.
Our Barnes & Noble carries a fair amount of Lego sets and sometimes sends coupons/offers discounts to members. The membership itself isn't free though so it depends if it's worth it.
Agree - don't wait, they go out of stock and then you'll only find them for jacked up prices on Amazon.
The most I’ve seen is maybe 10-15% off at places like Target. I wouldn’t expect this to go on sale enough to really make a dent in the price.
When C wants a large expensive set like that, we usually split the cost with him so he pays half (using birthday money, allowance, plant-watering money from neighbors, etc).
Otherwise, if you can afford it as a larger holiday gift, I wouldn’t wait for a sale that probably won’t happen.
Occasionally, Lego on Rakuten goes 10% or even up to 20 % cash back, so I try to go through that for the bigger sets. That's when I purchased the 229 dollar hocus pocus set, so I got 10 percent back. If you aren't already signed up, I can provide a referral link.
If you have a barnes and noble membership the 10% discount applies to Lego.
Those large sets are pricey and hard to find sales or coupons, but they are such a good buy.
My kids will spend weeks building a Lego set (or a puzzle) and I love anything m that work their brains and is screen-free
Omgosh! Lego is always excluded from coupons and stuff, so I didn’t know this. Thanks for sharing!
hermione, if you or your H qualifies as an educator, you may be able to get the BN membership for free. They were converting educator memberships to their new membership program for free in the summer. It wouldn’t hurt to ask. Heck, I’d be happy to buy it for you and have it shipped to you if you want. That’s most likely the best discount you’re going to get.

Unrelated to the globe set in question, but the Lego Dreamzzz tree house my son asked for was on sale for $65 (full price $110) at my Costco today. I was so thrilled! Rare to see that big of a discount on Lego sets.
The best I’ve seen on Lego is typically about 20% off, and usually that’s only certain sets. As someone noted, Lego had 20% cash back on Rakuten last year for a little bit, and I think that was the best deal. I don’t remember when!!! Cyber Monday?? Black Friday??
Costco has some sets at a discount, but I haven’t seen the globe.
I just read a blog about a different set and they said to wait and buy directly from Lego during one of the upcoming promotions:
LEGO Insiders Weekend (19-18 November 2023) Likely GWPs include this year’s Seasonal Christmas GWP and the rumoured Majisto’s Workshop set High confidence that you’ll get 2x Insider Points as well
LEGO Black Friday and Cyber Monday (24 – 27 November 2023) Expect a big set launching, and plenty of LEGO sales

Thanks for posting! My 13 year old has the Viking village on his list.

hermione,Kohl’s sells sets as well. The coupons don’t work on them but kohl’s cash does.
The globe came out in February 2022, so a discount is possible. I recommend bricklink. It’s a site owned by Lego. It’s like eBay for Lego. Here is a seller of the globe new in box for $175.
