Dear school Parent teacher conferences are for the parents and teachers to talk. They aren't parent/student/teacher conferences where the student explains how they are doing in class and the teacher just gets to hang out and listen. I talk to my kid and can see from grades that academically she is fine. I want to talk to you about how much time she should be putting into these at home projects, DD consistently asking to stay home because she is bored, and other odds and ends. Parent who wants 10 minutes to talk the teacher Me
Dear Work Could the phone maybe ring at least a couple times a day. I'm lonely and the dog doesn't talk back. no desire to work because it is dead
Only two people in our house have adjusted to you. Even the dog is thrown off. DS is zonked by 7pm and up by 5:30. I am strangely wide awake until 11pm and up long before DS.
Signed, We voted against you - can't we just keep standard time forever?
I'm so excited to have everyone home this weekend. Per usual, you have a list of things to do, but only a few days to few them done. But I'm game for anything.
Dear Dd,
I don't know why you are trying to talk me into setting up the Christmas tree this weekend. I'm all in. It's your brother and father. Go bug them.
Signed mom
Dear universe,
Thank you for the short work week. I don't have a full week in me.

Dear kitten,
I hope everything goes well when we bring you home this weekend. Your world will be turned upside down from being a barn cat all 9 weeks of your life to a spoiled house cat. I hope you like going camping because I want to take you with us!
Signed, Waited a long time to make this commitment
Dear Beau,
I'm glad you're having fun riding with your old riding buddy today. You've told me on our rides about "Chad trails" that rarely used, unmaintained trails that are way more challenging that what we ride, so I'm glad you are getting challenged today with Chad.
Signed, Your easy trails and logging road riding buddy
Whoever at career day told DD that vets "don't make a lot of money" sucks. I'm glad she's got an idea of a career (software engineer) now that she didn't before, but the world needs more vets! DD is so empathetic with animals and has a magical shield around her that deflects criticism and blame (she is *never* at fault in her mind) and vets need such tough skin that I think she'd be great at it.
Signed, The woman who just got put on a 4 month wait list for an animal dermatologist and thinks that with that much demand, she could charge whatever price she wanted. (FOUR MONTHS. And if you miss the call when it's your turn, you have 1 week to return the call, then you go on the "did not answer" list and they won't call you again, you have to call back to get added to the list.)
PS: DD actually has never expressed an interest in being a vet.
k3am I also want standard time forever. But so many other people want to keep DST!
Dear family photographer,
Why do you have to be so $$$$? I tried to narrow down to 10 favorites to save $400, but couldn’t do it, even though this year’s shoot was my least favorite we have done together. I guess I’ll be paying your insane price to get all the digital images, yet again.
Dear WPs, I think I have figured out winter camp options for all four kids for our upcoming winter break. Of the 17 days my kids have off (including weekends), we should have some childcare on 8 of those days from at least 9-3 (8-4 for the bigger kids). For the past 12 holiday seasons, we have always had to cobble together some sort of babysitter limited coverage since we have always had a kid too young for camps and can’t/don’t want to take off a full 2+ weeks of work. This may be my most relaxing winter break since having kids 11+ years ago.
186momx, I'd request a 1:1 with your child's teacher(s). I did this for a couple of DD1's teachers after the student-led conference. While there are several merits to student-led conferences, I'm all for requesting a check in sans-child. My 1:1s with a couple of teachers lasted only 10-15 minutes and were very beneficial. Most important, the teachers didn't have a script or check list, so it was just about my wonders.
Dear Cancer, You're getting the one finger salute from me. Indefinitely. The Sister of a Fighter
Dear Peloton, I'm sold. At least for the winter. a girl who usually hates working out indoors
DS did the math test corrections with the tutor but apparently not in the right spot. Side eyeing the tutor for not reading the directions but also the teacher for not telling DS because tests are in the IEP.
So basically he got a C in advanced math for no reason because you didn’t accept the corrections done on the page next to the page you wanted. Also his IEP covers stuff like this but we all know you aren’t following the IEP.
So anyway it’s official you suck. His teacher also said she would raise quiz grades to match test grades in the parent presentation which seemed odd but she never did it so why put that in her presentation? And she told everyone in the room of parents that her colleague couldn’t be there because she was in the hospital for fibroids.
Dear high school teachers, You teach 9th grade. You still have to teach, not just throw readings at them and tell them to figure it out. If you give a project, make sure it’s clear what they are supposed to do so I don’t have 6 crying former students in my classroom at the end of the day begging their 8th grade teacher for help. Also my kid isn’t using her ADHD as “a crutch”, and the fact that you don’t understand anything about her learning profile makes me wonder how you ever got a teaching job. Do your job better or ask for help. And follow her damn FEP — it’s not that hard. . Signed, Frustrated mom and colleague
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Thank you for finally moving DS out of the dyslexia therapy class since… you know… he doesn’t have dyslexia. And for noticing he’s reading at grade level (though I think he’s reading above grade level). I appreciate that you’re going to send him to work on comprehension in the library every day instead. I think he will like that.
Dear standby gods, Thank you for coming through and getting us seats on a flight that got us home three hours earlier than expected last night! I was not looking forward to getting back to my house around midnight. I feel much more prepared to tackle work catch up today. Signed, Grateful traveler
Pull your heads our of your asses! You are going to lose your entire finance team in a domino effect. The first domino is actively job hunting. Then the next domino (my H) will quit with or without another job lined up. Then his other employee will retire. Finally H's boss will quit. And that's a wrap. All because you don't want to hire a few $60-70k/year employees for your finance department. You'd rather hire yet another Director of Nothing for 200k a year. Assholes.
