I'm on a knee scooter at work and took a major tumble in the parking lot tonight. Hit a rock and went flying off the thing. Both knees slammed into the ground and my right wrist is all messed up too.
I'm now sitting here icing my knees in hopes of no serious swelling but they hurt like hell.
How can one person have so much bad luck, health-wise, in 2 years?
I had a random night of insomnia Monday and I’m still paying for it. Thankfully this only happens once or twice a year, but I cannot wait for the weekend to arrive and it’s only Wednesday. I even tried to badge to unlock my car when leaving work today! 🤣
My holiday decorations are up, but if only I could wrinkle my nose and all the boxes would go back to where they belong.
I posted a couple of days ago about my 4yo who refuses to take medicine. Just got the dreaded diagnosis that she has an ear infection, so somehow I have to get abx into her 2x/day for 10 days. I successfully hid the first dose in a smoothie, but not looking forward to keeping this up for so long.
Does bribery work? I’d do anything, M&Ms, TV, whatever she likes. I remember the frustration of giving meds to DD1, it sucked. One pedi suggested mixing it with chocolate syrup but she didn’t care for that. DD2 has chronic EIs but we got lucky that she doesn’t mind abx.
We have tried EVERYTHING. She's so stubborn about it. She's not quite as bad with the yummy chewable motrin (bribed her with a later bedtime tonight for that 🤣) but liquid is a battle. Maybe I'll try the bedtime thing tomorrow for the abx...

toddler burrito? It works for my cats 😅
(I'm not actually suggesting this lol.)
We may have tried something similar out of desperation once and it did not go well 😂😅
I got about 4 hours of sleep last night because Alexa started talking in the middle of the night when my brown noise is set to go off, and then I couldn't get back to sleep. I really need to find another solution, because getting woken up 1-2 a month due to Amazon's bad design isn't working, and my H doesn't want it running all night.
I had zero motivation to do anything today, so I ate a bunch of candy and binged that Twin Flames cult show on Netflix.

I know 4 is on the young side, but could you teach her to swallow pills? That was a total life changer for my kid who hated meds. She was 6 though when we tried it.

Ok so I’ve only ever done this with a dog, but can you put it in a syringe and just shoot it between her check and gums? Maybe she will think a syringe is cool? If not, it’s easier to get in than a cup of medicine.

I have done this with a small child, inspired by my work at an animal shelter, and can confirm it is easier and also that I'd rather pill childen all day long than even one cat.
Haha. I’m the opposite. When I was younger, I was really into this stuff. But I’m in a middle age funk, and can’t be bothered with any of this anymore. OTOH, maybe I should to try to bring myself joy.
Related, I am trying to spark joy at home. I got a bee in my bonnet that I wanted a white Christmas tree with blue bobbles. I’ve always been someone who had to have a real, live tree. But, I just ordered a fake white tree. My grandpappy is shunning me (he came from fraiser for land NC).
I can totally understand that. I love that there's no pressure to participate though. Honest to God, one man has your tree in his cube! And a 3 foot tall nutcracker. Next Thursday is a whole holiday event and there are 3 prizes for the cube decorating. There's "events" all day including an ugly sweater contest. That's in the lobby so you don't even have to see it if you don't want to. We all get free tickets for a tricky tray set up in the conference room. Bringing in food for a food pantry gets you extra tickets. There's a catered lunch and then a champagne toast and dessert where they call the winners and the office closes at 3pm!
I'm hoping to turn my cube into whoville!
We’re doing a gingerbread house decorating contest next week and I am pumped! Staff meeting with catered lunch and then gingerbread houses. It’s going to be great.
I really love my work team though and enjoy spending time with them.

I know you’ve said you’ve tried everything, but the ONLY thing that ever worked for my sensory challenged kid was a sour patch gummy. He would get half before and half afterwards and I guess it was enough to help mask the taste/texture of whatever antibiotic or steroid he was on at the time. He’s 11 now and we still use it when needed.
I hope you’re able to find something that works for your daughter! DS was always sick from daycare germs and it was a nightmare every time he was sick until we stumbled upon the sour patch kids.

This is what we did when we tried the toddler burrito I mentioned before. Works really well with babies, does NOT work with toddlers who are really good at spitting stuff out 😬
pandorica, we buy a pint of ice cream and DD gets a couple of bites after every dose. She sucks on a sucker until right before the medicine, then medicine, then drink of water, then ice cream. It's a process, but once we figured it out getting her to take meds has been easier.
A lady in the line next to me at the grocery store was throwing a fit because something she bought on sale last week was not on sale today and demanded the sale price.
It was getting interesting when I left lol.
I love witnessing strangers getting into arguments lol
It seems kind of random. Yesterday it got to like 76 in the house at 8pm and we had to crack a window.
Like, the heat shouldn't be kicking on if I have the thermostat at 68 and the temp is over 68, correct? Yet my radiator is super warm so it must have? I don't hear it running though. Clearly I don't understand heat lol.
I want to see what happens tomorrow when its supposed to be 50ish out.
Ours does this and has for the whole time we have lived here but only around this time of year when there are big drops in temperature or big temp differences in a single day. Then it straightens out. We lower the temperature in the evenings for a few days and that seems to help.
Radiators get really hot and stay hot pretty quickly so it’s possible it might be dipping below 68 for a few minutes, coming on briefly and cutting off again.
I don’t know, I find it a little mysterious too and at some point every year around Thanksgiving I want to call someone to take a look and then suddenly it’s fine. Hopefully that will be true for you too!
I hope so! I think I may just message our HVAC guy; hes super nice and it would give me peace of mind for him to stop and make sure nothing is egregiously wrong. I have been doing some research and think it could be a faulty or stuck valve causing hot water to continue to flow to the radiators while the heat isn't actually running. They seem like they're just getting randomly hot at times even when the heat isn't running. And I don't want astronomical gas bills! lol. Always something.

Serious question: is this not the normal way to give little kids medicine? Here all the kid medicines come with a syringe in the box, and even though L is 2.5 now we still use the syringe because a) he likes it and b) it's less messy than the spoon.

Up until a certain point, but then it moves to cups and little spoons that you can pour and measure in. The doses get too big for the syringes.

Ahhh gotcha. Luckily I have the opposite problem, L asks if he can have medicine, so for the one we have that now requires two syringes for the full dose (and for this one you have to use the syringe, it's the only way to get it out of the bottle) he is happy to wait for round two!

pandorica, we had that issue with DS too and antibiotics. Found he did better if he could do the syringe of medicine in his mouth then immediately got a sit of soda after. After a couple of days of soda, we switched to seltzer. Lots of screaming at the beginning, but he liked the control vs me squirting it in his mouth.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Got some new ideas to try this week.
Good luck! When my son had to take a med he hated, we had the best luck mixing it into greek yogurt with nut butter. I think the thickness of the yogurt plus the strong flavor of the nut butter hid it the best, and they are foods he enjoys a lot. But we still didn't always manage to get the full dose in :/
