My SIL lost her dog a few months ago and the family has decided they’re ready for another after meeting the sweetie we recently adopted. She reached out to the rescue they’ve adopted from in the past. Tomorrow they’re going to meet a purebred Belgian Malinois. Ummmmmmmmm. One of the reasons it took them time to be ready is their last dog was so chill and sweet and they were afraid to end up with a chaotic dog. Unless this dog is a total fluke of the breed, I don’t see this ending well.
IMO Malinois are the most beautiful dogs alive. But I am so not the right person for one. They're a dog that needs a job. High energy and high intelligence is a very bad combo for someone who isn't going to put a ton of time and energy I to working their dog every single day. I know people who have mals and they are wonderful for the right people.
If they want a chill dog, maybe consider a greyhound rescue?

The trainer we used for our dog had a Malinois he was rehoming because she had no interest in being trained to be a scent dog. We were so tempted to take her, but thankfully we came to our senses. She was absolutely gorgeous, but we didn't have a job for her to do or enough time to get her the crazy amount of exercise she would have needed. Now we have 2 young doodles and an older lab mix and that's plenty!
