basilosaurus back in 2010 H and I went to visit his family in AZ in December. They were all in their winter jackets, scarves & hats. H and I were in very light jackets or just our short sleeve shirts & jeans our whole visit. It was roughly 65 degrees the whole time we were there.
I had told DD we could go to Yankee Candle today, we live about an hour from the flagship store/village and we've been there a few times pre pandemic, but never during Christmastime. I started to feel off yesterday, I had hoped it was just the dusty decorations making me cough, but I woke up with a cold. DD was bummed we can't go, but I told her we could go next Sunday. I'm drinking some coffee and trying to rally enough to do laundry.
We did manage to put the tree up yesterday I wasn't sure it would fit, it takes up a lot of space, fortunately it is short enough for my ceilings. I love a big tree, but this one is going on 15 years and it might be time to get something a big narrower. I got this one on a 90% off clearance sale right after Christmas, but things don't seem to go on clearance like that anymore. I guess I'll see what they have after Christmas this year.
Well, the guy at the cutting table at Joann’s said it was a staffing issue. They didn’t have enough staff to run the registers and the cutting table. 🤷♀️
Joann is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy right now so it makes sense. I used to work with some people who went there in buying and they had a massive layoff in September I think.
NOOOOOooooooooooooo………..
It’s the only place left to buy fabrics in person. Like, I get it’s a niche market. But fuck
It's been a really nice weekend. Friday night, we took DS to a college hockey game since he's been into hockey lately. He loved it! Saturday AM we worked out, and then drove to my parents town for their holiday parade. Went to a brewery for lunch beforehand. I'm a weirdo who loves a parade and seeing all the different organizations and their floats. It was also 62 degrees and sunny so it was just a nice afternoon. After we got home, the 3 of us separated into 3 different rooms for naps/TV. Then we just ordered pizza for dinner and watched a movie. I made some jalapeno cranberry margaritas which were delicious. Today we're just hanging around the house and watching holiday shows/movies and I'll probably work on our holiday cards.

And notions! I can get most fabric I need from smaller shops but Joanns has all the odds and ends.
Although to be fair the store experience has gotten increasingly miserable and I avoid it more and more over time.
My husband really doesn't want the dog on the couch. I really want her up here to cuddle with. I'm seriously considering getting a tall ottoman and letting the dog chill on it so we can cuddle without me being on the floor.
Who is crazy in this situation?
My dog has his own couch (we have it covered entirely and then take that off if we have guests) AND he's allowed on our couch too (it's leather so less likely to have issues). So, I vote you are not crazy. What you can do is get a cover for the couch so that the dog doesn't make a mess of it.
I can't get over how many people comment on how it's now cold. Whether it's to ask where to get blankets or advertising hot soups and stews or asking how many layers to pack.
The lowest I have ever seen it is 75. I do understand we acclimate to hotter temps since it's hot all year, and we often don't have ac, so 75 might feel deliciously cool, even worthy or a light (t shirt light) long sleeve layer, it's not cold in the least. I literally just saw a restaurant advertising boulliabaise now that it's cold. Current temp, post sunset, is 84 with heat index 93. This is my 6th "winter" in the region, so I'm well acclimated, but, no, it's not cold. It's merely cool enough to wear light jeans and still be comfortable
That’s wild to me! At 75 I can’t even do short sleeves because they’re too hot, only tanks, and still need sandals because closed shoes are sweltering.
But this week we walked the dog in 28* weather and I was so comfortable. I had to wear coat, hat, gloves, and snow boots, but dressed right I was the most comfortable I’ve been outside since last winter.
I woke up with a cough and what feels like the beginnings of a cold, plus the start of my period, so that stinks. My to-do list for the day involves a ton of errands, and I'm thinking that H can probably run most of them instead of me. I suspect my day is now going to involve pajamas, lots of tea, and at least one nap.
On the plus side DS 2's birthday party went fabulously yesterday. We met his buddies at a food hall, got everyone lunch, sang/did gifts/embarrassed DS thoroughly (at 13 everything public is embarrassing), and then took them to an escape room place. They made it out with two and a half minutes left, which sounds pretty good to me. I'm so glad he has such a nice group of friends.

As a dog lover, the answer to you question is to DTMF.
I kid. Why doesn't he want her on the couch? They make nice looking waterproof covers if that's the concern. I'd skip the ottoman and go straight to my own big chair for me and the dog.
When we first got her she was a bit possessive over the couch (small growls). I think she's grown out of it.
Appropriate screen name penguingrrl. Ideally, I don't leave the house if it is under 40. I was cold in the 70s this summer in California. No humidity! How do you live! My ideal habitat is terrarium.
We went to Costco yesterday and it was the craziest I’ve ever seen it. What is it about this weekend for shoppers?
Against my better judgement I let ds1 have two friends sleep over on Friday night. Yesterday it took me nearly an hour to clean up the mess. There were wrappers all over, soda cans, playing cards strewn about, broken toys, etc. In the middle of my cleanup I called DS in (he was so sleep deprived he could not function which was why I was cleaning) and told him that the boys could no longer come over because they didn’t show any respect for the house or our belongings. Then after talking with H I realized that I set us up for failure by agreeing to have both of them, having no structure for the night, and not enforcing a bedtime or lights out time. After DS got some sleep we talked again and he agreed that sleepovers are ok, but slumber parties not so much.
I signed up for this service called Trusted Housesitters that connects homeowners with people looking for places to stay. I was thinking that it was a great solution to get a free pet sitter while we go away. Our listing has been live for a couple days and I got one person experiencing homelessness and one person who sounded great in their initial message, but has not responded and now that I take a deeper look at their profile, they look a bit shady.

A has started coughing again. 😩😩😩
We finished his 2nd round of steroids on Friday and now 2 days later he is starting a wimpy cough. When he finished the first round he started with wimpy cough on day 2 and it quickly devolved over night to up every 3 hours with significant cough and wheezing and needing the nebulizer. This 2nd round was 10 days of inhaled steroids 2x a day.
I am crossing all crossables that this doesn’t progress the same way, but I am so nervous about tonight.
I feel like we need to do some more digging into why this won’t go away. It’s been 3 months.
I woke up today feeling a little less like dog shit. Now I'm drinking coffee and watching Love Hard. I love this movie so much.
I don’t know what it is about that movie but I love it. And I’m not a rom-com person, so I expected to be like, “Meeeeh, not for me,” but it is now my first choice of present-wrapping watching.

He also doesn't want to be relocated by the dog.
oOk, I amend my previous statement. If there's potential for space/resource guarding, then that is a valid reason to not have her on the couch.

Your H. Family members should be allowed on the couch IMO.

LOL! I’ve admittedly never been somewhere with low humidity and heat, so I wonder if that changes it. I’m in NJ and the whole state is a swamp, so I associate heat with abject misery.
But I also love skiing and sledding and winter sports. I always figure I can always put more layers on but there’s only so much you can take off.

My kid has also had a cough for months. Doesn’t seem to be reflux, exercise induced, allergy related because there’s not really any waxing or waning, and her bout with covid was a year before it started. It hasn’t been debilitating but it’s also always there. There is a temporal relationship with swim team (both outdoor and indoor) but I don’t think a chlorine allergy is really a thing? We have been to urgent care and the ped like five or six times. She’s done a few treatments including a long release inhaler and Singulair but they’ve not done too much. Finally last week after she developed something acute on top of it (which isn’t covid or strep) they were like yeah maybe you should see a pulmonologist about that chronic thing to run some function tests. The guy they recommended is taking new patients, great! In April. 😢 I hope you have better luck but may also want to get on the horn with someone soon in case you have a similar wait.
Today my daughter turns 14, I'm about to get my period, I made a mistake and looked at polls, and had a full on sobbing breakdown about 2024 election anxiety.
So. Now that that's over, I'm going to frost a cake and do laundry.
We've had a busy weekend. Went to watch H's cousin play volleyball against oldest kid's college (which I am actually a fan of because it's in my home state and have always been a fan, so win/win being able to watch cousin and college team) a couple hours away. Then ds had a basketball tournament yesterday a couple hours in the opposite direction from the Friday game. I know that doesn't sound very busy, but when you live an hour or more away from all the things, it's a lot.
Today we are going to build gingerbread houses for the contest at the bowling alley in school town and watch football.
I am on day 10 of a cold and am so tired of the half stuffy nose and coughing. Might have to go to the clinic this week if I'm still coughing later in the week.

Home now, it was a fun and quick trip to see one of my oldest friends. The type of laughing old friends do together is good for the soul. We did a wreath making workshop. I love how mine turned out. I'm not crafty and it's plain, but I love it.

I had mentioned recently that my SIL was going to met a Belgian Malinois rescue, which happened yesterday. She texted me after that it was definitely not a good fit. The handler first said “don’t look her in the eyes” and then the dog lunged at her H and not in the “omg I’m so excited to meet you!” way. So the search continues for them. Hopefully that dog will find someone with the right skills and patience to work with her.

Ugh, I'm sorry you're dealing with something similar. April is sadly going to be here before we know it. I hope you get some answers.
We finished watching this season of great British baking show on Netflix last night and I am so pleased with the winner!
I think this has been the best season in a long time. Allison was an amazing add as a host and all of the contestants were so sweet and wonderful. My H and I laughed our asses off every episode. So fun!
Same on both counts. If it couldn't be Saku, I'm glad it was the person who won. An absolute delight.
And Allison may be the best thing that's happened to Bake Off since Mary Berry left.
Today was Breakfast with Santa at my son's school. I baked a lot yesterday for the bake sale at the Breakfast and then volunteered to work at it today. It's rainy and miserable and I just wanted to stay home. When I got there there was really nothing to do. I HATE volunteering when there's no actual work. I asked at the bake table and cocoa table if they needed help and of course they all signed up together so they said "nope!". So I stood around while they all one-upped each other on how long they had been there. PTA martyrs are my least favorite martyrs!
Joann is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy right now so it makes sense. I used to work with some people who went there in buying and they had a massive layoff in September I think.

I don't do anything with fabric, but my only other option for crafty stuff in my area is Hobby Lobby. Which is not happening ever. I was just at Joann today and they had one (1!) person working. I was waiting to pick up my order, and another customer came up to ask if there was anyone on the floor. Nope, just that one lone cashier. 💔
We put ornaments on the tree today. We collect ornaments on vacations, and have lots of handmade ornaments that C made over the years, so it was really fun to pull them out of the box and reminisce. As much as I appreciate a beautifully decorated tree, I truly love seeing all of our memories as they come out of the box.

I’m visiting my parents until Tuesday and we’ve been BUSY. And the weather has been crappy cold rain, which makes all the running around they want/need me to do extra fun🙄
I’m meeting a friend tonight, on the other side of the city. I am so excited to see her, I don’t even mind the drive!
I caught the beagle trying to scratch her back with a branch of the Christmas tree so she is no longer allowed to be alone downstairs. She is not pleased with this development. At all.
