I'm pregnant with our second, and our kids will be just under 2.5 years (28 months) apart. We currently have a City Mini GT2, which we love, and use almost daily in nice weather. We often use it to get to the playgrounds closest to our house, which are an easy adult walk, but a far toddler walk.
We are fairly certain we want a double stroller, but are not sure what kind. Side to side or front to back? It seems like there are a lot more front/back options, but I've heard from some friends that they're a little difficult to maneuver.
How much is it worth spending? We're unclear how long we'll need a double stroller (this is our last baby, so we won't need it once our son no longer rides in a stroller). We'll likely look for a used double stroller, but even then, not sure it's worth spending as much as a City Mini double would cost. But our sidewalks aren't great, so we also don't necessarily want to go for the cheapest stroller.
Would love any thoughts from those of you with kids relatively close in age! Thanks!
I loved my double BOB. A joy to push. Wide but still barely fits through any standard door that is designed to be wide enough for a wheelchair. It’s not good for hauling around in the car or going shopping. But to push from my garage to the playground it was perfect.
Not sure where you live but if you’re in SoCal I’m about to give mine away
We have a city mini double which I love, but if I did it over again I'd try to find a city mini gt. I bought mine used off fb marketplace. My youngest is 4 and it still gets occasional use. I'm expecting to use it at least another year or two because my kids are lazy.
Mine were right at 2.5 years apart and I babywore the baby and used a single stroller at first as I wanted to see what I needed.
Turned out that they were fine with that until the baby was 6 months and the oldest turned 3 and wanted to walk, so we made due with the single. When the oldest wanted to ride short distances, I put him on the foot well of my City Mini or pulled out the baby boba again.
For amusement parks, we took two single strollers (the city mini and a cheap umbrella) and used one or both depending on activity.
I like side by sides when I tried them out, but never purchased as everything kept changing in needs and we aged out.
I loved our City Mini GT double. It's so easy to push and handle. DS1 is 8 and still wants to ride in it, lol. I need to sell it, but the thought makes me sad.

Haha unfortunately I am in New England!
Thanks all. Seems like it might be worth checking fb marketplace frequently to look for a used City Mini GT, Bob, or similar double!
We have the city mini double stroller for the twins. I LOVE it. We also had a front to back Chicco stroller for when they were little to hook the car seats into. That thing is big and bulky and hard to steer and such a pain. Also the back seat doesn't lie flat (not sure if that matters as much with one baby + one toddler). I

I had one of the original Phil and Ted’s double strollers and loved it. The one that looks most similar to what I had is the sport model. My older two were almost 2 years apart, but we lived in NYC and walked everywhere so the older one used the stroller longer than they might have if we weren’t in the city (we would often take the subway to Central Park, spend the day at the zoo and meandering through playgrounds with a picnic lunch, then the kids would nap in the stroller while I walked 3 miles home).
It was a double in the footprint of a single, so was much easier to use than a huge one. And we could fold it up and fit it in the trunk of our beetle when we needed to (but it took the whole trunk) if we were leaving town. It also took less space in our tiny apartment, so was a winner on all fronts. I used it enough to have to replace the tires twice over the years I had it.
I’m a big fan of my City Select. Purchased in 2017, and still in daily use.
Do you find it easy to maneuver? There are a few used City Selects available on fb marketplace at a good price, but I'm a little hesitant about pushing a front to back stroller, especially since I'm short, so I'm afraid it will be difficult to see the front of the stroller. But we love our City Mini GT2 so much that I'm considering this one.

Yes, absolutely! I can get it through doorways (holding the door by myself and pushing the stroller through with the other hand) easily with both seats on.
I rarely use the second seat now and it’s still my primary stroller because I like it that much.
Our kids are 3 years apart. We already had a (new) uppababy Cruz, so we got the vista. It was big, but worked really well in the city. We did have to keep it in the van though because it was too big in the townhouse. It did not fit in the Prius, but fine in the van. We took it on planes and was a rock. It is heavy, but also can carry the kids and the groceries home.
We bought it used, used it for 2 years; when the oldest was 5 we sold it for basically what we paid for it (minus the new toddler seat we had to buy because I didn’t fold it properly once and broke the foot piece). Not bad for 2 years of use.
I had a city mini and a city select and loved them both! The city mini isn’t as smooth of a push, but the seats accommodate much bigger kids than the city select. The select is easier to manage in a big crowd (like Disneyland) but there’s more room for storage in the mini (also important at Disneyland). I bought both used and kept/used both for a long time 😊
My single bob got just as much use as a double, tbh. One kid can sit in the seat and one can easily hop on and off the foot rest. My older kid was never really a stroller kid, so this was often the easiest option when he just needed and occasional quick rest. I never had a glider board, but those look great too.
