I've posted before about my old iMac with various questions. I think it's about 9? 10? years old and I keep being on the verge of upgrading but then not doing it.
Does anyone have a clue why it now won't load certain pages (i.e. Target is messed up a lot, Lego site often times out, certain credit card sites won't load), and for example on Facebook, I can see the main page but if I click on comments, the comments won't load for me to see them. It's convenient for me to use my desktop but sometimes I have to switch to my phone to get something to work. Also, I used to have the Rakuten extension pop up with deals and now it doesn't. And, I could click to pay with PayPal on various sites but now that just scrolls and scrolls and doesn't load the PayPal page (but works on my phone).
Throwing this out there on the odd chance someone will be like, "oh, yeah, you just need to do XYZ!"

What browser are you using? I have a 9-year old macbook pro and a newer one for work. I never use Safari, but either Chrome or Firefox (though I like Firefox for its GUI and privacy settings, it can drain the battery quicker). It sounds like there may be some update that can't be installed?
Safari! But I switched to Chrome today b/c I thought it might be better. Chrome had a pop-up that said something about not being able to update it until I update my operating system...so I think you are both totally on the right track!

What version of the MacOS are you running? Before updating, make sure you have your files backed up to an external drive. And double-check to see if you can update to the latest OS on your iMac. I am not sure if there is some compatibility issue with older computers.
