I found 2 presents that I bought LAST YEAR for Christmas that I apparently lost. So guess what DS2, that knee-hockey game you wanted last year but didn't get? You're getting it this year.
LOL I totally do this. I've started making notes on my Xmas list about where I hide presents so I don't forget anymore. One year I hid DD1's big present so well I almost had a panic attack on Xmas Eve because I couldn't find it!
cattledogkisses, so glad your power is back. I've seen pics from ME and it looks awful. I'm sorry. It is so scary the amount of rain we get these days, which I'm guessing is related to global warming.
silva, we had the flu at Xmas last year and it was awful. Sorry it is ruining your plans. Fingers crossed it passes quickly.

We LOVE our knee hockey set! DS and DH use it almost every day!
My youngest nephew turned 4 yesterday, and we had a little birthday party for him at my sister's before he went to his dad's for Christmas. That little stinker is so flipping cute he almost (ALMOST) makes me wish I had a preschooler of my own again. My mom and I tied for favorite presents--sets of thankfully not-identical Super Mario action figures--and at the end of the night I was the only person he agreed to give a goodbye hug to. Even my 16 year old, who's his favorite person of all time, was told "No!" before nephew ran away giggling like a madman.
I get to babysit him and my 5 year old nephew for a couple of hours next week while my parents take my kids to a play and my sister is at work, and I'm so looking forward to it.
Last day of work for me as well!! I really only have one meeting (that's going to be SUPER boring of course) to get through and then just buttoning up stuff. Anything after that is a 2024 me problem. It's super quiet on campus so it's even harder to stay focused.
Just a couple more things to buy which I'm pretty sure I'll get taken care of tomorrow and then still a fair amount of baking to do. But I just started a to do list so things don't slip by.
A friend of H's has a daughter that works with Taylor Swift tour merchandise in some capacity and they mentioned to H that they had 2 sweatshirts that had been opened so they can't sell them and would our Swifty kid want them - H of course said yes. He brought them home last night and my kid was over the moon excited. She was NOT interested in waiting for one of them to get washed to wear because she HAD TO show it off LOL So thanks random friend of H that I've never meet for gifting (probably) $200 worth of stuff!

He was so excited about it last year, then disappointed when he didn't get it. I could have sworn I bought one, but when I couldn't find it I thought I just...didn't. I was going to get it for his birthday in July, but of course forgot by then. So then when I was moving some things around in our basement, I found it and almost screamed with glee. Hopefully he's still excited about it, lol.
I went to pick up stocking stuff this morning. All the little things that I was expecting to be $2-4 were more like $6-10. I'm not spending $$$ on a stocking so I just got a bunch of candy and called it a day.
Also, my son's favorite Xmas cookies have Hershey Hugs on top. I have now been to 3 stores, no Hugs anywhere. I'm glad he made a double batch a few weeks ago so at least he got some. But what is with the Hug shortage???
Yes! I wanted to get 5$ sbux gc for my kids’ stockings. They don’t sell those at target anymore. Smallest denomination is $15$. Nope. Not doing that.
I remembered to get DD1’s teachers a little something but it completely slipped my mind to get something for our crossing guard. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hope she’s working this afternoon so I can give her something then.
I’m so jealous of everyone that can see their kids in a holiday performance. DD1’s school has a singalong before dismissal today but it’s only for the student body. That doesn’t make any sense to me.
Not looking forward to having to entertain both my kids for the next ten days but I am excited to not have to walk to/from school in the cold!
The twins are home all week and next. I'm trying to still work because I have very little PTO left, but it's hard! I can't work while they're awake and then I can't focus during nap. I really wish I had more PTO and could actually take time off and relax and enjoy holiday stuff, or at least do holiday prep and chores.
meowmaps at my school (and DS') different grades do performances at different times of year. DS' in 2nd grade so he performed for the Veteran's Day assembly. The 3rd graders do the Christmas concert. It's different from when I grew up when all grades did 1-2 songs for a Christmas concert in the evening during the last week of school before break.

First day of break here for my kids. Took DS1 to cross country conditioning where he ran 5 miles in 25 degrees, fun! Ran some errands and brought pizza home for lunch, so everyone loves me at the moment. Christmas shopping is done, but DS1's bday is the 29th. He says he can't think of anything he wants. I asked if he'd be disappointed with a check and said probably, but he just doesn't even know what he likes. You are getting a check then Dude. He's turning 15, so I also just signed him up for driver's education. Happy Bday!
We just got invited to my husband’s aunt’s for Christmas Eve. We will go and now I’m wondering if I need to think of 6-7 couples gifts….
Noooooo, don't do it.
If this was my family, I’d send a text and say let’s do kid gifts only. But it isn’t my family. And I know they will all buy for us. At least I buy kids gifts throughout the year on sale and stocked up on candles so I have a few things to pull from.
I'm getting a little nervous for Christmas. My youngest sister is currently still planning on being there, which is wonderful since I haven't seen her in 2 years. But, she can't eat anything. Like she isn't limited to eating certain things - she can eat nothing. She is fed through her bloodstream. This is new this year, and I think it's going to be hard. Our holidays are always pretty food focused and we usually will have mimosas in the morning (and other drinks throughout the day, but she's never been a big drinker so that probably won't bother her).
I think the plan is more of less to carry on as usual with food, but will that be upsetting for her? Does that make the rest of us assholes? How will she act or what will she do when we're eating? I love my sister but she's always been fairly easy to make snap if things don't go the way she wants them to, so I'm wondering if this is going to be a wonderful reunion or a big stressful long weekend. I am not hosting so I really haven't been involved in the planning.
wildrice - you may not know because you said you haven’t been involved in the planning, but has anyone asked your sister how she feels and what she wants?

I think my mom has. I know she mentioned she doesn't want us to cook bacon in the house, but that was the only request. I just assume it's a "I'm trying to be realistic and not ruin it for everyone else" thing vs an "I'm really ok with watching everyone else eat foods I used to enjoy" thing.
I'm sure it would be easiest for her if we just ate normal meals and left food out of the rest of it altogether, but that's not fair to the rest of us either so I don't know what the right thing would be.

wildrice she may choose to watch a movie in another room while you all eat. The kids could be fed earlier and then maybe while the adults eat she and the kids could play board or card games in another room. It's really just what she wants. If she sits with you all during the meal maybe think of something to discuss that she enjoys so she can really be a part of it.

My kids have 2 more days of school and I have three more days of work, I think all three of us are really looking forward to break.
I realized today that if I clean my house tonight and tomorrow night and then deep clean the bathrooms on Sunday, I won’t have to spend the whole weekend cleaning for Christmas. I don’t know why I just thought of this, probably because I’m feeling overwhelmed and tired.
I have my annual PCP visit today. I brought a list. Isn’t aging great?
I need to make an eye doctor appointment because all of a sudden this year I can’t see when driving at night, just like my grandparents, lol. I’m not ready for readers but that’s probably close too.

Preschool program was fab! We sat front row. Some lady behind us was so mad that we got the front row. Sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️ I waited an hour and was first in line.
Now I’m sitting at home, waiting until after my lunch hour to log in. The new cat is kind of a weirdo about blankets - she won’t touch them or lay on them. I put a blanket on my lap, she hopped up on me and furiously made biscuits, and now has her fuzzy self all bundled up on the blanket. Glad she seems to be getting over the weirdness.

The would be a nope from me. Unfortunately we are on a budget and I don’t I could reasonably buy last minute gifts for that many people.
In fact, DH just texted me this morning to say his work wants to do a secret Santa on Christmas. Really guys? 5 days before Christmas is not the time to throw that out there!
Patsy Baloney, I will never understand why people get mad about seats someone else got. Like you can only be mad at yourself for letting someone get their earlier than you? It's so weird!
I have so much to do and don't know where to start. Really I need to finish getting teacher gifts together, but I'm starting to feel they're super lame and so I'm procrastinating here. I made little snack bags with a $5 gift card and had intended to give them earlier in the week but never got it together, and now I feel like a snack bag is weird to bring home lol. I hate gift giving it really stresses me out.
I also ordered Hs big gift from home Depot on 12/5, it said it was backordered and would be delivered 12/15-19. It still just says backordered with no other update so I don't think I'm getting it anytime soon.
I follow a facebook page for Elf on the Shelf ideas.
1. People are out of control. Look, if you love it, I love it for you. But holy shit people are for real spending HOURS gluing individual pieces of cereal to a tube so they can make it look like cereal is pouring out of a high cabinet. And making 8 pounds of dyed spaghetti noodles to fill their bathtub. I do not have this kind of energy, ever, but especially not in December when I'm running on fumes at all times anyway.
2. The way people are freaking out over their 9, 10, and 11 year old children figuring out that it's the parents is surprising to me. I mean, understand being sad at the end of an era, but people are posting about how youtube is RUINING CHRISTMAS bc their kid found videos of parents doing the set up. Only to find out that the kid is approaching middle school. He probably has known for years and is just humoring you, Susan.
Overall 90% of the people in that group need to take some deep breaths, but I get a sick enjoyment out of it so I can't quite leave.
