I'm all for SUV. There are some really nice cross overs out there. They give you a bit more room than a sedan. We had a Nissan Rogue that we loved. It was AWD and handled awesome in the snow.
I can't vote because I'm torn. I'd like for US to get a compact SUV crossover because we do want to get a dog someday and we want a medium-sized one. However, if you take Sammy anywhere, he's small enough that he's fine in a Sedan. I prefer sedans for a daily car, don't they get better gas mileage, too?
Sara, you might have the same problem that I do with compact SUVs, so make sure you pay attention during a test drive, but IMO those cars weren't made for short people.
I tried the Kia Sportage and I couldn't see out of the back windows. The only compact suv I've been comfortable driving is the Nissan Rogue.
I'd say because you are driving over a mountain pass to visit your family go with the SUV... I like how they handle on the road over a sedan in bad road conditions.
