C just tested positive this morning for the first time ever. I’m so sad. And overwhelmed by the sheer number of things I have to figure out. I’m room mom for the class party tomorrow. We’re hosting Christmas Day for 18 people. My FIL is supposed to drive 500 miles tomorrow and stay with us until the 27th.
Noooo!!! I'm sorry. I know so many people getting Covid right now. DD1 had it last week but luckily the rest of us didn't get it. My SIL has it for the first time right now too (and possibly the kids, too young for rapid tests so they aren't sure yet). It sucks, especially the timing. We all had the flu at Xmas last year. I feel like the last few years, either Thanksgiving or Xmas (or both) have been ruined by illness. It is so hard to plan anything.
I hope C gets better quickly and you can salvage some holiday plans. Both times my kids have had it, it was super mild for them so hopefully that is true for you guys too.
It's so challenging how much pressure is on this stretch of time, from Thanksgiving to New Years, and how much illness is circulating concurrently. I wish we could move at least one major holiday and plunk it in the opposite time of year when gatherings are outside and respiratory illness burden is lower.
I’m sorry. DS gave DH and me covid last week. It was DHs first time and DS and my second time. It was over quickly for all of us. DD1 also had severe tonsillitis that wasn’t strep, but was some sort of awful infection. And DD2 had strep for Thanksgiving. It’s a nasty soup of germs out there. I hope your kid is feeling better quickly.

I hope she feels better soon and the rest of you stay healthy. My dd has it too, but we are hoping for a negative test by Christmas Eve, which will be day 8 for her. She feels fine now.
First I wanted to say I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Can you go to the party as room mom, masked? But for hosting, that may be out of the question.
Covid for Christmas should definitely be the title of the next Hallmark movie.
That really stinks!! Sorry. Maybe some plans can be salvaged or rescheduled. I don’t even know what the rules are supposed to be anymore. It’s so hard to navigate.

Honestly, my kid would be absolutely devastated if I went to her class Christmas party and she didn’t. I would have if it couldn’t happen without me but, thankfully, some other moms jumped right in.
Ugh, I'm sorry hermione. That is such a huge bummer. I hope it passes quickly for C and no one else tests positive.
Also you just convinced me to cancel plans I had to go to a very busy indoor space tomorrow with a friend. Everyone I know is getting ill and I just cannot afford to bring that into my house before Christmas.
We’ve salvaged what we can. Moved Christmas hosting to the 30th. FIL coming up next weekend instead of this one. And other moms really stepped up for the class party. We moved a tv into C’s room - something I told her would never happen - until she tests negative. And I let her open a Christmas present today, lol.

DS was invited to a classmate's bday party at Chuck E Cheese last Sat, and I confess I declined the invite entirely for this reason. 9 days before Christmas? I felt a little bad, but nope nope nope.

Good call. We went to Chuck E Cheese in early November and 3 out of 4 of us ended up sick within days. That place is such a cess pool of germs.
We had a COVID Thanksgiving and it was honestly pretty good. It was nice to spend time with just the three of us and I was able to grocery shop before I got it and cook before I was too sick. I hope it goes the same for you.
I'm sorry! We have a covid Christmas last year. It was rough even though in hindsight, it was okay because everyone was okay in the end/no one got really, really sick (including my elderly parents). I hope you and your family make it through with ease and salvage some holiday fun.
I'm on the opposite side of the world now where Christmas IS in the middle of summer and strangely enough there was still A LOT of covid going around right before school let out.
hermione G has it too but so far the rest of us are still negative. She had a low-mid range fever for 2 days and then was fine. Had to miss the last 1.5 days of the semester. She did really well with being confined to her room for 5 days until the last day when she started to lose it. Fortunately she was able to do a 2 hour video chat with her BFF and that helped. Today she was out of her room and masked and playing with her sister again. We don't travel til the 26th so as long as the rest of us stay negative that trip won't be messed up.
Also was kicking myself for not ordering more free tests. We had one box left. Need to go buy more. Also I recently threw out all the cloth masks we owned because we didn't need them. Well lo and behold this child will only wear cloth masks, can't stand the "smell" of the others. Luckily a friend had one left she gave us.
Also I read that studies show kids are contagious for an average of 3 days vs 5. Found that reassuring.
Also I effin hate winter. We have a loooooooong winter break and then lots of days off in Jan and Feb. I WANT to take the kids fun places but don't want the germ exposure.

I hate winter sickness! At work we've had influenza, COVID, people exposed to the work person with COVID, people whose family at home have COVID, strep, and people who had to run home because their spouse called that the baby and toddler are both barfing nonstop and they need backup immediately.
I masked all week and so far so good...... It will be a Christmas miracle if we all make it through the next week without getting sick. It seems worse than last year but COVID wastewater data alone doesn't support that in my area.
I tested positive on the 12th (second year in a row getting COVID in December) but again, both H and DD stayed negative. And miracle of miracles I had two negative tests on days 6 and 8, so I could stop masking at home! I hope her illness isn't too rough on you all, and I am so glad you are able to salvage a bunch of stuff.

Merry Christmas Eve to all of the other Covid families. I hope you all have the best possible day under the circumstances! My MIL is pressuring us to still come to the party today. One kid is on day 8, tested her, and a super faint line is still coming up if you hold it in the light and squint. Not too concerning. Unfortunately her sister is on day 5 and still getting a dark positive. Both dh and I are negative and feel fine. We decided against going to the party, despite all the pressure from family. There are several older people with major health issues that will be there, we would feel terrible if we got them sick. It sucks even more because we missed last year due to a blizzard travel ban. I think we are going to make gingerbread houses, watch movies, go in our hot tub, and just enjoy hanging out with the 4 of us. It will be a laid back day but hopefully still kind of fun.

I feel you on how bad it sucks being the ones to do the right thing. We ‘only’ have flu in the house, and multiple family members aren’t too thrilled with us canceling things because they’re “sure it’s fine.” Uh huh. We would feel so bad if we got the older family members sick.
Trying to get on board with the laid back plans here too! I think it will be nice, just an adjustment to wrap my head around.
Just coming in to join the misery. My husband tested positive on the 21st. I've been single momming it since. He came down yesterday and today a bit, masked. I got zero Christmas presents today because he sucks at giving them, procrastinated, and didn't even Amazon anything. He's normally very thoughtful with everything EXCEPT gift giving.
