I’m working. I have a very repetitive schedule, and every other Thursday is packed. It happens to be today. I have things on my calendar at 8, 9, 10, noon, 1, 2, 3, and 4. Granted, many of these are time block reminders, things like timesheets. But, for reasons, many are shown as busy, not free. Who looks at someone’s availability on a day like that, 3 days after Christmas, and thinks “oh, I’ll schedule something with them at 11?! Am I the only person that would look at the person’s availability and think “maybe I should give them a break and pick another day?”
My 27 year old gaming friend came over last night and fixed our new computer. Just needed some drivers updated. Of course, there were several comments made about knowing he’d have to be IT support for old people someday, just expected it to be his own parents. Oh, and “my grandma has some of those”. And “of course you have 2 dozen champagne glasses in the basement, every mom does.”
See and last Thursday I went through my calendar and canceled any recurring meetings for this week so anyone who is working knows it’s not happening since I’m on leave.
rubytue, is this the same younger friend who was kind of rude about your attempt at making Danish pastry or something like that? He doesn't sound like a great friend.
We got back yesterday from visiting my family for Christmas. It was a really nice trip for the most part. My niece and nephew just adore me, which makes it so fun to visit because I adore them too so we always have a great time. The rest of my family was good to see too - including my sister who I haven't seen in 2 years. She brought her little dog that she just got over the summer, and he's basically the cutest dog I've ever seen. He's some kind of poodle mix and his face looks unreal how cute it is. He's also very sweet.
Predictably, there was a little drama with that sister on the last night. She's suffering from pretty bad gastroparesis currently so not feeling well most of the time, so there was kind of an excuse for it now, but she's acted like this for like 20 years so my family is kind of over it. I actually felt bad for my sister because it was in reaction to something my parents (unintentionally) did, and she was right that it was thoughtless, but the level of reaction is always too much. You always have to walk on eggshells a bit around her because she gets easily upset. It sucks. All that said, I also got teary hugging her goodbye because with her health the way it is who knows if or when I'll ever see her again.
In other dumb news, my other sister and I got scammed trying to buy tickets to the Eras tour yesterday, so that was fun. Someone in her closed neighborhood Facebook group, who she has mutual friends with, posted that she had tickets for sale for face value in a pretty good section. We sent over payment for two of the four tickets, since we had agreed to send half and once both parties saw all was good, send the rest. Of course after we sent payment she claimed that you can't split the ticket order and had to send all four at once, so please send the rest of the money. That set off the first alarm bells so we did NOT send more money, but we are pretty sure the $800 we sent is gone. She sent the money through Venmo but I guess didn't realize that you could do payment protection. How lame! I am so tired of having to watch for a scam with every single thing you do. We assume that the actual person's account got hacked and so it wasn't actually her that posted - but they are also going to file a police report just in case. My sister has been super stressed out about a lot of things lately so I hate that she now has to deal with this too.
Back to work today and I'm kicking myself for not taking the entire week. Oh well. Over half of my team is off all week, so I really will have nothing to do. Going to take my time cleaning up email and then coast the rest of the day.
I have dinner plans with my high school girlfriends tonight. It's been years since we've all gotten together (pre Covid, at least) and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. I've seen most of them separately or in small groups, but every time we try and get together there is at least a couple people who aren't available. This is the first time we have all been free on the same day.
I’m in the office today, and thank God. The amount of effort I have had to undertake to occupy myself for the past few days has been unbelievable. I’m going to absolutely suck at being retired.

Haha yes. We just smack talk each other. I give it back, too. Really, the only one that actually bothered me was when he picked up my chin hair spring off my desk (he was fixed the computer there), and said his grandmother has a bunch of them.
I’m on a ski trip with my oldest and it’s our last day. It’s pouring and 45 degrees and the snow was patchy at best yesterday so I opted not to ski and save my lift ticket for another trip. DS is at his lesson since it’s already paid for and he doesn’t need much snow for his skill lol. But now I’m just sitting in the lodge feeling like a lame lump on the log even though deep down I know $90 for 2 hours of bad and rainy skiing is not worth it. And at my age I can’t ski in bad conditions and risk an injury lol.
Damn you global warming. Christmas skiing in NY used to be a sure thing. 😞
Also—DS1 is such a lovely travel buddy. How lucky am I?

I worked yesterday and today and then I’m off till next Thursday and I only work Thursday next week.
My mom is here which is great cause she helps out around the house and obviously loves hanging out with our daughter. Win win for all!
I think I kind of want to surprise my partner with a trip for his birthday. I lost me and my daughter’s passport and hers came back in about 3 weeks and I recently sent mine in, so hopefully it won’t take long. But I don’t think I’ll feel comfortable starting to plan till I have it in my hands. I think Feb will be perfect timing to want to get away somewhere warm and relaxing!

RIP, Zulily. I will miss Zulily - I got some good deals on clothing and shoes.
Working today, and I feel like I'm behind on the list of things that need to get done in the 3 workdays this week. I have made progress on cleaning up the files on my desktop, though. (I am that person that has a million files on their desktop.)
This weekend I need to make a dent in decluttering. It always feels so daunting to even start. I know I just need to break it into smaller tasks, like one drawer/closet/room at a time. I love making lists, ha ha, so maybe if I just write a list of all the tasks, that will help me 1) get started and 2) feellike I am making progress even if it is in small steps.
We are only on day 3 of winter break and I've already booked trips for February and spring break because the idea of sitting here trying to entertain my child at home is killing me inside. The lacknof sports for him this week has done him in and the weather sucks and he has too much energy.

I feel the same. And I had one last order that I am pretty sure I didn't get all of, but I'm not going to get in line with their creditors over $30 of kids' clothing that it's possible H brought inside and stashed somewhere "safe".

The same thing just happened with concert tickets in my neighborhood Facebook. Sorry it happened to you also!
I had some kind of virus at Thanksgiving that lingered for weeks and now I had Covid over Christmas. New job and no time so I have been struggling through the work day at home. I was supposed to work from home this week and it was going to be great. It was going to be easy and a way to reset my schedule, start working out a little with son to get ready for skiing. Husband was off the Friday before Christmas and he was going to go to son's Christmas pageant and we were going to have a whole weekend of Christmas lights, shopping and Christmas activities. It's all been shot to hell. Husband got it first so he was mostly better by Christmas Day but he has to be up at 5 and has a long commute so the cough is lingering. Again. He has pretty much been coughing since 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. He has been to the doctor 3 different times and gotten 3 different rounds of prescriptions. I am so angry and sad for us. Today I am basically in a rage. Son has miraculously been spared both times so there is light in this darkness.
We looked at washers and dryers at Home Depot last night, but ended up ordering from Costco for like $200 less, and they can deliver them on Saturday so I won’t need to use a laundromat or my in-laws, my kids may just need to wear pjs for a couple days, lol.

My older nephew's wife and I get along really well (nephews and I are the same age, she has come to visit me in Chile), so we planned an outing to an indoor play place for our two families yesterday and were so excited to see each other. She ended up puking all Tues night, so we pushed to tomorrow hoping it was something she ate, but now one of her kids is sick! We're so bummed, we didn't see each other on Christmas due to my half sister's BS, and now we're just hoping to get some time in before we go back to Chile. Stupid germs!
Also, L is bored out of his mind with the bad weather, so the play place was really going to help burn some energy.
Last night, I crouched down ti get something out of a lower cabinet on the buffet. And something in my knee went ouch! I wouldn’t say I felt something pop exactly, but it was a sudden ouch. The kind of thing that usually hurts of a short bit, the recovers. When I was going to bed, I still couldn’t bend of straitened my leg all the way, and it’s still annoying today. So yeah, I guess I am a grandma.

New day, new outlook. The past few days are put me through the wringer.
I treated myself to Starbucks before work and so far so I'm having a good day. January can't come fast enough so I can rip off the bandaid and start the process of moving on.

It's 28th night, nearly midnight, and I had an awful time getting a grab car (regional version of Uber) earlier. It finally connected a driver who cancelled halfway into the 3 times as normal long wait.
You'd think being smack in the middle of the big western holidays, both of which aren't really much of a big deal locally (mostly Muslim and the other prevailing ethnicity celebrates lunar new year) it would be relatively calm.
My parents bought theater tickets for themselves and my kids as a Christmas present without realizing that the date overlapped the one day this week my sister has to work and they'd offered to watch her kids. I'm still off work, so I offered to babysit so they didn't have to pay more to switch the tickets to a different day. The plan was that I would come over at 3:00 to drop off my kids and babysit the little guys until my sister gets off work at 5:00. Somehow that has morphed into us coming over at 10:00 this morning and spending the whole day there before the show. I love spending time with all of them, but we also got together yesterday and are going to a "Noon Year's Eve" party as a group on Sunday.

Ruby I am sorry to tell you I would definitely schedule something then if it showed as open on your calendar. I assume any open time is open since I am not a mind reader and the whole purpose of outlook calendars is showing availability.

I'm back to work today and tomorrow and then off for a 3 day weekend. I should have taken off lol. It's expectedly slow today so far, so that is good. I'm catching on the 50 billion phone calls from people who needed assistance NOW on the Friday before Christmas. I made sure to weed out the "emergent" calls and take care of them before I left on Friday, but the other stuff had to wait.

Is Zulily no more? I hadn't heard anything about this, and I'm pretty sure I have 'store credit' there from a return...Whoops.
I have a cousin on my dad's side who is certified in trading cryptocurrency, and now her FB page is all these fake photoshopped success stories where these couples are $380K debt-free. The latest one is so obvious. There is no way this couple knows my cousin.
No one interacts with the posts; I think her friends are being mid-west nice by saying nothing. But I'm waiting to see her news about buying a brand new house or getting out of debt. It hasn't happened yet. I feel bad.
We were invited to a game night tomorrow and it's just what I wanted! I'm really looking forward to it.
I got my hair colored and cut yesterday. A lovely peaceful 1.5 hours. Now my hair is closer to my original hair color so she can put blonde and red highlights in it next. I've gotten so used to color that my regular dark brown is boring. :-p
I LOVE my pixie bob! I am so glad I took the plunge and got it cut short! I have no plans to let it grow out in the near future. My next idea is to try curtain bangs. I grew my bangs out when I was 10 so it's been a long while since I've had hair on my forehead.
Another day to keep DS entertained and off the tv. He has reading tutoring at 10am. At least H has a 4 day weekend starting tomorrow. I'm ready to go back to work and get DS back to school.
I’m laughing at the OP because literally everyone in my organization, including me, would look at that calendar and think, “Oh good, she’s got time at 11.”
My FIL is driving in today until Sunday and we’re hosting my family Christmas Saturday. COVID delayed everything by a week but I’m happy to carry on now.

FIs daughter got moved in this weekend and things are going mostly well, except this morning she was up at 4 am and cooked breakfast. She said it's because she wanted to get up before me and let the dogs out so they didn't wake me. Except it woke me and the dogs came and went because she was up. The dogs sleep with me and I leave my door open so they can come and go. We'll have to find our routine and what works.
