For those using weight loss injectables, how have you changed your diet since starting? Was that part difficult? Also, have many experienced constipation? How have you dealt with that?
I’m new to this, just took my 6th shot of mounjaro. I did have bad constipation the first week. I started taking Metamucil and Senokot. I took 2 pills of each/day, that is the beginning dose. It’s like I won’t go to the bathroom for 5ish day, and then go 3-4 times in one day. I take the day I go off from the meds.
ETA: Also drinking a ton of water, but I always did that.
Your post reminded me that I did have constipation at first. I took miralax for maybe two weeks and stepped the dose down as things evened out. I also just had to get used to having to go way less and having less ahem volume. I have found drinking a lot of water to be really helpful as well.... If I'm traveling and don't drink as much I notice.

I did not change my diet per say; I just eat a fraction of what I did before. Nothing is "off limits" I just feel satiated with a few bites, so I do not need more, you know?
As for constipation, I find that the first few days after the shot I have the opposite problem, but then the last few days before the next shot I have constipation. I have it figured out pretty well now and I take MiraLAX and eat prunes and that seems to do the trick, lol.
I had some really unpleasant side effects from my last shot (10mg) after being on that does for months with no issues. My endocrinologist suggested that I spread out my shot days from every 7 days to every 10 days. I take it tomorrow and I'm really hoping that my side effects will have gone away or are greatly diminished.
I'm still losing but not as rapidly and I'm ok with that. I have diabetes and my main concern has been blood sugar stabilization. But a 58 pounds loss is also really nice, too.
I had a similar issue just one time after 5 doses of no issues. It was terrible, to the point that I went to the ED. I was nervous to do the next shot but never had those issues again. Fingers crossed it is the same for you!
Related to the IUD post, have any of you had bleeding/period changes on the injections? It's a common thread on the Mounjaro Reddit and I definitely have.
YES IT IS SO ANNOYING! I had no periods with my IUD until I started losing weight. Fortunately they are light periods.

Diet is the same I just smaller portions and fewer snacks. I take two colace daily to help keep things moving

On the subject of "weird and unexpected side benefits of this class of medication", my mom has no colon due to cancer so she struggles with constant diarrhea. Ozempic has been life changing for her because it helps her have normal bowel movements and allows her to have a more normal level of urgency vs having bathroom emergencies when not on the med.
Her insurance covered it for about a year but once she lost weight they stopped covering it. So now she is paying out of pocket.

I always ate pretty healthfully, but I’m definitely more mindful. I’ve incorporated a lot more high fiber options such as beans and 7-10 servings of fruits/veggies a day to keep things regular.
I’ve always leaned to a fairly plant based diet and have made that an even higher priority. It keeps things regular without issue and has environmental impacts as well.

I just passed the 1 year mark on Wegovy. Down 65 pounds. 21% of my total body weight lost per my NP. For whatever reason I've been starving this week and eating (and drinking) everything in sight, but overall things have gone well. I'm an odd bird and instead of the constipation most people have I get diarrhea. Regardless it's definitely been worth dealing with to lose this weight.
No supply issues (I've been on 2.4 since the summer) and my provider orders my prescriptions 3 months at a time, but our insurance (I work for a health care company) has done some funky things as of the first of the year that feels like their starting to make their employees jump through fiery hoops to stay on the medication. At least in the short term I will have to switch providers which I am not happy about, but at least it's still covered so I won't complain too much.

I've been on Mounjaro since Sept 2022. Luckily my insurance started covering it right as the coupon ran out in July last year, so I've been doing 3 month fills ever since just in case they change their mind lol. Currently at 15mg and down 122 pounds, and only have about 10 pounds left until I hit my goal weight. Trying to figure out the best way to shift to maintenance once I do...thinking maybe every 2 weeks?
I haven't had any major side effects, but sometimes I feel nauseated for the first day or two after taking a shot. I have entirely lost my ass, however, and need to start doing some weight training to get it back.
Still on compounded Trizepetide but I didn't refill this last time. Its okay but not as good as the real thing. I have a little appetite suppression for a few days. I've lost a couple of pounds but nothing amazing. I am getting my labs done tomorrow and have an appt with my endo on Monday so I'm going to ask for a Zepbound RX. Unfortunately my insurance does not cover weight loss meds so I'll have to use the coupon and pay the $550 or however much it is.

I've been on compounded semaglutide injections (paying $300 a month) since mid-December and have lost 10 lbs, with 30 more to go. I consider this a big win considering I normally gain weight over the holidays. The only really noticeable side effect for me has been fatigue, but I have also been sick with SOMETHING since a week after I started it. First stomach bug, then never ending cold/sinus/cough thing. So I haven't worked out very much which I don't like, and hoping to have more energy once I kick this illness for good. Also getting almost daily diarrhea but it's not bothersome.

I was known in my friend group for having a juicy booty (my social media name on all other platforms, lol) and without a doubt I have lost the entirety of it. So sad.

Girl, I was so mad. "HOW DID I LOSE MY ENTIRE BACKSIDE AND 3/4 OF MY TITTIES BUT I STILL HAVE A GUT THIS WAS NOT THE DEAL."

right?! I still have quite the belly, but my ass, total pancake. Not cool.
I switched back to semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) compounded. I was on 5mg tirzepatide was so expensive to get the higher doses of tirzepatide. I wasn't really losing on the 5mg. I was stagnant at 10# higher than my lowest weight on semaglutide. I started back at 1mg semaglutide and didn't have any issues transitioning to it. I did 4 weeks at 1mg and then increased to 1.7mg. I'll start that next week. I've already lost 5#.
I’ve lost about 25 pounds since last January on Wegovy, which isn’t nothing but….I’d like to have lost more. I’ve definitely hit a stall these last few months, and I’m on the highest dose. It just doesn’t feel as effective anymore.
I’d love to switch to Zepbound, but my insurance won’t cover it unless I try three other meds first.
I have an appointment with my endocrinologist & rheumatologist to discuss if the risks of the meds still outweigh the benefits for me (I had non cancerous thyroid nodules removed ). Apparently ozempic has promising results for people with rheumatoid arthritis so that would be 2 birds with 1 stone!
I am nervous about side effects & med shortages though
I had to stop Ozempic due to the cost and diminishing effects because my dr was keeping me on the 1.0 dose. No side effects. But now all the weight has come back. I need to find a way to get it cheaper. This sucks. I loved the feeling of being in control of what I ate and not feeling the uncontrollable urge to binge.
I have Mounjaro in my fridge and am waiting for my husband to get his vasectomy next month before I start taking it. I'm excited and hope this works for me.
jamie.1022, a pro tip I wish I'd taken advantage of: if your insurance only covers it once a month and you don't plan to take it for a month is to get another package when you can. Being a box ahead saves you stress when shortages mean it takes forever to refill.
So my doctor prescribed me Wegovy yesterday. My insurance requires a preauthorization before approving it, but Walgreens already told me they are out and don’t know when they will get it back. They also said none of the other nearby Walgreens have it either. How long does it normally take to find it? I am on the lowest dose (0.25). Hoping my insurance approves it and it comes back in stock soon.

oh man, I think it varies. I know places around here have been out of the low doses for almost a year.

Are you on the compounded version? I would go to another doctor, possibly a weight loss clinic, and see if you can get what you need.

I called at least 15-20 pharmacies (Southeastern Mass) last month (Costco, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Big Y) and none of them had it or had any idea when they would get it in stock. I also contact Caremark which is mail order and they said they were out of the starter dose. I was able to verify that my insurance covered zepbound and the Big Y said they could order it so I had my doctor change the prescrition that instead of Wegovy. They sent the prior authorization and it was approved right away and filled the next day.

I’m going to look into it. I’m on a HDHP so even though I may be able to get it covered for a month or two, I’m still paying the negotiated rate which is essentially full price

I pay less than $40 a week for 4.5 units of 2.4 mg/mL compounded semaglutide. One vial should last me 10 weeks. If I were to increase my dosage, it would be more expensive due to me using more and running out faster, but I feel like I’ll be on this dose for awhile.

So I got approved via insurance so I put a request for home delivery through Optum RX. They don’t say anything online about it being out of stock just that they need a new script from my doctor. Doctor already sent it in so fingers crossed. If this works it will only be $40 for a 3 month supply of meds.

I haven't read the thread yet, so pardon me.
I am currently still on MJ 5mg and have been since September 1st (started at 2.5mg on 7/21/23). I have lost 37.5lbs to date, and am at what I would consider a sort-of-stall. I'm not NOT losing, but it has slowed down considerably. I am fully aware that there are lots of factors that come into play here, so I'm not really upset or anything. I have lost a good amount in a fairly short amount of time, so I'm very pleased with where I am. I had been sent a letter from my insurance company threatening to not cover after 12/1/23, so I had my PCP write me for the next higher dose (7.5mg) so it would at least buy me 3 more months. Then right before 12/1, I was able to get another 3 month refill of 5mg, so I am finishing that up before I increase my dosage. Then at the beginning of this month, just throwing a dart, I requested a refill of the 7.5mg even though I hadn't started it yet. Lo and behold, it was covered! I asked my PCP if she had to do a PA or anything, but she didn't say one way or another. So I have no idea what happened, but I'm not asking any questions! LOL
I've been very lucky that I've had no supply issues - I may have had to wait 2-3 days once, but Costco has been able to get the meds consistently and I've never had to miss any doses.
I'm hopeful that once I up my dosage that I'll start losing more steadily again, since I've been hovering at the same number up and down for a few weeks now. I am nervous, however, to experience more intense side effects that come with increasing dosage. What are everyone's experiences with increasing dosages? My body has definitely gotten used to this dosage, however, so I know it will again.
