Another school snow day here, called at like 6pm last night- our forecast got upped a couple of inches overnight, and even the federal govt did a 2-hr delayed arrival, though I'm already scheduled to telework anyway. The kids still have dentist appts this morning though (SO glad DH handles dentist/ortho, I do the pedi and optometrist), sorry kids!
Looking forward to a weekend hunkered down at home, we were away last weekend and I'm away with a couple of friends next weekend. I need some time to do some cleaning out and reorganizing.
I’m letting the kids play hooky today. They have half days due to weather, and it’s annoying to get them out the door just for a few hours. I’m still not driving and I don’t want to walk all over town to pick them up. My 4 year old and I both slipped on ice yesterday because neighbors can’t bother to shovel their sidewalks properly.

Finally Friday! It feels like it has been such a long week. Probably doesn't help that January always feels like the longest month ever.
DH just got us a cheap indoor sauna, so I'm going to give it a try this weekend. The heating unit is steam heat, so it will be nice to help my skin not be so dry.

Elearning day here for my 3. We live on a hill and the younger 2 are so excited to get out and start sledding. Normally elearning work is just a couple hours for DD (11), but her math teacher scheduled a zoom for 1pm. Class work will post by 9am, so she'd be done before lunch if not for this. The ranting I'm hearing from her is too much this early though.

I went thrifting last night and I bought a painting that turns out to be worth several hundred dollars. I'm not necessarily a "reseller" but I have sold stuff here and there, mostly stuff I pick up at Estate Sales which funds my antiques habit. I've been doing a lot of work on my house and if I sell it, the proceeds would cover a good portion of my new doors, so I'm pretty excited about this find.

DS was very bummed not to have a snow day today. It hasn’t started yet but we are supposed to get a few inches before the end of the school day. Our superintendent is very sensitive to the fact that a lot of the kids in our district have parents who are essential workers, so she keeps the schools open unless it is dangerous for the kids to get there (we are in a city where most kids walk to school). I appreciate her thought process and all the work she does for our kids. My kid just wants a day to lay around and maybe play in some snow.
I WFH today and have a morning full of meetings but am so happy to be working from home where all of my tech works. My external mouse and keyboard at work died on Wednesday, and I’m waiting for replacements.
I'm so glad it's Friday- why are short weeks the longest?
I watched American Nightmare without having any knowledge of the case (at least that I could recall). It did not help me feel great about law enforcement (well, Misty is pretty awesome, but the rest of them can fuck off). And the media! Such a horrible story.
I am a broken record, my kids are out of school today. That brings them up to a total of 4 school days for 2024 so far. We are doing great. Can't get into any sort of routine. The only routine we know is slothing around.
I am taking the afternoon off. I can't handle working and mild childcare any longer.

We went out with FI's cousin and her husband last night. It was nice to be social for a change. I tried my first grilled oyster, the flavor was good, but I didn't like the texture.
I truly hate having a winter birthday. I think as I've gotten older it's made me care even less about it because 99% of the time it's cold and miserable.
My kid is all excited because it's tomorrow, which is a Saturday, which is a HUGE DEAL for her, but I'm just like "let's hope it doesn't snow."
One day I'll be somewhere tropical on my birthday. Covid ruined 40, maybe 45.
Another snow day here, so no school all week for DS. He has midterms next week and I fear he's not going to do as well since this would have been a review week. Yesterday all the review materials were posted online so he can review himself, but getting him to study is a battle.
I'm going a bit stir crazy. I ordered groceries yesterday for pickup and was going to go pick them up, but then H offered since he needed to pick up a prescription. I wasn't necessarily looking forward to driving in the terrible weather (I really hate driving in snow, ever since I was in a bad car accident in a storm when I was 21). But I was looking forward to getting out of the house. Today the weather seems better so hopefully by this afternoon the roads will be cleaned up (we just got our first plow down our street since Monday) and I can venture out to Target and the library.

Same, friend. My birthday is early February and I could write this exact same thing. As a kid I remember my birthday parties being poorly attended, postponed or cancelled due to a storm. I always said I wanted to be on a beach with a frozen cocktail for my 40th and Covid was in full force February of 2021. We are going to Austin this year for my birthday, so nothing tropical, but at least it's something to look forward to. And hopefully the weather will be a little warmer than NY. LOL
It's cute your daughter is excited for your birthday. I hope you have a fun weekend celebrating!
Oy my commute and dropping kid off at school was not fun. Everybody and their brother decided to drop kids off today so the drop off line was WAY backed up and we sat in it for a much longer time than normal. Heard on the radio about multiple accidents on the expressway that I typically take so I decided to take side streets and of course so did everyone else LOL. Normally the whole endeavor is about 40 minutes and today it took an hour and a half. I'm glad I leave at 4 on Fridays so I won't be in that mess with everyone else at 5. I hate winter
After I dropped off kid I realized she left her water in the car but for sure wasn't going back to drop it off. Guess who called me after I got to the office asking if I would bring it? LOL. Girl. NO.
I have a very light calendar today and we haven't got much planned this weekend and that pleases me greatly!

Omg these stories are my favorite. Did you see the one recently about the woman who bought a Murano glass vase at Goodwill that turned out to be worth like $100k? Wild.

I am always so amazed at these occurrences! lavenderblue, may I ask how you gained your knowledge to have an eye for these things?
I made tofu fajitas last night because I was craving Mexican and we're trying to eat healthier. It didn't satisfy my craving, so I'm eating nachos with all the cheese for breakfast. I will regret this later, but right now I'm happy 😊
Right after I finished making the nachos the power went out for scheduled maintenance. I don't realize how noisy our house is until we lose power. No air purifiers or space heaters, no hum from the fridge, no water noise from the fish tank. It's so quiet... I can hear my neighbor (who is apparently quite upset lol) and the wind and the dogs in the townhouse at the far end of our row.

This morning has been an absolute dumpster fire. Starting with missing my workout this morning due to needy kids at 5:30am, to DD falling down the stairs and hurting her knee, with everything that could go wrong in between.
Of course I have a packed day ahead of me too, just over it all
I got a little more sleep. I had a few mindful moments so that I could get it together this morning and not be all panicked. I guess starting Wellbutrin has helped! 😂
More snow! We were able to finally get off the block yesterday afternoon briefly before it re-froze and now it’s snowing again. We went over 700 days without snow so we’d grown complacent. At least we don’t have to go anywhere and most places close here at the sight of a single flake anyway.
Has anyone renewed a US passport recently? The internet is saying 6-8 week standard turnaround, does that seem accurate?
My parents are renewing theirs today, and debating paying to expedite. They have ~10 weeks before potentially needing to travel.
ETA: they decided to expedite them. I haven’t committed to visiting them yet, but the idea that a delay would mean I can’t was too much risk for their grandparent hearts. Now I guess I have to suck it up and pay for overpriced flights 🙃
