I remember seeing a post on here a while back about prolapse and it prompted me to speak to my gyno. After a referral I meet with a urogynecologist and yeah... not great news.
PDQ this part I have bladder, uterine and rectal prolapse. I need a partial hysterectomy (leaving the ovaries) and mesh slings to hold the organs after surgery. He said my muscles are actually fairly strong so it's nothing PT would help. My mom also has a history of this.
I really liked the Dr, but I guess I should get a second opinion?
Any experiences are helpful. Will my periods mostly go away? Trying to find the bright side...
Please do some research on the mesh slings for people with your dx. I don't have prolapse, but I do have complicated pelvic pain and belong to associated social media groups, so I see comments from a lot of different people. I realize that the majority of posts on SM are going to be from people who have complications or were not helped, but mesh is associated with an increase in pain in very many situations, necessitating further surgery or treatments (mesh can degrade over time, and adhere to abdominal tissues). I would want to be extra sure it is the best option in your case.

A friend recently had surgery for rectal prolapse and is really happy with the results. Apparently the mesh they use there is different from the problem vaginal mesh, FWIW.

If you don’t have a uterus your periods will go away. Periods happen because the lining of your uterus thickens to prep for a pregnancy and when that doesn’t happen it sheds off and you bleed. No uterus means no period. I Hope all goes well with your surgery! Definitely getting a second opinion Isn’t a bad idea.
My mom just had surgery to fix this-- uterine, bladder, and rectal prolapse. I don't think she had mesh for hers, but I think they used other tissue to hold things up. Her doctor described it to her as putting in a stitch or two at the top and "hoisting" things back up. She had to have a catheter for 2 weeks (may have been longer than needed since this was around the holidays). She's doing well now. She only needed tylenol afterwards, but it was really important for her to take senekot and colase. And to be sure to drink enough water.
