I’m envious of people who truly don’t need lotion! If you don’t feel you need it, what soap or body wash do you use? Maybe I need a change of product.
I don’t notice dry elbows on other people. I do notice dead flaky heel skin in sandal weather, and unkempt, untrimmed toenails with half chipped off polish. Ugh.
And thanks to this board, I notice ill fitting bras. I can’t count the numbers times I’ve wanted to say to someone “psst. You need a smaller band and a bigger cup.” It truly is life changing.

the grocery store or none? It's a big bottle I didn't purchase.
I realize a lot is due to my current environment, same temp and humid all year. But in other locations I've never been particularly worried about any body routine.
If you judge me from hundreds of meters away, I truly don't care. That's your problem. If I'm not uncomfortable or in pain, what's it to you? If I were working in a place with such judgment I'd do the effort even if I think it's dumb, but I'm not so I don't. I do think there's something like someone said above that if you use it more you need it more.
dexteroni, I feel like this might be more a product of where people live. I NEED lotion in the winter where I live, but in the summer it is more of a want because of the extra humidity in the air. My skin is still the same all year round lol. I definitely have a winter skincare regime that is far more moisturizing and structured and a summer routine that is much lighter. Also, the same for my hair.

I use bar soap, not super loyal to any particular one. Right now I'm using a white tea & mint one from a local shop. I do think not stripping too much oil with products or using too hot water can make a difference, but for me it's like 90% that I don't live in a dry climate, have steam heat in the winter, and that I'm naturally just so oily. It's really an issue in the summer when I'm wearing sunscreen and it will.not.soak.in and rubs off so easily. I am a greasy mess with blotchy sunburn.
I using moisturizer on my face religiously as part of my skincare routine. I am not as good about caring for the rest of my body. I kind of don't like the feel of it until it soaks in and I don't always have time to wait until I can get dressed. I go through phases with hand cream.
living in Colorado it's almost essential. I may not use lotion on my body daily, but I do use hand cream every day multiple times. Between handwashing in health care and eczema, my hands are a mess especially in winter.

Yes absolutely. Brown parents lol. They really make sure you know all about the importance of lotioning. My kids are also lotioned every single day and their face is multiple times.
Huh. Every so often I get some nice smelling lotion from a hotel or a friend and try to enjoy it by rubbing it on my legs or something, but it always just feels sticky and a waste of time and effort.
I've lived in a few climates and it's the same there. I only visited Denver but that's the one place I'd understand needing it.
As to soap, I don't really wash my legs if all I did was officework. If I work out or am in the yard or something I'll swipe them with some shampoo. My face I use cetaphil soap which is pretty mild.
Body lotion first, then it soaks in while you do other post-shower stuff before dressing.
But like what stuff? That would seem to suggest walking around naked or just in underwear which is definitely not happening.
Eta The last time this came up somebody suggested in shower moisturizer, I have to try that.
Brush hair, pick out outfit, deodorant, tweeze, face lotion, makeup. that's usually enough time for it to be in. And I don't wear makeup most days, so a couple minute is plenty for it to soak in

once again showing I'm way off from ml standards. I hate the feel of lotion in palms and soles. Tweezing is a rare thing (do people do this daily? I truly don't know). No makeup. Pants and a top is not an outfit. All you described is less than a minute.
I'm truly just surprised at what is apparently normal women stuff that has never been my situation.

I don't know if everyone is putting on more than me or I rub more vigorously (TWSS) or my skin is more thirsty (TWSS) or what, but, like, I pat my skin dry, apply the lotion, brush my teeth, and by the time I'm finished with that the lotion is absorbed and remaining water dampness is evaporated.

I feel like the lotion texture is important too. I used Aveeno for years previously and while I liked the results, it was definitely more gloopy and there was a longer wait before I could be-suit myself (and still a bit sticky).
I use Lubriderm currently and by the time I’ve brushed my teeth, put on a robe, gone to the bedroom and gotten some clothes (2-3 min?) I’m not gloopy.
I loved using the Neutrogena oil you’d put on right after showering before toweling off, but worried it was making my towels gross by getting them oily when I’d pat myself dry.
Just so you know, non-lotioners, we can tell. Even you fellow Caucasians.
Once you're in the lotion club, you have special ability to detect dry elbows at 300 yards. My poor kids have me following them around with lotion and sunscreen ranting about how "you'll thank me one day!" Like the paper boy in Better Off Dead.
Granted I’ve had 2 glasses of wine but I’m seriously chuckling at your first sentence.

I use thick Cetaphil/aquaphor/etc cream in the winter and their thin regular lotion in the summer. I lotion up, then put my robe on, put leave in conditioner in, brush my teeth, and put my face medicine and sunscreen on. Maybe 5 minutes to do that? Then go get dressed.
I realized I never answered my own poll. Prior to posting it, I have never been a body lotion person. Hands, face, and the one weird flaky spot on my lower belly were all liberally moisturized, but the rest of my body, not so much, unless it actually felt necessary.
I have since applied lotion twice a day, so about 3 weeks? And... I notice exactly zero differences, so I am giving up the extra effort.
