Long story short, Santa had to leave DS 8 a note that the golf clubs were too big* to fit in the sleigh and he would deliver them “after the rush.” DS was pretty bummed, as he had really been wanting the golf clubs.
Any suggestions on how to deliver the clubs? It’s a set, with a bag. Santa would have just left them in front of the tree, unwrapped. Was thinking of getting a large red bag. Leave it at the front door? Or where the tree would normally be?
Or have we messed this up that there is zero chance he will still be a believer next year?
*The real reason for delay is that we had called in a favor from a friend for a heavy discount and unfortunately there was a production issue and we weren’t able to get the clubs from that contact. It’s now February, no further update from friend, and we are headed golfing in March. We are just buying the clubs.
This might be silly, but I’d get a big shipping box and make a label showing it was shipped from the North Pole. Then have that whenever deliveries go. I don’t think Santa would make a trip at this time of year; he’d just ship it.
we had a similar issue with regards to a very late gift from Santa (production issue) that came a couple of weeks ago. We finally got it, I wrapped it in the santa wrapping paper we have and left a note from Santa that said "it looks like this fell off my sleigh while I was over Nepal! I know you asked for this and I am so sorry it is late. Rudolf says hi!"
He woke up in the morning with it out next to his kindle and lost his mind, he was so excited.
We did this too. DD1 didn't like her main gift (a HP Lego Set). I could tell she was unhappy so I asked if she wanted me to ask Santa if we could exchange it? I told her I can email Santa. She's on the cusp of not believing (age 8) but she seemed to accept it. I disappeared the set when she was asleep and a few weeks later a gift bag appeared in her room with the new gift and a note from Santa. She was so happy! I feel like she was so excited for the new gift she didn't question it too much. Or she's a good actor LOL.
I keep thinking she's going to say she doesn't believe in Santa and she asked me a few times before Xmas if he was real or not (I hedged with the "what do you think") but I don't think she's ready to give it up yet.
I would leave it wherever it would be easiest to sneak it in without making noise - for us that would be right outside our side door. You could get one of those giant red bows, maybe a gift tag that says "special Santa delivery" or something (there are a lot of free printables online)
If anything, this might make him believe MORE. My kids remember the times they got a special note or whatever from Santa.
I would wrap, and leave where the tree usually goes. Maybe hang some green streamers or something in that spot, to dress it up a bit. Or sprinkle red and green confetti on the ground. If you do Elf on the Shelf, you could also pull the elf out for the day with a note about how he/she was sent to delivery the clubs. What a fun surprise! I would play it up a little bit so it's a core memory. "Remember that time Santa brought my clubs in February, and also left me Valentine's Chocolate? And the Elf came back for 2 days?!"

You’re right. The sleigh isn’t in service. Nor his magical powers to get in our house.
They will come in a box, so I will see if I can find a sticker to have the box come from Santa/ North Pole.
Overall, I'd keep it as simple as possible. Sometimes more details=more questions.
I'm still on the side that Santa isn't going to randomly come inside your house unless it's Christmas time, so he should have it delivered to your porch somehow.
I would say something like "hey, Santa delivered these while you were at school. Look he left you a fun note" (if you feel like writing a note). I would just put them wherever is most convenient for you.

I get the whole Santa wouldn’t make a special trip argument - but if your kid is a sound sleeper I would wrap it in a fabric bag and stick it in bed with him with a note. I always used to put my kids Christmas pajamas on them while they were sleeping so they’d wake up Christmas morning in Christmas pjs - it was hysterical seeing their reactions. Although upon reflection an old guy changing their clothes in the dark of night probably wasn’t my best parenting move.
