I'm in CA. The first house did not come with a fridge, which we knew in advance as there wasn't one there. When we sold the old house, we left the fridge. We specified in our listing and contract all appliances that came with. When we sold the old house, we specified in the listing that the water softener and hall bathroom mirror were not included. We took the water softener, but apparently the wife loved the mirror as much as I did and when we gave them the chance to meet our highest offer, they raised their offer price $30k and requested the mirror. (It was a $400 mirror, I don't miss it *that* much.)
When we bought the new house, they left almost all appliances. They specified in the listing and contract exactly which appliances came with. (But the assholes took the mirrors, which specifically need to stay unless specifically excluded)

I'm in PA. I have purchased 3 houses and all 3 came with a fridge. I have also rented in the past - 2 houses and 1 apartment, and none of them came with a fridge, usually just a stove was the only appliance provided when I rented.
Yes, it is assumed all kitchen appliances stay. Refrigerator, oven/stove, dishwasher and built in microwave (not a countertop one) . If appliances Are not staying, it is stated in the listing.

City of Philadelphia, we live in a co-op, and we did have a fridge here, as well as a (harvest gold, not hooked up to gas) stove, and a dryer but no washer. I’m not really sure what Ferdinand, the previous owner, ate or how he washed his clothes.
DC area (I’ve bought and sold in bath VA and MD) fridges stay with the house. My family’s friend moved from TN to DC proper and commented that he ended up with two fridges, because in TN the fridge moved with you, and in DC the fridge stayed with the house. I can see both sides, on the one hand, it just plugs in and is not attached to the house, on the others, it’s a real pain to move. Our washers, dryers, and sometimes upright freezers stay, too.
Moved from CA to CT a couple years ago, the people we bought our new house from left their fridge behind but they included it as a "perk", it didn't come with the house if that makes sense. And now it's our basement fridge so it worked out just fine.

Upstate NY - Unless excluded, appliances (W/D, fridge, oven) convey with the house, as well as all light fixtures. Our seller took the dining room light and I think we got a credit at closing. When we sold out last house, we excluded the garage fridge (but left the kitchen appliances and washer and dryer).

Definitely expected for all major appliances, blinds and light fixtures to convey in south Florida. New builds may be the exception (though many/most? have them) I have also seen heavily renovated homes with appliances missing and it’s alway noted in the listing. And it’s odd because you’ll see it has everything but a stove or everything but a fridge.

Yes, ours did, but it was ancient (though still functional), so we moved it to the garage to use as our extra storage one and got a new one for the kitchen.
In IL it is expected the refrigerator stays. I bought once in CA and the fridge stayed with the house without negotiating for it. I am about to sell now in CA and I figured it would be part of the listing, but I’ll have to check with my realtor because I do love my fridge and would keep it if I could.

My houses in MD and VA came with it. Our house in TX was supposed to, but the seller ended up taking it even though it was in the contract that it stayed (she was BSC and the whole sale was an ordeal, so at that point we just let it go)

I'm on house #3 2 in MA and one in GA, all came with the fridge. I left behind all appliances when I sold. Both my MA houses came with washer and dryers as well. I did look at houses without any appliances and sometimes the fridge was not included, the listing usually specified.
We moved a bunch growing up and I remember the fridge moving with us a few times, my mom still talks about how strange it was that she had to specifically exclude her curtains from the sale in WA (it's been almost 40 years mom!).

Kinda. We were offered to purchase the fridge and we did as it was the same as the last one we purchased. I expect that we'll get a new one in a few years but it was one less decision to make.
Yeah, I've never moved into a place that came with the washer/dryer.
We lucked out when we bought this house because the previous owners were doing a corporate move out of state into furnished housing. So they left all appliances including a basement fridge, the washer and dryer, 2 tvs, some area rugs, a pool table and air hockey table, and in the entry closet some of our 'town themed' spirit wear like a tshirt, a sweatshirt, a knit hat and scarf, etc. Since we were doing a local move, we left our washer and dryer there along with all appliances and our old basement fridge. I think they had to get us to 'ok' them leaving stuff, but the fridge wasn't listed in that, it was just generally included.
In PA, fridges usually stay with the house, but it's not unheard of for it not to, so you have to check what it outlines in the listing.
Neither of the homes I bought came with a fridge - in MA and in GA. However, when I sold, I sold it with all appliances (fridge, washer/dryer, etc), so it is probably seller/buyer specific.
We have bought and sold several homes and all conveyed appliances unless specifically excluded on the listing.
In our current house, the fridge/freezer are built in with cabinet fronts, so I don't even know how they could have taken them. They also left us their extra fridge in the garage.
We have a lake house that conveyed fully furnished, and the agent/others we know in the area said that is the common practice there. I actually asked if it could come without the furniture and the agent was like, "Uh no." But the houses tend to be sold by the original owners in need of updating. I'm curious how that custom will change as new owners update and furnish their homes with more modern furniture, and then want to sell.
When we sold our house in GA, we didn't need the fridge so we offered it to the buyers. They didn't want it so I had to make arrangements to donate it. When we bought our house in MD, the fridge (and washer/dryer) conveyed but we didn't want it. We replaced it before we moved in.
GA buyer/seller - All 3 times we've purchased/sold the major appliances have stayed with the house. That seems to be pretty standard, although does vary. On the seller disclosure doc or whatever, you have to check boxes for the individual appliances you're leaving. All 3 times we've bought the refrigerator happens to be in terrible shape and we've had to immediately replace it though.
In San Diego county, my condo came with a fridge. My dad rents out his childhood home in Los Angeles county and the property manager told us that fridges are never provided for rentals and rarely conveyed at sale in LA.
I saw some listings where the washer/ dryer didn’t convey. I don’t remember any listings that didn’t include kitchen appliances/ fridges.
