I saw it with my kids in the theater. We really liked it and listen to the soundtrack a decent amount. Can’t speak for why most people don’t seem to like it.
I thought it was meh. The music is a big part of the Disney experience for me. There weren't memorable songs in this movie. The plotline was choppy and lacked depth. It felt pretty flat and I found myself watching the time more than the movie.

We saw it in the theater. It think it was trying for nostalgia but landed on generic. It was fine, but none of us loved it and I am a Disney fan, so that says a lot.
ETA - I did like the soundtrack, but I was the only one in my family who did and I think I’m in the minority overall.
We saw it in the theater and liked it. It’s definitely a simpler story (although doesn’t make complete sense). The songs are good but the lyrics aren’t quite as easy to remember as LMM songs. We are looking forward to it being on demand 🤷🏻♀️

It wasn’t as catchy or memorable as so many of the others and didn’t have a lot of character development it seemed and was very predictable. It was fine, but not normal Disney magic.
I’ve been waiting for it to drop too so we can rewatch it.
We saw it in the theater and liked it. I think if anything the plot line might’ve been a bit serious and/or required more thought than a typical Disney musical. I was worried my 5 year old was bored or wouldn’t quite get it but she liked it and keeps asking when we can see it again. It also takes a good 30 minutes to really get started.

My daughter and I loved it. 🤷♀️ She sings the songs and she conned her dad into buying the movie already even though we have Disney+. We've watched it several times at home.

My kids liked it, however.
This is how I felt about Moana :::ducks:::
Yeah, you need to duck. Booo hisssss to this opinion. Boooooo!
We haven't seen it yet since the kids are meh about the commercials. Our Targets have had a bunch of wish merchandise on clearance for awhile so I think it's not doing as well as they expected.

We saw Moana for the first time on Inauguration Day 2017. When I say I still ugly cry at "How Far I'll Go" I mean it. I love it, but that song hits me hard in the heart and cannot be played while I'm driving.
ETA: I have not seen Wish. My kids are 13 and 16 and I miss the days when they'd willingly see a Disney movie in theaters with me.
Wish hasn't even been on my radar, so I'll need to watch a trailer.
I haven't seen Moana yet, and my girls liked it a lot, but it's not their favorite. We all love Encanto and Coco, which is supposedly heading to Broadway. I can't find any specific info on timing, so if anyone here has the scoop, please spill the tea.
Same as yall - we saw it in theaters and it was cute but not our best favorite.
Moana was my DD’s first huge movie that she obsessed over so that has a soft spot for me. We loved Encanto and Coco too. She also still really likes the old school ones, especially Sleeping Beauty.

We saw it in the theaters and the girls liked it but haven’t really talked about it. They do not like Moana- they find the volcano lady scary. Encanto was on repeat for a long time.
Can we start the debate for best Disney soundtrack?

For me it’s Hercules followed closely by Encanto.
Moana, hands down. 8 years after its release, I still have Shiny as my ringtone.

Hunchback of Notre Dame is the best soundtrack, hands down. I was just practicing Out There on my piano yesterday! Heaven’s Light/Hellfire is incredible. The voice actors/singers they got for that movie were next level, especially Clopin, Frollo and Quasimodo. And the score, omg.
While I know the movie is a pop culture heave-ho on the treatment of an actual native person who actually existed and not at all in the fashion she was represented, I think Pocahontas’ soundtrack is fantastic. Just Around the River Bend is stirring, and I do think the movie/music would have been better if they kept “If I Never Knew You” in because it closes the loop on the orchestral madness (great madness) at the end when Pocahontas sprints to the bluff to see the ship out.
Hercules is fantastic and any time I meet a Jason or a Brittany I have a good chuckle.
In the modern era, I can’t decide between Moana and Encanto. Their declaration songs are bangers. “I Am Moana!” and hitting that last note on her name like she’s never going to hit it again brings tears to my eyes. And Mirabel’s “Come on I’m ready, I’ve been patient and steadfast and steady!” is such a heartbreaking plea.
Anyway, I’m ready to write some 5 paragraph essays on soundtrack.
