I only listen to the radio in other peoples cars. I have Sirius in my car, or I stream Apple Music. The commercials on regular radio are like nails on a chalkboard to me.
So I have a stupid S/O question that doesn't deserve it's own thread. Do you have to pay a subscription fee for satellite radio (I'm assuming that's what Serius/XM are)? And if so, about how much is it? Neither of our cars have those, and I've only ever used them with rental cars. My dh is the music connoisseur in our family, and he decided he wanted to pay for a family youtube music subscription, so that is our go-to music streaming service, which I know he pays a small monthly fee for, but I'm curious how it compares to satellite radio. Also, can you only listen to satellite radio in the car, or can you stream it from you phone or other smart devices?
We have Apple Music.
My car picks up my phone automatically, so I don’t have to set anything up.
I agree with whomever said that ads are like nails on the chalkboard.

Yes, every day. I got sick of paying for sirius and my kids don't want to listen to my music. Over the air radio is the only reason i have any idea about current pop music.
Yes, because decision making is hard. Traditional (especially local) plays people to decide. And you learn about local news and local businesses.
Streaming has too many choices. Make a playlist, choose an artist, choose genre, choose a sub-genre, a station of 10 in that sub-genre or sub-sub genre, choose a station that plays music like (whatever artist)…
I do have music on my phone and subscribe to Apple Music. I use it some.
I’m starting to get choice fatigue in music and tv. Scrolling. Scrolling.
I’d almost like to cancel all TV streaming and just use the 5-10 channels we get over the air. You find out quickly if there is something to watch or not. You might watch something that you won’t have picked on your own. And you get local news and alerts.
Yup, daily. Most of my drives are 5 minutes or less, so I don't take the time to plug in my phone and stream music/podcasts. If its over 5-10 minutes, I'll stream something.
This.
My drive to work is 4-5 minutes, and we are usually running late, so I don’t take the time to pull up Spotify and plug my phone in
If I’m driving to my moms or the grocery store (10-15 min) maybe I’ll do Spotify. But sometimes I forget
Yes, but my favorite local independent station just had to go to streaming-only, as the iheartradio assholes have pushed them off the dial here. But I still listen to sports talk radio when I'm in the car.
ETA: If you like alternative music played by real DJs, have a listen! (and the morning show with Brian Phillips is the BEST. "Trending Topics" always has some sort of Florida Man-type story!)
Not since 2005 when I moved here. I had Sirius for a couple of years, but stopped driving to work in 2007 so was never in the car that much. Switched to Spotify probably around 2010 and had that ever since.
