The eclipse last year here I didn't think about it until the day before. I spent $$$ on glasses, and had to hit several stores (the library supply was long gone) before I found two lonely pairs on the shelf.

and this reminds me I need to cancel my hotel in Ohio. There was just no way I could make this work with my family's other plans for the year. I will forever regret not driving to OR (only 3 hours!) on 2017.
I do promotional marketing and have been selling these like crazy, branded. Make sure you Google the list of reputable suppliers. Amazon is not recommended.
On the topic of the library, ours has them online for patrons only and you have to register early. Check the website on how to get yours and yes do it now/ early.
Please NO PHONE CALLS. We got about 10,000 phone calls during the last one, and we didn't even have any glasses.

Where I work, we’re allowing two per active library card. We have 2000. Last eclipse we had 15,000 requests.

I think we got 1000 glasses this year. We have a population of 35,000. Do not call us!

I think Utica, New York might be juuuuuuust south of the path and we happen to be up there on the 6th and 7th for the women's hockey world championships. I booked the hotel wondering why Utica of all places was so expensive that weekend, because even with the world championships going on I figured people would book all over upstate and drive. Then I learned why. I'm tempted to stay one more day and just drive a bit north but...nah.

I’ll find the link!
Hey! We have a trade show the week before and I'd love to order some. Can you send me the link?
the science museum had free glasses available at the libraries here, they might be gone now, but we got them from there... though i have no idea where i put them. lol
Eclipse Fever is ramping up here!
The AAA baseball team/field announced yesterday they will have NASA scientists here for a special Q&A and live demonstrations that day before and during the eclipse (tickets are free!) as well as showing the eclipse on the jumbotron. the drive-in will be hosting and doing the same, $5 for glasses (while supplies last) and $5 per vehicle. my only question is- if it cloudy here that day (which April in Buffalo its a good chance) will the feed be from a non-cloudy locale??
Merch is everywhere! a local shirt co that sells limited designs to raise money for special causes just released a really cool one i will probably get, the eclipse design supports pediatric cancer.
and county exc is considering a state of emergency, which other municipalities have already done- to prevent gridlock and allow emergency vehicles to travel.

We drove 6 hours to WY (and then 9 hrs home with traffic) in 2017 and both agree that it was 100% worth it, as crazy as it sounds to spend 15 hrs in the car for 3 min of dark.

We have access to a family house just north of Utica and we are driving 8 hours on Friday and staying until Tuesday to see it. I'd stay!!!
I got some better glasses ordered, thanks for the reminder. My hometown in Ohio is right in the path, so we are shacking up with best friend for a couple of days. We are taking a 3 week trip so tacked this on to our way back home trip. I kind of wish we could have watched it at Garner State Park (a favorite place) in Texas, but we need to be closer to home by that date.
I'm just outside the path of totality and I just can't decide if I want to deal with the traffic to drive a few hours and be in the totality. I kind of want to, but then I know I'll be so frustrated on the road.
timorousbeastie, Thanks for the link! I'd ordered some from Amazon but was able to confirm that they are on the list so that's a relief. In the past, I've heard that you should get new ones each time but is that true? I have a set from the 2017 partial eclipse and didn't know if they'd be good to use, so I just ordered new.

Sure!!! I have an approved supplier. DM me your email address and I’ll see what I can do!
My parents are at the edge of totality. I asked my dad if he had proper glasses, but he assured me his welding helmets meet the standard.
We are so far away we won’t see anything. We’re visiting my parents the week prior though. Too bad our holidays don’t line up. I would love to experience it.

When I was a kid we used welding masks. Surely it's better than whatever shoebox solution people recommend.
We're in the past of totality, but also in one of the cloudiest cities in the country, so hoping we can see it!
Ordered my glasses, thanks for the reminder
Fingers crossed for clear skies!
@@@ I'm in Boston, I think about 3-4 hrs drive from totality. I thought about pulling the kids from school and trying to drive to see it, but the logistics seem to hard. And I have a feeling it will be cloudy anyway.

As long as they're in good repair and a dark enough shade a welding mask is totally fine. the lighter masks are not. the pinhole viewer (i.e. shoebox thing) is kinda fun though. It's my favorite weird optics effect.
Duing the 2017 eclipse was looking at the shadows of trees was really cool. Same effect as the pinhole viewer, but multiplied. kinda trippy.
