My mom recently told me - in that boomer out of nowhere way- that she's always thought it was weird that I have to sleep with a water glass next to me. I wake up and need a little drink sometimes! DS has always been the same way but I guess DH doesn't ever drink in bed and my parents didn't either. I feel like this is totally normal and they even sell carafes for this purpose? Is this not part of what nightstands are for? What say you?
Oh, I keep my water bottle with me 24/7 and always fill it before I go to bed. As a kid, I always had a glass of water on my nightstand, as did my mom. DH used to tease me about my collection of water cups because I’d bring a new one up each night until I switched over to a water bottle.
Yes and I can’t remember a time when I didn’t. It has to be sealed though so I don’t spill it and more importantly, I don’t swallow a bug when I blindly reach for it in the dark *shudder*
I personally don’t but my husband did for a while. We got a cute carafe that was made out of old wine bottles with a glass that sat on top so no bugs or dust.
I have trouble falling asleep but once I’m out, I don’t wake up until the morning (unless something unexpectedly wakes me) so no need for water.
I think Boomers are just very dehydrated. I remember my mom was like 60 and her doctor told her to drink more water and she was shocked at how light her pee was lol

As a kid I never did. Since my early 20s, though, always. Especially when I lived in arid CO, you absolutely need to wet your mouth at some point during the night and especially first thing in the morning.
It is a sealed water bottle, but that's all I drink out of regardless. In fact, I just filled mine for bedtime (it's around midnight). Half of it will be gone before I even fall asleep. The other half before I get out of bed when I wake up.

Only if I'm sick and my throat might be sore or I'm congested. I don't wake up in the night wanting to drink something otherwise. I stop drinking liquids a couple of hours before bed so I'm not going to the bathroom at night.
I don’t always sleep with a water bottle next to my bed, but H does. Always something spill-proof because we have asshole cats who would stick a paw in an open glass or knock it over or whatever.

In college DH usually had a glass of ice water by his bed, but then I taught his parent's new kitten to paw at the ice cubes for fun. There were knocked over cups in multiple places for months.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

I didn't until I was an adult and started taking medicine right before bed and 1st thing in the morning. My kids keep water bottles by their beds (and dh now uses a water bottle too), but I still use an open cup. I also hate unfiltered tap water, so I fill it from the filtered fridge water downstairs, whereas kids and dh will fill theirs from the bathroom tap.
I can't speak for other people, but my nightstand is for my glasses and chapstick. If I drink water in the MOTN I'll just have to pee in the MOTN. I already have insomnia and I don't need an added problem.
H has a water bottle on the floor next to his side of the bed even though has has a nightstand and he does drink in the MOTN.

I bring my giant Stanley knockoff to bed with me every night. I always take a sip if I wake up in the night to pee or whatever. It’s basically my sidekick, it’s with me everywhere.
I was just talking to my H about this because I’ve always been a big water drinker, but do not keep it on my nightstand, anymore at least because I have in the past but it was never a permanent fixture. I do usually get up at least once to use the bathroom and I always get a drink of water then. So I figure if I had it on my nightstand but still have to get up anyway I’ll just to get my drink in the kitchen.
Yes I always have water with me. I don't drink it a ton MOTN, but if I don't have it then I'm definitely thirsty! I did use it a ton when the kids were up all night as babies, and even now when someone is up at night because of sickness or whatever (and with five people this happens a lot).
Yes I always keep a mug of water by my bed. Although the other day I woke up, took a sip and realized there was a ladybug in it. 😱 I should probably get a covered cup.
Kids have water bottles specifically in their rooms for overnight drinks. Doesn’t everyone get thirsty at night sometimes?

My nightstand is for books. All the books. (I'm not even joking, I counted and my nightstand currently has 16 books and my kindle).
Also my eye ointment and drops.
I only started bringing my water tumbler into the bedroom a few years ago, because sometimes I wake up with catch in my throat and water can prevent a coughing fit. I also get back to sleep better if I don't have to get up and go get it. Most nights it sits untouched, so if I need a refill before bed, I only fill it 1/4 of the way.
None of us have water. I’m still traumatized by the food and drinks my sister would hide in her room growing up when there wasn’t really any reason to have them up there.
I mean, if someone wanted to keep water I think I could unclench, but no one has asked outside of sickness.

I always have water with me, including at night on my nightstand. And, thinking back on it, I did this as a kid too.
My H never takes water to bed with him. Which is annoying bc he sometimes is thirsty when he wakes up MOTN and then makes lots of noise getting water. Just bring a water bottle with you, H!

I started doing it in my mid 20s if I remember correctly. I just remember starting to be more thirsty all the time then and I honestly thought something was wrong with me haha. I think I even brought it up to my doctor. So yes I do it now but wasn’t always like that.

I'm a firmly sometimes. It just depends if I'm thirsty right before bed, but most of the time I'd rather avoid having to pee in the middle of the night. I very rarely wake up thirsty.
ETA - also, if I do it's a bottle with a top, not an open glass.

Pretty much this, but it was my divorced dad in his gross apartment with cups and stuff next to his bed.
Maybe once a year, I'll have something salty to eat at dinner and be thirsty in the middle of the night, but that's it.

Yes, I pretty much always have water with me wherever I go. I take a pill right before bed so need water for that and I also like being able to take a sip if I wake up thirsty in the night
