We're finally doing our trip to Breck, Aspen, and Crested Butte this summer. I already have lodging booked in Aspen (yeesh, that's expensive) and am narrowing down options for the other two. I think I'd like to do a condo or townhome in both.
Was hoping to get some input on location from either locals and/or people who have visited before. In Breck, we would love to be walking distance to the main road but not right on it for noise purposes. I am looking at a couple condos at Trails End, which appears to be on/near Village Rd. as well as a townhome that looks like it's near 4 O'Clock Road. Would either of these be a preferred location or kind of similar in terms of what we're looking for?
For Crested Butte, my preferred location was probably in town but I am not having luck finding things that either 1) aren't sold out for our dates; 2) don't have a minimum stay of a week; or 3) aren't horribly expensive in town in terms of condos/townhomes. So I think we will be staying on Mt. Crested Butte. Hopefully it's not too much of a hassle driving down into the town. I'm having a harder time finding condo options I like here. I have two saved - one at Evergreen and one at Three Seasons. Are both pretty similar? Any other options you'd recommend?
Also, I know both places are at elevation so hopefully we won't melt with not having AC in either town?
ETA: And I do know that Aspen to Crested Butte is a long drive as you have to go around the mountain. That is fine with us. I have always wanted to see both places, 4-5 hours is not that long for us on our road trips, and the drive is part of the enjoyment for us.
For Breck, yes, anything along 4 o’clock will be great. Super easy to get to Main Street, but we don’t find it noisy or bothersome. Basically anything inside the red circle is going to be a super easy walk.
Restaurant recs:
Are you bringing your pup? Kenosha Grill has a great outdoor patio and a dog menu. There’s a creek right on the other side of the road from all those condos that she would love to play in and a great trail that takes you up to a lake.
If you want fine dining, Radicato, Blue River Bistro, and Rootstalk are wonderful. Giampietro has pretty solid American Italian (not fine dining). And Kenosha is great with or without your dog.
Mom’s Baking Co is my favorite spot for a quick breakfast and great coffee. Clint’s also has good coffee and baked good.
Get ice cream at Higgles.
PM me if you have other questions. We spend a week in Breck every summer.
RoxMonster Keep an eye on your travel plans, your long drive between Aspen and Crested Butte may have gotten longer, or you’ll want to reverse your route and do Breck to CB. This bridge closure is a huge impact to travel in this area and recreation/tourism as well if they can’t get it open by this summer:
