The incremental relief brings the canceled total to $143.6 billion for nearly four million Americans.

The Biden administration continued its effort to extend student debt relief on Thursday, erasing an additional $5.8 billion in federal loans for nearly 78,000 borrowers, including teachers, firefighters and others who largely work in the public sector.

ETA: Starting next week, borrowers who are set to receive the latest round of debt cancellation through the P.S.L.F. program will receive an email notification from Mr. Biden — a reminder of his administration’s work just eight months before the presidential election.

I wish the Ds messaged this better. It’s SO good for all of us. I don’t think people realize how much.

Also, the Rs are getting away with letting this seem like actual tax dollars are paying entire debt off to lazy people who picked the wrong college majors.

Not correcting a series of horrible wrong financial policies and traps to the very people who should get relief.

I agree. It’s like D’s are afraid of the MAGA / naysayer response to they are too quiet about all the good they are doing, they don’t explain it well or make it clear the only hope to improve the things a lot of voters are complaining about is a Democratic Government. They really need to ignore MAGA and start bragging about all the good policy changes they are doing to help regular Americans and the economy. I’d love to see the stats about how much people have paid in student loans, how much has been paid in interest, and how much has been forgiven. I bet far more has been paid than forgiven, and in my case the Gov’t made $$ from my interest and I paid my original balance so no tax dollars were needed for my PSLF forgiveness.
