Where have folks had good luck getting trip insurance through? We typically don't purchase it because most of our lodging for trips can be cancelled up to the 1-2 days before. But this upcoming summer trip has one condo that has to be cancelled 60 days out to get money back and another that has to be cancelled two weeks prior. With our elderly dog's health, plus my parents (our dog-sitters) needing to help my grandma and her being very elderly and not in great health, it makes me nervous to not be able to cancel and get money back closer to the trip.
I'm assuming if we had to cancel after the deadline, the way it would work is that we would still pay the lodging company and then the insurance would reimburse us. Is this something you go through your regular insurance company for or are there recommended places online?
I keep meaning to do this for our Alaska trip this summer, but one of the financial podcasts that I listen to on my commute wrote about this on their website. clark.com/travel/travel-insurance/ It looks like the general recommendation was to use InsureMyTrip to get a variety of quotes. I should probably make time to do this soon.

Thanks all. I have looked into some of the options mentioned and it seems no one offers a 100% cost of trip reimbursement for cancel for any reason. The most I saw was 75% of trip cost. Is that what can be expected of all companies or has anyone seen a 100% cost of trip coverage?

Usually for cancel for any reason coverage you have to get it within a few days/week of originally booking the trip, and yes, many don’t cover 100%.
And we compare various plans and providers on insuremytrip.com.

The first part of our trip we booked on March 12, so I will definitely be figuring out the trip insurance within the next day or so because I did see some require it to be no farther out than 14 or 21 days of first booking.
We have multiple different lodgings (5 total) with all different cancellation dates. One 60 days out, one two weeks out, some 48 hours out, some 24 hours out. I'm assuming I would want to insure the total cost of all of them, right? Let's say I had to cancel a month out. I could get a refund for everything but the one lodging, so could I just file a claim with the insurance for the one lodging I couldn't refund?
We’ve bought trip insurance from Tin Leg via squaremouth.com. They were immensely helpful with our claim for a minor medical emergency, highly recommend. As the PP said, make sure you get “cancel for any reason” coverage.
