Anyone here rock climb? Bf wants me to start going to an indoor rock climbing place after taking a class with him. I've been to this place once with a youth group when I was 12 but have forgotten everything. Any tips or things I should know? He wants to get ds in to it too to help burn off energy as well as keep him from climbing on things at home.
Bf is trying to get me more active and thinks it will be a fun way to work my muscles.

Yes I have always wanted to but one of those things that just kept getting pushed to the side then forgotten about. I want to expose ds to a lot of different sports and activities. I talked to the place and they have equipment for as young as 18 months ( who takes their 18 month old climbing?) but will place him on the same section you use for trying it out until he builds up or decides whether he likes it.
I've done rock climbing and it's fun. Don't over think the steps, just go for it, because if you hang on too long, your arms get too tired and you have to let go. Trust your body and instincts and just go for the hard jump or step or whatever or else you will get stuck too long.
Be prepared to get a bit scared at the top because you will have to just let go and fall and trust the person holding the ropes will take you down safely. This IMO was the hardest part of rock climbing. I would not let go once I made it to the top haha.
Place your feet first and use your legs to pull you up, not your hands and arms! Using your arms to pull yourself up will make them too tired and again, you will have to let go.
I climb! I've been into it for a few years and it might be my favorite sport to participate in. It's hard to give tips without knowing how seriously you want to take it. It's as easy or challenging as you make it. Have fun with it though! Oh! And climb outside too. I love dedicated climbing gyms, but the real fun is outdoors.

Thanks for the tips. The only thing I'm a little worried about is heights. I never use to have an issue with it until I had ds, same reason I can no longer do rollercoasters without being sick. I'm willing to give it shot and even may surprise myself with no issue at all
Wait, how old is your DS? I'm sure that getting him into rock climbing will totally keep him from climbing stuff at home !
Lol, ya, I think it will probably make him better at climbing stuff at home and encourage it. But it will still be fun for both of you and a great workout!

He is 4 and I didn't mean it literally. I think he might like it. So far he just does soccer at daycare and has a 10 week sport camp to try out everything from tennis to golf to lacrosse

My fi climbs and is an instructor. Just pay attention to the safety stuff they go over with you and follow your instincts as to where to make the next step and when you feel you are high enough for you that day. Don't go higher than you are comfortable with until you get the hang of it.

I think remembering not to push it will help ease me in to it.
