It's kitten day! Prepare to be spammed with pictures once we get them home and settled. I've got everything set up in my office so that we can keep them separated from my dogs for the first few days until they get to know their new home.
Then tomorrow is baby day! LOL I'm babysitting my one-year old niece from Thursday through Monday. My youngest will be 16 this month so it's been forever and a day since I've had a baby in my house for anything longer than a visit but I'm so excited for 4 days of baby cuddles.
penelope If the magnesium doesn’t help and you’re ok with going the Rx route, I take .5 mg of Requip (Ropinirole) nightly before bed and it worked wonders! Total game changer!
I had no idea there could be a Rx out there to help, in all of the googling I've done!! Thank you!!! I am so desperate I would try anything at this point!! I will talk to my doctor about it if the magnesium doesn't help!!

My moms been on Requip for decades and it helps a lot.
fangoriagurkel Yes, store bought is a popular option. It’s often preferred at pot lucks where people can read ingredient labels know where it was prepared. I would be shocked if some if not most of the sides/desserts are not store bought.
I need to start my garden seedlings this week. I'm super focused on how to get cheap potting mix and garden soil. Do I make my own? Or search around for some deals? Every year I have grand ideas and fail. I want to plan more cut flowers, but we have critters who like to eat and destroy them. For example, I started 20 sunflower seedlings, and only one flourished because it was in a raised pot. I bought a fake owl that is solar-powered. I hope that helps. Any gardeners out there? What are you doing this year?
I feel like Tik tok/reels kind of glamorizes soil mixes. I’ve never been able to source good soil cheaply. The best I’ve ever done is getting a “mushroom mix” through a local landscaper, but it’s such hard work to move it from the front of our house to the back of our house and garden area. I’m too lazy for good soil, lol. I tend to just pick up bags of miracle grow as needed now that our beds are filled. I scoop out about half and place it in low spots in the yard and re-fill with new.
I do mostly vegetables and prairie plants (Midwest), and this year I’m going to chaos sow a butterfly mix, zinnias and sunflowers by my fence. I’m just trying to grow so much the weeds are choked out.
I frequently leave my hair tie in a bowl on the coffee table at night. The dogs get up with my husband in the morning and beagle has taken to grabbing the hair tie and bringing it to me, still sleeping in bed. She cries until I notice and she drops it in my hand.
I don’t think she’s trying to get me up because she runs away after. I think she is trying to be helpful? Like “This is yours! Take it!”. It’s very cute and silly. Luckily I have a lot of hair ties because now I’m washing one nearly daily lol
fernweh, I don't think that's too long, but I also have social anxiety so I'd dread making that call even 1 day after the cut. I hope it works out though!
Congrats vicky, that's exciting! I hope you are able to tell which job will be a better fit for you.
My ds leaves tomorrow morning for a band trip to Orlando, and my anxiety is going into overdrive a bit about it (he's 14 and a freshman so this will be his 1st). He's gone to camp for a week in the summer before, but this is less supervised than that. He will be in charge of taking his own medicine (for ADHD and allergies) even though there's a nurse on the trip and a chaperone in charge of his 'group' who will remind him. This morning I asked if he wanted to pack right after school or after an appt. I'm taking DD to this afternoon, and he was like, I can just pack myself at some point tonight. And I was like, um, no, it's not that I don't trust you, but for my anxiety and sleep's sake, I need to supervise your packing please thank you.
My 14 year old freshman just got back from an 8 day trip to Germany. He did ‘pack himself’ with a list (that I double checked with him after) and remembered to take his meds every day. He did go away last year as well but it was right after he was diagnosed (and we didn’t start meds yet) and more supervised bc his good friend’s dad was on the trip and it was also a MS vs HS trip. All was well.
expectantsteelerfan, I'd let him pack and then you check it. He's old enough! My 12 yr olds pack themselves and I just check it. Hope he has a great trip!

We have a compost bin I keep forgetting to use, I should just start there. We also bought a Lomi for kitchen scraps and started a good amount to put in our compost.
I have tons of pots I need to fill as well. I love the chaos sow idea, I did that late in the fall and I'm already seeing some progress (well, now it's covered in snow.)

I am clearly tired because I had to reread your first sentence like 4 times because I couldn't figure out why you leave your hair in a bowl at night. For some reason, I kept closing over the important word "tie" when reading LOL
I have been having restless legs in the evenings so bad lately. I had it 25 years ago when I was pregnant with my kids and then it went away. It has returned and it is miserable. Some nights are ok and others...ugh. I read magnesium can help but takes time to build up in the system so I'm like a week in and hoping it will start to help soon. Monday night was alright, last night was awful. I'm so tired of it.
We were supposed to be hit with a pretty bad storm and I was hoping I could at least work from home today. The entire UP is closed except for the most northern point, which is of course where I live. My university never closes for weather but I didn't think a work from home day should have been too much to hope for. So instead its just sloppy and crappy with winds at like 35 mph. 40 minutes away the closings start and everything south of that is closed today, even the state university 2 hours away. DS2 is there and I bet he's happy today.
Different types of magnesiums work for different things. Try magnesium glycinate for restless legs. I get gummies on Amazon that work well.

I was looking online at walk through baby gates. We need two, to replace the cheapass ones that we usually hurdle over. I do t think that I’ll be in a jumping-over-gates place after surgery. Anyway, there were some really expensive ones with an acrylic door. Like. Entirely see through. I am imagining my stupid cats running full tilt into them and cracking up!
fernweh, I think you’re fine to get it fixed now. You didn’t get a correct cut. A week won’t change that! And sometimes it takes a few days to realize whether you like a new cut or color before you can make your decision. In your case, your stylist missed half your head. Mistakes happen, but it should definitely be fixed. Since it was a mistake, and not just that you “don’t like it” I would be shocked if they charged you. If you let them know that you’re coming in for a correction, it should definitely be free of charge. I’d still tip your stylist, though!
How much would you tip? They are getting me in this afternoon but my original stylist wasn’t available for several days so they scheduled me with someone else. Honestly if it was the original stylist I wasn’t planning on tipping because I tipped well on the original cut. Since it’s a different person, I don’t want them to get screwed having to do work they aren’t compensated for.
I was just about to post in the Tuesday Randoms post, because I guess I thought it was Tuesday. In my defense, it was at the top of the page. Much happier to realize it is in fact, Wednesday.
We are looking at buying new living room furniture and I now want to completely rearrange the layout of the room, which means moving the (mounted) tv that we just paid someone to install a couple months ago. H is clearly annoyed with me, but also agrees the layout would work better for the room and would fit the sectional we like.
Sandy, we all feel this way on our third straight day of rain.
Seriously! When will it stop? I am so over it.
I ordered my dog a raincoat yesterday because we are both tired of having to towel him off after a walk. He was kind of naughty last night and I know it was because he has too much energy from not walking enough.
Jokes on you here. Because even with a raincoat, those tiny legs splash up on the belly. Ask me how I learned this? Lol
Rename a committee FART is something I would seriously consider. Back when I had enough morale to try to improve morale. I use to love my job and where I worked. Now I’m just that curmudgeon trying to guess the likelihood we might get a buy out offer.
In other news, after deciding we would do something way different on our Christmas vacation, I booked a place in Malta, on the advice of a friend. Then I spent 4 days wringing my hands and researching the island and the flights. And then, I rebooked for Aruba. I really want to not Caribbean, but Lordy it’s easy to get to.

How much potting soil do you need? Does it need to be organic?
I'm no help with sunflowers, I have only done them in raised beds. The ones I see that seem successful are in large groups so maybe that helps? I threw a bunch of sunflower seeds out for the confused birds that flew back too early, felt like snow white...maybe I will get some volunteers this year. Probably not.
I just started my seeds, couldn't find any plastic pots so I bought the Jiffy biodegradable ones out of desperation and I already regret it! I need to get my light rack set up, stupid seeds sprouted right away which just figures.

I just found a Coscto reward check for $30 so I may just run out and get a couple of potting soil bags. I bought two metal round garden beds too. I have a lot of logs and cardboard I can fill it and start from there, I just remember spending so much on soil when I'm sure there is an cheaper way. I'm not partial to organic.

Sweet! I just use miracle gro for seed starting, I'm not fancy. I used Black Kow last year to top off some beds and it STUNK to high heaven. If you have any horse farms near you they sometimes have shovel your own compost for free!

penelope, my dad took the Rx for a while for misdiagnosed Parkinson's. It wasn't a fit for him, but more so because of the behavioral side effects. Just make sure you read up on the side effects, which the doc should go over. Hope you get some kind of relief.
Congratulations lavenderblue, I'm always here for pet pictures <3
I'm weary of joining work committees, at least right now...but I would be tempted to join F.A.R.T. as long as I didn't have to go in the office.
I called to reschedule DS's appointment this afternoon due to the flooded roads. I apparently have no chill. I called at 10:30AM and left a message. By 12:30 I had not heard anything back, and I needed to leave the house by 2PM. I also wanted to be courteous and give plenty of notification, so I started to get annoyed that no one had called back. I called again and I'm pretty sure the receptionist was annoyed with me, but I didn't want them to think he was coming when he wasn't (I don't know if you get penalized or not). It was unclear if she had been planning on calling back because she was like "oh, I did get your message, remind me what it was about..." so I'm glad I took care of it. I just feel bad that I'm annoying.
My Holter monitor is actually this sticky one-piece thing called a CAM (carnation ambulatory monitor) and it's way less of a pain in the ass than I was expecting it to be. Except the way it's taped down it's pulling at one of my boobs in a really annoying way when I lay down.
I woke up a lot last night, partly because of my heart palpitations, and partly because of the boob issue, so I'm feeling really exhausted and grouchy this morning.

I had posted that we're getting a LOT more rain and/or in my area ice and snow. Sort of bummed because I had plans to run errands like find a new place for a much needed eye brow wax, but the idea of finally sitting on the couch and maybe reading a book for 20 minutes sounds like vacation. Hopefully I'm motivated to do a few chores, but we'll see.
Y'all are a bad influence. I started back with NY Games like Wordle, Connections and Strands. Strands specifically is killing me because I'm normally pretty good at word searches. I play, then take a break, go back later. Eventually I search for a spoiler because I can't get enough hints built up. Add this to why I'm so behind on a really soft reading goal, lol.
I ran out to grab a salad for lunch and got the way back to the office before I realized I'd picked up a packet of goddamned fat free raspberry vinaigrette instead of nice, fatty balsamic vinaigrette. That crap tastes like Kool aid concentrate and RUINS a salad. RUINS.

My life is very, very hard.
Pray for me.
Praying for you. This would legit ruin my day, and I am not above sending out an email or text to a range of people asking if they have balsamic dressing (or frankly any fat-full substitute!) that I can use!

A good dog raincoat should have a belly panel. I'm partial to Hurtta for dog coats. They're not cheap, but they're extremely well made.
DS1 (22 years old) and his long-term girlfriend (they've been together 3.5 years, lived together for 2) mutually broke up last night. I am so sad for them. They were really great together and we love her as our daughter. They just want very different things in life and realized it's better to rip the band-aid off now instead of prolonging things. This is his first real love and he's devastated. My heart hurts.

I don’t think you were the annoying one in this scenario!

True - his feet are definitely wet and aside from rainboots I'm not sure what could be done about that. But it's much easier to dry part of him instead of all of him, at least! ETA: and deadwing reminded me, this jacket actually has a zipper that closes over his belly so I think that part will be dry for the most part!
The coat arrived right after we went for a walk a little while ago, so I'll have to try it on him later. I think it's going to be freaking adorable.

Oh, young love is both joyful and heartbreaking. Today’s 20 yo are so smart, though. So much more than my crowd at 20ish at least. Do you know who wanted what and the dealbreakers? Just curious what smart young people are discussing these days.
