Anyone familiar with the parking situation at this station? We’re looking at driving there and then taking the train to NYC for several days, likely arriving mid to late morning on a weekday in late June or early July. Does the garage fill up? It looks like overnight parking isn’t allowed in the overflow areas.
I've always been able to park there with no problem but you can't park overnight in a lot of the spaces. We almost always park at Hamilton if we are going overnight bc it has a huge garage.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
charlatti I'm not sure what area you are driving from, but if it's convenient to your drive, I will second the recommendation for Hamilton Station as a great choice for overnights.
We have also driven all the way to Weehawken ferry terminal and taken the ferry over, which is a fun way to get into the city. We've left our car overnight in Weehawken also with no issue.
jinkies, we’re coming from Ohio, so nothing is particularly convenient! I don’t want to drive in Manhattan, but even with NJ parking and transit it’s still more cost effective to drive than fly. Hamilton appears to be a slightly shorter drive than Metropark, slightly longer train obviously.
The station doesn't typically fill up but if you get there after the peak morning time, you will have to drive around until you find a spot.
ETA - Late June/Early July is when school ends combined with the July 4th holiday so I feel like there would be more people on vacation so less people commuting, more spots in the garage.
That's a smart idea to leave your car in NJ! Driving and then parking in the city is a nightmarish fortune, especially if you're not familiar with it.

Agree with the Hamilton suggestion. It feels safe, I’ve also parked over several days there, too. We actually drive past Trenton to park there (see feeling safe, which Trenton doesn’t)
Another option is Rahway - there are two train lines that service NYC from this station, so usually more train options, and it is closer than both Hamilton & Metropark.
