Do you mean I own the rental and discover a renter left behind an open jug of pretzels? Trash in that case. If I'm renting the place and find them in the cupboard, I'm definitely not eating them, but I'm leaving them alone, not trashing them. In the second example, I figure they might belong to the owner and it's not my place to throw them out.
It would depend on circumstance. Like do I know who left them, and how long they were there? Most likely I would not eat them. I just would feel weird about it. Like what if they had a bad cold and dipped their hand in the pretzels?
I probably wouldn’t because other people are gross. They could have dipped their dirty hands into the jug (a lot of people don’t wash after using the bathroom), etc.

As the person who brings their own bottle of cleaner or disinfectant wipes when we travel so I can wipe down handles/knobs, toilet seats, etc., no I would not eat something from an open container, even if it's shelf-stable.
No. Someone has had their grimy poop hands in that jar.
I am notoriously chill about this stuff. But I won’t touch open food that someone could touch. Squeeze bottles of condiments? Sure. Unopened food? Bring it! Open alcohol? The alcohol will kill germs!
We were recently staying in an airbnb and headed to a hotel after. There was a decent amount of leftover food that we couldn't take. I briefly considered leaving it just in case the owner wanted it but figured she wouldn't, so we tossed all of it, including the spices. I felt really wasteful though.

Weirdly, if it were my rental and left there semi recently by a renter I might eat them. I would not eat them if I were the renter. I have no idea why, it makes zero sense except in my own brain.

I can’t stand waste but I couldn’t do it. Same goes for most condiments, etc. but I’ve used various salt and pepper and sugar at cabins we’ve rented so make it make sense lol.
I would not. We have severe food allergies in our family so I worry about cross contanimation - I alway rewash all silverware, plates, glasses, pots pans etc before we use them when we go on vacation. A lot of our vacation rentals leave unopened food items (and open ones like spices, etc) which I get but I probably watch Unsolved Mysteries too much as a kid so I won't eat it.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

I would feel better about salt/pepper/spices because it’s less likely someone is jamming their dirty hands in it than like a bag of chips or something like salad dressing that might not have been refrigerated properly.

Don't toss the spices next time! I think that's a normal thing to find and use in an Airbnb. But no stranger pretzels for me.
I have questions for icedcoffee though. You say they've been there a few months - have you been renting this place for months and just left them in the cupboard until now? Are you the owner, and they were left by a previous guest and have lasted through subsequent guests?

It’s off season and our place hasn’t rented in a few months. The last renter left them but that was this fall and they just sat there untouched by us. We’ve been here 2 or 3 times since then but no other renters have.
I’m going to toss the rest before I leave this time. 😆
They’ve been here a few months and I was initially hell no and then I had vodka today and it sounded good so I ate it! 😝
So I guess my SS is I will if I have vodka.
Vodka will kill off anything harmful. You’re good…except for the fact that they’ve been there for months so we’re likely super stale and gross…but you didn’t realize it, so that doesn’t matter!!!!

I wouldn't have eaten the pretzels, but I use spices/condiments left behind/open at rentals and it's my pet peeve when there are none (like not even salt and pepper, but I really appreciate when they have more than just the basics too, like EVOO, salad dressings, and ketchup, and I HATE when I have to buy those, use them for 2-3 days, and then throw them out).
I also wouldn't eat them because people are gross and probably had grubby hands.
Our timeshare is mostly locations with condos with full kitchens and there is a FB group set up so people can offer up stuff before they leave which is great in terms of less waste but I'll also only consider unopened items if it's food. Spices and cooking spray and the like I consider because they didn't have to touch the food with their hands.
