What would you wear to a party described as a “classy cocktail party”? It’s at a new friends house to celebrate her 40th birthday. Her H is throwing it and the invite said “bring your A game!”. they’re serving cocktails and appetizers. I have no idea what this means! I asked another friend who is going if she was going to dress up for it and she didn’t know what I was talking about, but it’s very likely she didn’t read the invitation yet. Help?
Knowing my friend group? For cocktail hour at someone's house that is suggesting classy cocktail, I'd wear what I'd wear to get a cocktail at one of the fancy places near us vs. whatever I'm wearing when I have a cocktail at home normally.

I'd probably wear faux leather trouser pants (as opposed to leggings) and a dressy, weather-appropriate top, and shoes would also depend on the weather. But I agree that a short dress or dressy romper would be good!
This sounds horrible. I'm at a stage where the last thing I want to do on a weekend night in the midst of all the usual craziness is to have to "bring my A game" and dress up!!
But if I were you I'd try to wear some kind of cute, short dress. Maybe black.
Probably what glw said, but personally I would wear a nice blouse and my black linen pants or my jersey black dress because I am not buying anything new just to go to the neighbors house.

I agree with this. But if you enjoy dressing up I think this could be a great time to do it!
I have never been good at dressing up or being glam and I feel like by this age I should be allowed not to feel bad about that, lol.
