We have window washers at our house. Our house went on the market today. I hired these people because they said they would be here at 11am and be done before our house showings started at 3pm. They showed up 2.5 hours late and were here during our first showing. I’m annoyed that they were so late and there was no apology or explanation. I would normally tip because these guys work for a company and they don’t get my payment directly. However, when I called the company to ask where they were the boss said he didn’t know what took them so long. He made it sound like these guys were late because they were slacking off (they only had one other job before us). I’m justified in not tipping, right?

Thank you, all! I’ve never hired window washers before but tend to tip if it is a situation where the worker doesn’t get paid directly by me. I don’t often pay people to do things for me so this doesn’t happen often. Tipping culture stresses me out. I’m still annoyed they were so late and now feel justified in not tipping.
FWIW, I wouldn't trust what the boss said either. They could have been held up, he could have scheduled them wrong and didn't want to own up to it, etc. Regardless I wouldn't have tipped.
