Curious about this given earlier thread. If a family has a CPS report that was called in, does the report go to every school the child attends? Every school any child in the family attends? Does it matter if the call was bogus and/or the report was closed with no action?
In my experience, this would vary state by state. The schools I work in do not necessarily know if a child is active with CPS until the worker shows up to speak with the child.
Not in my state. My ExH filed a report on me and I was so distraught I told my principal (I worked at the school) and she had no knowledge of it.
It went nowhere btw and the CPS was actually very professional and told me I was doing a great job and that normally they would recommend and proactive services but I already had them in place.
That big threat/fear was alleviated.
Eta if it was initiated by the school system they might send it to every school the child attends, and siblings and ages are named in the reports. Admins/counselors can probably get access to those if needed. Oh schools never find out the outcome of any report where I’m from.
I am in NYS and in my experience, schools are not notified if there is an open or active investigation on a family in which a child resides. Definitely not a closed case. At least not automatically because the department of education and department of health have completely different record keeping. I suppose the school could be notified if it could be part of an investigation or if school involvement is warranted as part of a plan of support. I have heard of allegations/calls to CPS for education neglect but that usually stems from a school reporting to Child Protection anyway. And it’s rare.
I can’t think of any type of “record” that would be kept in a child’s school file that somebody called-in a concern to the CPS hotline. Certainly not any type of record keeping that it was “founded” or “unfounded”.
No type of “record” that an investigation was opened or the plan of service, or if the goals were successfully reached or not reached when closed.

PDQ In my experience no one was told anything. Even when it got to where my x got put on supervised visitation, I was responsible for giving the documentation to the school and daycare. And that was not the first or last time they were called on him. They did interview one of my kids at school once so they would have known in that case.
PDQ As far as I know it doesn’t go anywhere if closed without action. It will not follow the kids anywhere, especially if deemed bogus without an investigation.
Someone anonymously called CPS on me regarding an incident involving DS at the daycare parking lot. The person who came to the house to investigate interviewed DD. She then said she had to talk to the people at the DS's daycare and DD's elementary school as part of her report.
Thankfully I was exonerated. And though they can't tell me who called, the woman gave me enough details about the incident the caller described and I knew exactly who had called.

I used to work for DCF in VT. If a case is not substantiated, it doesn't go anywhere. If it is investigated, only people brought into the investigation would know about it. Even if DCF opens and stays involved in the case, that doesn't mean the child is brought into foster care. Schools are usually only told if the case is opened and it is relevant to their care.
