Has anyone used UPS My Choice to upgrade a delivery from Sure Post to UPS Ground, and successfully had the package delivered a day early?
My dilemma: the dress I ordered for the wedding we're going to is is too big, and I reordered it in the next size down. However, the company is in Florida, I'm in Washington State, and apparently they only send shipments out on Fridays even when you order on a Monday, so of course the new dress is scheduled to arrive the afternoon we leave (after we've already left for the airport). Sigh.
If I pay $7.99 to upgrade to UPS ground, it says it "may" arrive a day early, but there is no guarantee. I know from the tracking of the previous dress it arrived at the local UPS facility early Thursday morning, was processed, and then handed off to the post office before noon (each scan was about 2-3 hours apart). Then the post office delivered it Friday afternoon.
But given that it arrived to the local processing facility at 5 am Thursday, will it actually get off the shipping truck and onto a delivery truck to make it to me on Thursday if I pay the upgrade fee?

My back up plans is to alter the too large dress with a combo of some fabric tape and a few hand stitches. My sewing skills are poor but I'm capable of this, and I already did a test run of taking in with binder clips (remember that from trying on wedding dresses? LOL!!) and I can make it work. It will just make my Thursday more hectic because it's something I'll be doing last minute.
I could also hit the mall on Monday and maybe find a totally new dress.
Eeeh, I wouldn’t. Has it already shipped? I just went through this with FedEx - any requests for a change took an additional day to submit and sometimes another day to process.
Do agree with finding a tailor. For something simple it could just be a few days.

I considered a tailor, but I have absolutely no idea how to go about finding/vetting one (I don't have a dry cleaner). My only experience with getting clothes tailored is the one time I got a pair of jeans I bought at Nordstrom hemmed by their in-house tailoring, and that took longer than a week.
I'm kind of uncomfortable with the idea of taking it somewhere to be honest, because if they don't get it done, then I'm still screwed. Plus even though I'm not great at sewing, I've looked at enough tutorials that I'm confident I can do it, it will just take me awhile.
Racher's, it has already shipped. When I re-bought the smaller size last Monday the purchase flow said it would be here by the 25th, but that was a big fat lie. The UPS website gives me the option to upgrade, it says this:
Upgrade to UPS Ground Upgrade to UPS Ground and your package may be eligible for delivery changes and could arrive a day earlier
But I'm not really interested in paying UPS $8 if it won't actually get here a day earlier.

I would not bother paying and hoping it will get there earlier. I do not trust UPS in general, but it sounds like the processing time to even make the change would make it unlikely.
Honestly, I would just try to find a different dress and return the too-big one and the right sized one unless it happens to show up in time (or you have another event to wear it to).
Yea I’d be shopping for another dress at this point.
If you FB, I’d crowdsource there. That’s what I’ve done so I have a little list for rushes like this. My favorite is a little shop that can do quick things like taking up a hem or altering straps in just a few days. Doesn’t hurt to have someone like that for sure!

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning towards heading out and doing another round of shopping tomorrow. I'm just really bummed because I really like the dress. I'm kicking myself for hemming and hawing over ordering it in the first place, because if I'd ordered it right away I wouldn't be in this mess.
Does the free version of MyChoice give you an option to change from delivery to pick up at a UPS access point (assuming it could get there faster and then you can go get it)? I can’t remember the specifics but I did that a couple of years ago.
mokes, it does, and I did change it to a access point that's pretty close to the UPS distribution center (like maybe 2 miles away, so I'm hoping early in the route). But when I did that it didn't update the estimated delivery date.
But it also hasn't been scanned since Friday, since UPS doesn't scan and do updates over the weekend, so I suppose *maybe* that could change at the next scan on Monday, but I'm not holding my breath.
