We have a guest room but occassionally have enough people staying over that we need to throw some extra beds in offices etc. we currently use a queen sized aerobed that is nearing 15 years old and just not comfortable, plus starting to slowly lose air. We have a large number of guests staying with us for most of June and I want to get some new portable beds. I’m thinking of some of the folding ones I’ve seen? I’m over inflatable ones. We can do mostly twin sized, they are usually used for kids/teens. Any great suggestions? I want people to be comfortable.
I put people on my couches, but that's not reasonable for most folks. Could you put a futon somewhere that would double as seating or maybe a sleeper sofa?
I have always wanted one of these below if I needed extra sleeping space, but I don't need that much so I haven't invested. They seem pretty practical but not the old, heavy sofa beds.
For kids I'd also go camping style, they sell 2-3" inflatable mattresses all over amazon that fold up to the size of a nalgene bottle when they're deflated, and they're sturdy enough for camping so they'll be fine for your basement or whatever.
For adults, a friend has the kind that folds up into a (low) couch, and I'd say it makes a pretty meh couch and a just ok bed. You definitely feel the seams between cushions, like when you sleep on a couch. I think you either need to buy one of the inflatables that you plug in and it will keep a constant pressure, or spring for a nice sleeper sofa.

Oh wow. Why? I *like* to host and this would be too much even for me. Either they or I would be at the Marriott by like June 8.
That said, I’m loving these chairs that fold out into twin beds and kinda want to get a couple. So thank you for this post and godspeed to you this June.

it’s all people we are looking forward to having! A good friend and her family are traveling from Denmark and staying with us for a little over a week - we rarely see them (since they live in Denmark lol). And immediately after they leave my bff since I was 4 and her family are visiting from California as they start doing college visits for their eldest. I only see her every other year or so. I love them all dearly so it’s going to be crazy but fine. We also have the room - a guest room, an extra office we can turn into another guest room, and a guest bath. So it’s fine.
We also have the need for extra beds come up every 3rd thanksgiving when we host extended family (we rotate every year). This is with all the cousins and my kids/we love it but it’s 11 people lol. So, the need for a few extra beds is definitely there!
For real! I can’t imagine any adults being comfortable on a portable bed outside of the woods (TBF the woods either but that neither here nor there)
We have a guest room with a queen sized bed for the adults. The extra beds are for the kids. Granted some of the “kids” are 17 lol, but they can still handle it!

I would get twin cots. Our costco has them right now. I hate air mattresses but think cots are fine.
I've also slept on the chairs that fold out to a twin and they are fine, similar to any other fold out bed.
We have an ikea sofa that was genuinely comfortable as a pull out bed (it had an under section that pulled out, wasn't folding, if that makes sense). But now at 10 years old it's less comfy as a bed. Still great as a couch.
I have four of these for my kids’ friends and we love them. They are easier and more comfy than air mattresses in my opinion. I would check the dimensions against true bed dimensions to make sure you know what you’re getting because the first ones I ordered that I thought were twin size were actually smaller. And also you just need the space to store them, they fold in thirds and stack nicely but definitely bigger than an air bed.
I don’t have this exact one, but I bought a similar mattress when my in-laws and their children came to stay a couple months ago. I heard there was a lot of bed switching (because of little kids, not the mattress) and everyone said it was comfortable. You definitely want to get a case for storage.
If you are tempted to reconsider an air mattress, I like (and only like) my twin that inflates to bed height. I got it at the camping store and it has a motor/plug/battery option to inflate and deflate quickly. It holds air overnight well (in light use in the house) and I find the extra thick mattress comfortable to sleep. When my DD uses it in my office when we have a lot of guests, the extra height gives her a “spot” in the room.

Same to everything here. My mom needs new seating in the sunroom my kids stay in while they visit and she's wanted an alternate to a sofa bed, since my kids have to share. I just passed a ton of these links on.
