I hate being a home owner. We’ve had rats in the garage and finally just got those under control (8 dead, expensive rodent proofing service). All has been peaceful. Until today.
Now we have baby birds in the garage. I’ve counted at least 6.
I’ve tried shooing them away. These guys are DUMB. One flew into a wall and passed out. I thought it was dead, but it eventually flew away.
I’m not sure if they flew in and got stuck or made a nest somewhere and hatched today… two weeks ago we spent a weekend pulling everything out the garage, cleaning and sanitizing because of the dang rats and I didn’t see any signs of nests, but I also was looking at different eye levels.
DH is OOT and these chirpy birds are going to drive me nuts. What do I do? I am not a bird watcher, I have no idea what kind of bird they are. I spent an entire month with chimney swifts chirping in the chimney - this isn’t as bad but I’m pretty sure it can drive a girl mad.
You call someone to come catch and release. If you can post a pic & your rough location I can probably tell you what kind. If they're all flying they didn't hatch today, though they may have fledged today.
Do you have any song bird rehabilitators near you? Or if not, raptor rehabilitators that could refer you to a song bird rehabilitator? They would probably know what to do.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Try to see where they’re going back to - if they’re trying to get back to the nest - so you can clean it out and see if you need to seal anything. Birds build nests FAST. They probably flew in quickly and built a nest or have their nest outside of your garage and the fledglings are bumbling around in your garage now. Do you have any lights on the outside of your garage? We are constantly knocking down Robin nests on ours.
But yes, I would just leave the garage open as much as you can and get them the hell out.
I agree that if you leave the door open, they should find their way out soon. Do you see the mother bird going in and out? Do you see a nest anywhere? Especially look up in the rafters and corners.
If they are flying, they must be pretty big already. Do you maybe have adults??
How do you get bird nests in your garage? That's what I would try to figure out. It requires a lot of back and forth for the bird to build the nest. Do you have an opening somewhere? You probably have a hole in your soffit.
I wouldn’t leave the garage door open because of the previous rat problem. We had the same issue and the exterminator said to keep the garage doors closed as much as possible. Maybe see if a wildlife removal company could come.
I feel your pain. There is a bird right outside my bedroom window that has the world’s loudest chirp and never stopped once from 4 am to 7 am. I had my white noise turned up to an alarming level and it still sounded like the bird was sharing a pillow with me, it was so loud.

I am laughing so hard at your description. We have one of these and it’s so fucking loud and it must build its nest in the same spot each year with the sole purpose of torturing me.

We have woodpeckers in our area. They like to peck on the metal roof vents to attract mates. Consequently, our roof vents all have duct taped towels over them. It's very attractive. lol
We are year 3 of sparrows nesting in our eaves. I suggest you contact a wildlife and pest removal company, they can locate and move a nest and help figure out where they came in.
