Another vote for Yeti. The plastic is more “hardy” than what I recall from the Contigo. I haven’t noticed a change in taste. We are on the road this morning and I forgot to bring mine so I had to get iced coffee this morning.
I have a yeti (the classic tumbler style) & haven’t noticed off tastes. I’ve had it for over 5yrs I think?
Not sure if you’re looking for something more spill proof though?
I do need something that won’t spill.
This doesn’t spill when I knock it over on the table w the lid closed but I’m not sure how leak proof it’d be tossed in a bag. So, if you’re traveling by car or putting it in the water bottle pouch of a backpack, it’d be fine. But if you’re doing public transportation with a tote bag, it looks like they have a bottle style for hot beverages which is leak proof.
ETA: Mine doesn't leak, but I haven't put it through the most rigorous testing, and I'm sure it would leak if the parts weren't put together properly. There are gaskets around the lid and also as part of the slider, and they're kind of a pain to remove and reattach.
I recommend going to your local thrift store. Last August I found a great travel coffee mug at my local store and have been very pleased with it. It's not my preferred color but other than that no complaints.

Yes! I’ve seen a ton of Yeti there lately and other brands but they are all in great shape.
I’m an outlier and don’t really like my Yetis. I do love all the Simple Modern travel mugs I have, both flip top and straws are totally leak proof and drinks stay hot or cold longer than the Yeti.
I use this Hydroflask - www.escapesports.ca/hydro-flask-wide-mouth-flip-lid-12oz.html I think it might be an older model because I'm having a hard time finding a US link for it. They make (made?) larger sizes, but I love the 12 oz. for my tea. It gets tossed in my work bag and never leaks.
I have the Nespresso mug (,https://www.nespresso.com/us/en/order/accessories/vertuo/nomad-travel-mug-medium-mandarin-orange) No plastic taste, seals well, keeps things warm.
My only annoyance is it's a PITA to take he lid apart so I normally just rinse it super well and then chuck it in the dishwasher and hope for the best. I will say that every time I DO take the time to take it apart, it's been clean and not disgusting at all, but it's really annoying to have to use so much force to take the lid apart.
I’d look into Brumate - they’re genuinely spillproof. I have an XL Toddy but the top is really hard to get off - it’s since been discontinued because of that and they have introduced new Toddy-adjacent designs with easier-to-use lids. I find Brumate to be lighter and thus more pleasant to hold/carry than my Yeti.
Hi! I’m back! The handles on the Brumate and Yeti, will they fit in my car cup holder?
Hmm, mine doesn't exactly, but it genuinely doesnt spill if I toss it in my work bag (which I absolutely do, lol). I usually just set it in between my legs.
I use my stainless steel 16 oz Contigo with auto lock from Target everyday and love it. The colored ones will peel, so I only use the silver. No leaks when closed, even when dropped. Coffee stays hot for a few hours. I don’t need it piping hot all day and I like that hot tea will actually be drinkable if I leave the top unsealed and then stay hot with a tight seal. I also prefer no handle on a travel mug.

Add me to the yeti fan base. It’s not spill proof like the contigo but it’s an amazing mug otherwise. It’s about as close as you can get though for regular use. It also goes in the dishwasher so huge bonus there.
